There are still planty of mercs in solo ranked. Not as many as throughout 5.0 when they were overpowered, but they're still well represented. As long as they have net, they'll always be able to make an impact. Their dcds are still good. The good mercs are still very effective, but definitely not unbalanced at all.

For an all dps solo ranked game, you can't go wrong with merc because of net.

You're correct that it's relatively easy to counter a merc's dcds, but you have to be careful about getting too cute with it. For example, if you resolve to never hit into shield or kolto, a good merc will use those opportunities to create space, and then they'll keep getting shield again. Often you have to hit through them just so that your team stays on them and they can't get away as easily. It's all situational of course though.

Well yeah. Net is probably the single most impactful ability in the game. At best it gets you a kill way faster than would otherwise be possible. At worst it forces someone to use their breaker way earlier than they otherwise would, leaving them vulnerable next time they are stunned (technically you can net the wrong target that no one is even attacking, but let's leave that aside for now lol). And over the course of a long round, mercs can get multiple nets, which can be crucial in 2v2s or even 2v3s. If you removed it from mercs with no compensation, there would be no reason to pick one over a similarly skilled sorc or sniper (if you got to choose).

But that's all a moot point, because they do have net.
