Dumb question

Hello all.

I just returned to SWTOr after watching a number of YouTube vids on the game play. I have noticed though that on some vids I have seen that some players are starting out at 1st level with some really cool armor and weapons. I am seeing that certain players are not starting out with the standard armor and weapon that is issued t you at the start of your career. How do I get the power armor to start off, and the high modified gear? I am assuming that you can do it during character creation but I didn't notice it. How that makes sense as I would love to start a commando without the standard gear. Let me know any advice you can give.

Those people are usually additional characters (alts) that someone is taking through the game.

For example, I've been playing for years and I have lots of armor sets and weapons unlocked in collections and/or in my legacy storage. If I start a new character, the first thing I do after the opening cut scene is to travel to my stronghold and bling up the character. 🙂

As a new player, of course, you don't have the credits to afford much, but you can buy and equip armor from the Cartel Market with real money.

As JQ said, you can spend some money at the Cartel Market if you really want a cool set. Most cartel market sets can be equipped right away, and you have something called an Appearance Designer when you open up the character tab.

Each Appearance Designer slot lets you create an outfit you like, so even if you're wearing the armor you get from the game for stats, your character will still look like whatever you put on in Appearance Designer. For an awesome commando, for example, you may want to check out the Recon Trooper, Havoc Squad or Fieldtech Gunner.

You can also purchase some commando-style sets for relatively cheap off the GTN (auction house).

For example, a complete set of Keeper of Iokath (https://torf.mmo-fashion.com/keeper-of-iokath/) only costs about 1.5-2.5 million.

Another of my favorites for Commandos is the Resolute Protector (https://torf.mmo-fashion.com/resolute-protector/), which is a bronze set so it usually only costs 300,000 or 400,000.

Outfit Designer. Appearance Designer is the kiosk where you can change your character's face, body, hair style and colour, and even species.
