Game freezes from time to time, only alt-tab helps!

Hello everybody!

I have an issue with my game. When I'm on fleet every few minutes the game freezes and I can no longer move or do anything. Still my cursor can be moved freely but I can't interact with anything but all music effects continue, I can hear ppl using skills and so on.

All I can do is to alt+tab out of the game and come back to it. In that case the UI reloads and the game is playable again.

The issue is the problem repeats after a few minutes (mo often on crowded places) and constantly alt-tabing and UI reloading is annoying as hell.

I have upgraded my PC recently so there should not be an issue with it, I have 250 MB fiber so connection should not be an issue. All my drivers are up-to-date and I really have no problems in other games :(

I have re-downloaded the game a few times now, installed it via Steam client (used the original client before) and still the problem persists.

Any advice would be really appreciated!

It happens mostly on the fleet but happened a few times outside too, I have a RTX3080, hard to believe it would struggle with any settings ;D but valid point. I will go down with details and see if that fixes anything :)

It could be overheating, or driver conflicts.

Make sure you have the latest drivers for all your hardware - audio, chipset, etc. (not just the graphics)

(Given the symptoms, driver conflicts/glitches seems most likely.)

Make sure the CPU cooler is free of excess dust, the fan(s) is working, and it's properly seated. If possible (requires some disassembly) even check that the heatsink compound is properly applied, and you didn't do something like leaving the plastic cover on the heatsink's bottom. (It's been done. 🙂 )

You can use some sort of monitoring software to check the temps before digging deeper.

All possible drivers are all up to date ;)

The computer is dust free and for sure is not overheating (I have MSI afterburner turned on so can see what is going on and temps are well below max temp)

The card is running at 30 to 40% of max load so it should not be an issue, I have tested whole setup in benchmarks with 100% load and survived just fine with no errors.

I seriously checked everything I could and have no idea what is wrong. I'm hoping that maybe someone else had similar issue and can help me ;)

Well, this may be one of those things that requires 'hands on' diagnoses. It could also be a driver problem, but there's no new driver yet. Or it could be a Windows issue that disappears after an update. 😏

Is it just that the mouse (cursor) stops working or is it the keyboard as well?

Anyway, as a sort of 'out there' idea - try plugging the mouse and/or keyboard into a different USB port**. For example, if they are plugged into ports at the rear, try plugging them (temporarily) into the front. It could be that you have a bad USB port, or a loose connection.

Or ... sudden thought ... check that there's no conflicts with other functions or background tasks that is grabbing some keystroke and looking for input.

** the USB ports are usually in 'pairs', so just moving the mouse from an 'upper' port to the one below (or above) it, may still be the same basic "port". Generally, the front USB ports are separate from the rear ports (hardware-wise).
