Friends Trial top

What is the Friends of Star Wars: The Old Republic Trial?
The Friends of Star Wars: The Old Republic Trial is an opportunity offered to current, active players that have passed at least one billing cycle, to invite twenty five (25) of their friends that have never played Star Wars: The Old Republic (the “Game”) to participate in a free trial. Friends can play from levels 1-15 with no time limit. Some in-game restrictions apply.
How do I become eligible for the Friends Trial reward?

To earn the exclusive Kurtob Alliance Speeder, you must first refer a friend using one of your 25 friend invites.

The form to invite your friends can be accessed from the My Account >> Friends Trial page on www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com. Simply, login to your SWTOR account, click “My Account” in the upper right hand corner of the window and click “Friends Trial” from the right hand menu. Once on the Friends of Star Wars: The Old Republic Trial page, read the directions and fill out the form as directed. If your friend has been accepted to the program, their name and email address with some characters asterisked out will populate above the form. This indicates that an automated email has been sent to your friend’s email address with your personal message inviting them to play Star Wars: The Old Republic for a seven (7)-day trial.

You will then become eligible for the speeder when at least one of the friend you have referred upgrades to a full account and becomes an active subscriber (pays for a recurring monthly subscription or redeems a Pre-Paid Game Time Code), and passes their 30 days of play time included with the purchase of the Game. Within 72 hours, you will then receive an in-game message with the Kurtob Alliance Speeder in your in-game mail.

This will become active on the referring account and remain active for all characters provided the transactions remain valid. In cases of fraud regarding the referred account the Speeder may be reclaimed.

Are there any rewards for referring a friend to play Star Wars: The Old Republic?

Yes, the in-game reward for referring your friend to Star Wars: The Old Republic is the exclusive Kurtob Alliance Speeder. This is an artifact speeder you can begin using at level 25 which grants you 110% riding speed and only requires speeder piloting rank 1.

You will become eligible for the speeder when at least one of the friends you have referred upgrades to a full account, becomes an active subscriber (pays for a recurring monthly subscription or redeems a Pre-Paid Game Time Code), and passes their 30 days of play time included with the purchase of the Game. Within 72 hours, you will then receive an in-game message with the Kurtob Alliance Speeder in your in-game mail.

This will become active on the referring account and remain active for all characters provided the transactions remain valid. In cases of fraud regarding the referred account the speeder may be reclaimed.

What is the difference between the Friends of Star Wars: The Old Republic Trial and the Free Trial?
The Friends of Star Wars: The Old Republic Trial and Free Trial programs are similar in nature, but participation in the Friends of Star Wars: The Old Republic Trial requires the referral of a current active player who has passed at least one billing cycle. When a current active player refers a new player through the Friends Trial and the referred friends becomes a paying player, the referrer receives an exclusive in-game reward, the Kurtob Alliance Speeder. For more info on the Friend’s Trial, visit www.swtor.com/info/friends. Unlike the Friends Trial, the Free Trial does not require player referral for participation. For more information on the Free Trial, visit www.swtor.com/freetrial.
Is there a time limit to the Friends Trial?

Players participating in the Friends Trial can play from levels 1-15 with no time limit. The trial period expires upon redemption of an official Game Product Registration Code, purchase of a product subscription or redemption of a Game Time Code.

What if I used up all of my invites prior to the launch of the twenty five (25) invite limit increase?

The previous three invites, used or unused, will count toward the new twenty five invite limit. So if you have already used up all three of your previous invites, then you will have twenty two invites left.

How can my friend purchase the Game?

Your friend can visit buy.swtor.com and select their preferred edition of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Or simply visit your local games retailer. For a list of retailers visit buy.swtor.com.

How long does it take to download the Game Client?

Your download time will vary according to the speed of your internet service provider. Download speeds are not constant and vary by location. How can I ensure I am ready to play the Game at launch?

There will be a 48 hour ‘grace period’ for Early Game Access players post launch. Those players who are in Early Game Access will not be able to continue to play the Game after December 22nd, 12:01AM EST without completing the following required steps:

  • Create a SWTOR account if you have not created one
  • Fill out your contact information
  • Set up minimum 3 - maximum 5 security questions to protect your SWTOR account
  • Redeem an official Game Product Registration Code (This is different from your Pre-Order Code. Your Product Registration Code is the code tied to the official Game.)
  • Sign up for a recurring subscription or enter a Pre-Paid Game Time Code.
Is there a ‘grace period’ post launch where I can continue to play without having entered an official Game Product Registration Code?

Yes. Everyone who pre-ordered and is in the Early Game Access program has forty-eight (48) hours from launch in which to enter their official Game Product Registration Code, which will be found inside the physical Standard and Collector's Editions of the game; for digital editions of the game from Origin.com, the Product Registration Code will have been emailed to you. After December 22nd 12:01AM EST, you will be required to have a valid payment method and a Product Registration Code redeemed at your account to continue to play. We strongly recommend that you redeem your Product Registration Code as soon as you are able to do so (rather than waiting until the last minute) to ensure a seamless entry into the Game, a smooth experience on the account website and to collect any special gifts and items you may be entitled to based on the version of the Game you purchased.

I pre-ordered the Game but have not yet redeemed my Pre-Order Code on StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com. Can I still redeem my Pre-Order Code?

Yes. You can still redeem your Pre-Order Code at The Old Republic Code Redemption Center through December 31, 2012. While you will no longer be able to participate in Early Game Access, you will be able to access and use your Pre-Order Color Stone during Early Game Access. To get your Color Stone, visit a mailbox in-game and pick up your in-game mail.

Star Wars: The Old Republic launched in both North America and Europe on December 20th.

How many launch editions of Star Wars: The Old Republic can I purchase?

The number of copies of the Game that you will be allowed to purchase at launch will be determined by each individual retailer. For purchases made through Origin.com, each EA/Origin account is permitted to purchase up to ten physical copies of Star Wars: The Old Republic.

At this time only consumers located in the US can order physical copies of Star Wars: The Old Republic from Origin.com.

In addition, each account is permitted to purchase up to three digital download copies of the Game.

Can I purchase the Game for other people?

Yes; however, only one official Game Product Registration Code can be applied per Star Wars: The Old Republic account. You cannot have multiple Product Registration Codes applied to a single account.

Will I be able to order Star Wars: The Old Republic through other third party digital download sources?

Digital copies of Star Wars: The Old Republic are available exclusively through Origin.com.

Where can I purchase the official Game?

To find a list of retailers in your country, visit buy.swtor.com and select your preferred edition for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Then click “See all retailers” to see a list of retailers. You may also purchase Star Wars: The Old Republic from Origin.com (EA’s online web store). Check with your preferred video game retailer to see if they are offering Star Wars: The Old Republic. Please be careful when purchasing Star Wars: The Old Republic, and only purchase from trusted retailers or Origin.com.

I am new to Star Wars: The Old Republic. How do I learn more about the playing the Game?

If you are new to The Old Republic, here are a few resources to help you get started:

From Game installation to navigating your way around the Game, the Online Game Manual is a great resource for getting an overview of the key Game systems and features in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

To help ease you into the Star Wars™ universe, we’ve published a New Player Guide that will walk you through the steps of creating your character, picking your server and guiding you through the basics of the Game.

You can also purchase the official Star Wars: The Old Republic Explorer’s Guide published by Prima at participating retailers.

How do I join my guild once I’m in the Game?

Once you have created a character on the server that your guild has been assigned to, you will automatically receive an invite to join that guild. If you do not accept this invite, every character that you create on that server will be asked to join that guild until you accept.

I created / joined a guild during the Pre-Launch Guild Program. How do I know what server to create my guild on?

Guilds that were created during the Pre-Launch Guild Program which met the requirements for import into the Game will be assigned to servers in time for Early Game Access. Once Early Game Access begins, the first character you create on the assigned server will be automatically invited to join your guild. You can choose to accept or decline the invite. If declined, you will be invited again each time you create a character on that server, unless you select the option to ignore future invites. Visit the Guilds FAQ for more details.

May I select any server I want, regardless of my location and language?

You may select any server that is currently available for players. Keep in mind, however, that your connection quality may be affected by selecting a server that is not located within your region.

This is why we state that the Game is intended for play only within North America and Europe because this is where the servers are located to ensure the best connection quality.

Why do European servers have language designations?

The language designation indicates the primary language, not the only language, that is likely to be used by the community playing on that server.

If I choose to play on an English language server, does that mean I have to play the game in English as well?

No. Since you can change the language from your game launcher, you may play the game in English, French, or German regardless of the server that you play on.

In what languages is Star Wars: The Old Republic available?

Star Wars: The Old Republic is available in English, French, and German. You can change the language displayed by clicking the small icon on the lower-left of the launcher, and then selecting the language from a drop-down menu. This will change the language both in the launcher and in the Game. If you decide to switch later to a language other than the one you originally installed, it will require additional download time.

Does The Old Republic offer different server types that emphasize different styles of game play?

Yes. The Old Republic will offer different server types that emphasize the following styles of game play:

Player-vs–Environment (PvE)

On Player-vs-Environment servers, you have the option to role-play as your character, and player-vs-player fights must be agreed to by both sides or conducted in PvP-designated areas.

On these servers, players from the opposing faction can attack you at almost any time and almost any place.

Role-Playing, Player-vs–Environment (RP)

Asia Pacific Launch top

What happens if my Legacy name is already taken on my selected Asia Pacific server?

If your Legacy name is already taken on the selected Asia Pacific server, you will be prompted to choose a new Legacy name when you log into the server.

Do my transferred characters count towards Legacy Unlocks*?

Yes, all Legacy Unlocks that your characters have earned will be automatically applied to your new Legacy on your selected Asia Pacific server. These include Species, Class, Companion and Legacy Level based unlocks.

How does the Legacy system work for Asia Pacific character transfers?

The Legacy system will work differently depending on whether or not you have already unlocked your Legacy on an Asia Pacific server by the time the character transfer takes place.

If you have played a character on an Asia Pacific server to the point where you have unlocked your Legacy and chosen your Legacy name, then all characters created on or imported to your selected Asia Pacific server will use that Legacy name.

If you have not played a character on an Asia Pacific server to the point where your Legacy is unlocked, but are importing characters who have unlocked their Legacy, you will be prompted to choose your Legacy name when you first log in to your selected Asia Pacific server after your characters have been transferred. The name you choose will then be applied to all characters on your selected Asia Pacific server.

If you have not unlocked your Legacy on your selected Asia Pacific server, or on any of the characters you wish to transfer, then your Legacy will be unlocked through normal gameplay (Completion of Chapter 1 on any character) on your selected Asia Pacific server.

In order to determine your Legacy XP on your selected Asia Pacific server, we will consider the Legacy XP Level of all characters you wish to transfer, as well as the Legacy XP already present on the Asia Pacific server (if any), and apply the highest Legacy XP value found among all your characters to your account on your selected Asia Pacific server.

For example, a player has three characters from different North American or European servers that they want to transfer to one of the Asia Pacific Servers. The first character has a Legacy Level of 5, the second is from a different server and has Legacy Level 7, and the third is from another server and has Legacy level 12. The highest Legacy Level here is Level 12. If you already have a Legacy Level greater than 12 on an Asia Pacific server, it will remain unchanged. If that’s not the case, when all of these characters are transferred to the new Asia Pacific server, the Legacy Level will be set to Legacy Level 12 which matches the highest Legacy Level achieved by one of your characters.

How will I know when my character transfer requests have been processed?

You will be notified via email when your character transfer requests have been processed. The “Asia Pacific Transfers” page will also be updated at time. To confirm your transfer requests were successful, log into the Game and select your requested destination servers to check the status of the transfers.

Please note that characters that have been transferred to a new server will be assigned temporary names if the original names were not available on their new server. If your character has been assigned a temporary name, you will be prompted to choose a new character name upon log in. Unsuccessfully transferred characters will remain on their original server, unchanged. If you encounter any problems with your character transfer requests, please contact Customer Service.

What will happen to the characters I have requested transfers for during the character transfer process?

Character transfers will begin processing on April 24, 2012, 8:00PM EST, 10:00PM NZST, 6:00PM HKT, 6:00PM SGT. At some point during the subsequent 7 days, there will be a period of time of up to 3 hours where we will begin processing all requested character transfers associated with your account. You will be unable to play any characters that are on servers involving your character transfer requests during this time. If you are logged into one of these servers, you will be automatically logged off that server until the transfer is complete. If you are unable to log into any of these servers past the 3-hour window, please contact Customer Service.

How can I protect my Star Wars: The Old Republic account?

You can download The Old Republic Mobile Security Key for free from Apple’s iTunes Store or Android Marketplace by visiting our Security Key Page.

Physical security keys are not available for purchase at this time.

For more information on how to protect your account, see “Protecting Your Account” FAQs.

What happens if my character name is already taken on my desired destination Asia Pacific server?

If your character name is already taken on the destination server, your character will be transferred and assigned a temporary name. You will be prompted to choose a new name for the character when you log in to the new server.

Are there any other restrictions with the character transfer system?

If you choose to move your character to a new Asia Pacific server, please be aware of the following:

  • If your character name is already taken on the Asia Pacific server, your character will be transferred and assigned a temporary name, but you will be prompted to choose a new name for the character when you log into the Asia Pacific server.
  • You cannot exceed 8 characters (including transferred and non-transferred characters) on any given destination server.
  • If you have unlocked a Legacy name on the Asia Pacific server, any characters transferred to that server will use the Asia Pacific server's Legacy name.
  • If you have not unlocked a Legacy name on the Asia Pacific server and the character is eligible for a Legacy unlock by completing Chapter One of their class stories, you will be prompted to choose a Legacy name when you log into the Asia Pacific server.
  • You may be able to choose the same Legacy name if it is available on the Asia Pacificserver. However, if your Legacy name is taken on the Asia Pacific server, you will be prompted to select a new Legacy name.
  • The character will no longer be a part of its guild - Guilds and guild membership will not be transferred to your new server. You will need to create or join a new guild on your new server.
  • Your Friends and Ignore list will be reset – These lists are server specific, so you will need to repopulate your list with players from your new server.

Before you transfer your character, it is important to ensure the following:

  • The character has no items listed on the Galactic Trade Network (auction house) – active Galactic Trade Network listings will not be transferred to your new server.

Protecting Your Account top

How is my account protected from unauthorized access?

There are a number of different ways we try to protect your account from unverified access. While you have your password, we also ask that you answer between three and five security questions. You also have the option of using a security key, which will generate a temporary passcode that you can enter when you first open your game launcher.

How do I set my security questions?

You can set your security questions and their answers at any time by logging into your account, clicking the “My Account” button and then selecting the “Security Questions” option from the right-hand sidebar.

What are security questions?

Security questions are specific questions that are asked when you wish to reset your password, or are logging into your account from a different computer. These questions pertain to facts about yourself, and are meant to allow for different answers from one user to the next.

What is the difference between the Physical and Mobile Security Keys?

The physical security key is a device that fits easily onto a key ring, and generates authentication passcodes. Each passcode is a one-time use code that will have to be entered along with your account password every time you log into your account (via the game client or website), provided that you have the physical security key registered to your account.

The mobile security key is a free downloadable app for iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) and will soon be available for both Android and BlackBerry devices. This app will generate a one-time use code that will have to be entered along with your account password every time you log into your account (via the game client or website), provided that you have the mobile security key registered to your account.

To learn more, visit our Security Key page.

How many security questions do I have to answer?

You are only required to answer three security questions. However, to increase your security we suggest that you answer all five questions. We highly recommend that you make a note of your security question answers. If you forget your answers, you may become unable to access your account, and will be required to call Customer Service to reset your questions and answers.
