doserguy
Hello Community, I bought a new laptop for studies and work. Now, I’m coming back to SWTOR. How cool will SWTOR run in a Samsung Book Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7, Windows 11 Home, 8GB, 512GB SSD, Intel Iris Xe?
SteveTheCynic
It's a shared-memory configuration (the graphics "card" (Intel Iris thing) uses main system memory), which will hurt performance somewhat(0), and it's likely to run *hot* rather than cool, so be prepared to: * never use it on a soft surface or it will overheat(1) * be deafened by the fans while you're playing The Amazon listings for various models of Samsung Book with that CPU all describe its intended use as "business" (i.e. not gaming) so don't expect great things from it, although I'd expect it to do a reasonable job. (0) In a shared-memory configuration, the CPU and the graphics card end up fighting for access to the memory, which reduces performance of both. In particular, when the graphics card from memory to produce the display signal, those accesses cannot be overridden by the CPU or the GPU part of the card, or you'll get display glitches. (1) The holes where air gets *in* to a laptop before it moves around absorbing heat from components and then being blown out the sides or rear by the fans, well those inward holes are on the bottom, and will be obstructed if you use the machine on a soft surface. That means that the cooling system will not do its job properly and the machine will overheat.
