Do you get assists or credit for repairing teammates?

I am just starting to try GSF and want to run support ships for the most part (Imperium and Legion) but was wondering if you get assists (or credit) for using repair drones.

There are medals for repairing damage, but you have to score damage on an enemy to get an assist.

Nope. You have lasers for a reason. Your job is never only healing in this game mode. Healing is good (especially if you can also provide ammo) but a support ship should still be doing things like trying to peel for allies or just generally adding to your team's damage wherever possible.

Find the red ships that get close to you. Shoot the red ships that get close to you or teammates near you. Or too close to your repair drone, even.

Congrats, you're playing support correctly now.

In the post-match scoreboard, you won't immediately see how many heals you did, but there is a tab near the top of the board that allows you to look at detailed stats for how many points you healed. So yes, you do get medals for healing, based on how many points you healed for. There is also a legacy title associated with being a GSF healer: "The Grease-Monkey Lizard" (you must earn top heals in 250 matches).

Equipping your healer ship with Proton Torpedoes is another good way to help being a support ship, so that you can hang back and provide long-range supporting fire to enemies chasing your teammates. You may not necessarily land a hit, but forcing them to use an engine-break could save your teammate's life.
