I may have finally Got SOV figured

First off, I learned you really need every slot, every barrel, hilt, armoring, mod, enhancement at 306. Simply having an average ilevel of 306 won’t cut it.

Second, kudos to the person who suggested using heroic moment on the Snipers in the wave 2 adds. That did the trick.

We’ll see if the strategy holds on my next alt. But it worked on my smuggler gunslinger 🙂

Congratz for persevering and figuring it out. 👍 🎆🎈

As you can see, it's not "impossible", just harder than others. But of course, now the posters who are having trouble, will call you "elite". 🙂

Well, I still tend to agree with their complaints… it shouldn’t have to be that hard 😉

It remains unable to complete with the gear the game gives me for previous content of Story Mode play. That it requires 306 gear is the problem. I don't have 306 gear. I won't get 306 gear because it's expensive requiring many hours of play to get the funds which I don't have the time nor inclination to invest, and I shouldn't need to.

I play a Story Arc then move on to my next character and finish its Story Arc, move on to the next, etc. Eventually I cycle back to continue the Story Arc of an earlier character. Whatever character I'm playing it could take a real world week to finish a Story Arc because I don't play every day. I might just do one chapter for an hour or so and not get back to the Story until three days later. I am not playing the game wrong. During all this time I have been able to complete all Stories with the gear the game gave me from the immediate earlier content. From Class Story I can do Ilum. From Ilum I can do Makeb/Revan. (I sometimes skip Makeb.) From Revan I can do Fallen Empire. From Fallen Empire I can do Eternal Throne. From Eternal Throne I can do Nathema. From Nathema I can do Onslaught. From Onslaught I can do Oblivion. However, from Oblivion I cannot do Vengeance.

Heroic moment suggestion was probably me, I've been throwing it out there. You're welcome! It's nice to know the suggestion helped someone :). I was stuck on my operative until I remembered this skill.

I was able to complete the final boss on my assassin in 230 gear

It took a few tries and I was not at all enjoying myself during those tries, but it was doable

In the end, heroic moment + presence stim + liberal use of DCD with comp on heals got me over the edge.

Still needs to be tuned down in story mode. Vet/Master mode is there for those who want it.

Honestly I got to wonder what was up with that FP. All the others are more sensible. SotE is back to being sensible. What happened here?

My thought was maybe a different level designer did SoV then did the others.

The idea was good in theory, biggest issue being everyones different skill levels, gear ratings and a few bugs. Plus some classes seem to have an easier time then others. I walked through it pre and post patch on characters until I took my operative through, then the whole thing was a struggle.

I imagine they could just fix this by adding the robo-companion

It would probably just be easier to tune down the DPS of the final boss encounter (sharpshooters in particular)

These are likely just configuration values, it shouldn't take a designer more than a few minutes to do.

The fact that they've tried and failed to correct this once already suggests to me we got someone trying to throw their opinion around as to "appropriately" difficult content. (much like we see on these forums)

You could be right. I’m no computer specialist. I was just thinking in terms of how SoR added it to make group flash points soloable

Speaking of the OG Jesus droid, what happened to it? I only returned recently so havent kept up to date with changes. The last time we could use the Jesus droid was Rishi FP.

Now that you mention it, it’s not available in post SOR content

I'm surprised to see many players claiming that level 306 gear is required to complete SoV, but maybe things have changed since I played it for the last time, which was just after patch 6.2a.

Back then I played it with 3 DPS toons equipped with gear in the level range 268-274. It was always tedious and the first time was very hard (it was before 6.2a with that useless level 1 companion). Took me more than two hours, died many times, but in the end I finished it. I'm a casual player, never played end game content, but I followed some guides to optimize my utiliities, to optimize the way I use my abilities (opening burst + rotation) and I organised my shortcut bars accordingly. I'm convinced this is key to pass through this FP, actually more important than your gear level. You also have to pay attention to the adds, kill the healers first, use interrupts, use your heroic instant at the right time, use stims... so it's definitely much more challenging that any other story-level game content, but it is doable - or at least it was (I still have to try it post 6.3). Did I enjoy it? No, and that's why I haven't given it a try for several months.

I've only played the solo version and that was very recently too so I am not familiar with the unnerfed version of SOV that came before. I also recently got to 306 and am now augmenting with simple 228s which I can craft at will.

You guys make me want to give it a try with my 286 and 280 on other servers...

Anyway what has been decisive for me is TACTICALS. A tactical is pretty much a standalone set bonus, and way stronger than the shabby set bonus suits we got prior to 6.0. Check out Swtorista's excellent TACTICALS guide.

You can have a tactical as soon as you hit level 75 even with otherwise crappy gear (wish I had known my way around them when I did hit 75!) and by simply logging in for 30 days you are rewarded with enough tech fragments to buy one...

Ideally you'll need two : an AOE tactical (I'd recommend that first) and then a single-target tactical. You can swap between fights (not during fights) ans you can even hotkey them on your action bar.

So effective that my lvl 20 comp died during the final boss on add wave 2 and I was able to beat the boss without my comp...

Agree.

And yes, you definitely need to take care of those sharpshooters first. Stun one, focus the other, order your comp to focus your target as well. These guys are glass cannons! Then proceed to the other. Done. Then focus on the medics and end with the big guys.

I'd like to remind players out there that not only bounty hunters can toss stun grenades in an oh sh*t moment... hint hint nudge nudge ;)

No one said it is "impossible." I have successfully run it 4 times since the latest patch. I have successfully run it 10 plus times prior. It is hands down the most difficult Story / Solo Mode Flashpoint - even after the patch, largely b/c of Rass Ordo and his AI, or lack thereof. (Is that better?) :rak_03:

Actually, lots of people said it was impossible - granted, that meant "impossible for them", but none the less .... 🙄

For those that are still unable to complete the Story mode, I'd ask "what's your hurry"? Do other things until you get geared enough, or SoV gets nerfed by later content, or whatever. 🙂

No, they did not. If you're going to quote people at least grant them the courtesy of actually quoting them. Regardless, let's just agree to disagree.

Personally, I think players playing a story driven MMORPG should be able to complete the story w/o difficulty or grinding gear, particularly since Secrets of the Enclave is a walk in the park compared to Spirit of Vengeance. As noted by a different poster, there clearly is a disconnect and wild variation swings in design philosophy, one which is inexplicable in my mind.

Just to make something clear. My point in starting this thread is not to say “it’s easy, anybody can do it!” Prior to patch 6.3, it was extremely tedious and frustrating. Even after the patch, the final boss fight was difficult when your companion bugs.

Yes, I have completed this with lower ilevel gear. But it wasn’t fun… and fun is the point of playing.

People shouldn’t have to grind level 306 gear to clear a Solo-Story. But, that was pretty much the advice given when people complained.

Since clearing this is necessary for story advancement, BW needs to find a way that prevents this from turning the game into a “grind for gear” bottleneck.

I still don't have 306 gear --

I did it with 270 something ( oops forgot, one of my toons is 280 now, but wasn't then ) ALL earned by just playing regular stuff

It was hard, it was awful -- I died a lot .. but I did it

The secret I learned -- do not do more than one run through in one day; yes I know a lot of you have dozens of alts;

it gets very frustrating and you get mentally and physically tired -- take it easy and slow ( it really does work)

It will take you awhile, but what are we in the game for? to rush through content? (SoV took days for me to do -- but I completed it with out 306 gear)

Folks without 306 gear, don't get disheartened

306 mods cost nothing if you use your tech fragments for the modificitions you need. Of course if you are 294 the next mods you will get it 296 and so on. I have 3 characters in 306 gear and I don't play that much due to school and work.

You can also save your gear for alts to give them a boost. But having to grind to advance is a bad idea in game design

It's not needed post SoR. All SoR and earlier fps were group design, so they put the bot into the story fps for storymode rather then changing the difficulty of these. All post SoR fps were created with an easier mode from the get go so no bot was needed for them.

Tried that. It was a million credits and 3,000 tech fragments for a guarantee for one item. I went over to the random guy. Got a 276 upgraded to a 278 but nothing higher while tech fragments were being wasted away at 375 a try. I suppose I should spend two hours doing nothing but buying random?

The way it works is, you equip the gear to raise your gear level, then buy a new item equip and repeat. Once in a great while you get lucky but this is how I had to do it. Not a great system
