Since 7.0, we have overhauled the new player experience to make playing SWTOR easier and more enjoyable than ever before. Recently, in Game Update 7.7.1 “Flashpoint Resurgence”, we made several updates to lift the limitations of the Free-to-Play (F2P) experience. Let's start with a quick snapshot of the key differences between F2P and Subscriber accounts (we'll cover Preferred further in the article).

The table below is not a comprehensive list of the benefits Subscribed players will receive but serves as an overview of what is unlocked with our highest account tier. Here are the top 11 key differences between the F2P and Subscriber tiers. 

*F2P accounts can level beyond 60 if they use a Master’s Datacron that is purchased from the Cartel Market

**Discount applies to base price of appearance customizations only; does not apply to species or other unlocks and does not reflect the final price of any bundles containing non-discounted items.

Preferred Accounts

Between F2P and Subscriber tiers, there is a middle tier called Preferred. This status can be obtained 1 of 2 ways: 

• A player has made a purchase of Cartel Coins
• *A player purchased a Subscription or a bundle with a subscription but it then lapsed 

There are a few additional benefits the Preferred status has over the F2P model. Preferred players: 

• Have 12 character slots per server
• Can trade with other players beginning at level 10
• Can send in-game mail containing 1 item
• Subscribers can send items and credits

*If a Subscription lapses, the now Preferred account will continue to have certain benefits: 

• Artifact Authorization - If a player is wearing gear that requires Artifact Authorization, they can continue to use that level of gear so long as they do not unequip it. Should they remove that gear from their character, they will either need to purchase the Artifact Equipment Authorization item or become a Subscriber again to equip the gear.  
• Depending on when their subscription lapsed, a player will retain access to unlocked story content, and the max level of that expansion cycle. 
• Example: If a player's subscription lapsed during the Onslaught expansion, their characters could go up to level 75 and they could play all story up through Onslaught.
• F2P can only reach the current max level by purchasing a Master’s Datacron

Other bonuses 

Security Key

Active players of any account status who connect a Security Key to their account will receive Cartel Coin grants! Players will only receive their Cartel Coin grants when logging in if their last grant was more than 29 days prior. 

Cartel Coin for Subscribers

Different subscriptions grant additional Cartel Coins per month while their sub is active: 

• 30 Days recurring - 500 coins per 30 days
• 90 Days recurring - 550 coins per 30 days
• 180 Days recurring - 600 coins per 30 days
• 60 Days Game Time Card -  525 coins per 30 days. Coins are granted 30 days apart

There may also be opportunities for active subscribers to obtain limited time login rewards throughout the year. Currently, active Subscribers can earn the GDW Weaponcarrier mount if they log in any time between now and October 14th.
