Team ranked quests system must be reworked and returned back to what we had in the past. It is obvious when we compare what we had before and what we have now -

Seasons 9-11: queue was full of active players who enjoyed playing. Someone did it for material rewards, someone wanted to get pvp tokens, someone wanted to get rating. Everyone was happy, content was alive, numerous players were subscribing to participate in it.

Seasons 12-14: since team ranked is in a sleeping state, and most of the time there are no teams in queue, wintraders are easily abusing this and queuing during prime time and wintrading within their guilds (e.g. https://imgur.com/3Rx3wp8 ). Moreover, players are also seeing bots farming each other for mats which is totally bad. During seasons 9-10 bots and wintraders didn't stood a chance since legit teams, mat farmers, decent and top teams were always queuing and farming those bots/wintraders without giving them a chance to easily get wins as well as reporting them to pvpReports@swtor.com. But now wintraders and bot users are feeling much better and freely. No one reporting them because no one sees them, they queuing ALONE, during prime time and just doing their dirty business without any witnesses...

Current "WIN ONLY" quest system disincentivizes and destroys interest for most of the players in swtor. Game dies without proper incentives and rewards which can be afforded by spending adequate amount of time. For example, Destiny 2 has dungeons on maximum difficulty, quite hard. But there, every week, 1 random dungeon is randomly selected for this difficulty and everyone farms it all week for rare reagents and unique armor, which by any other means can be farmed ten times longer. And so people in order to farm what they want are sitting in it during whole week. Only because of farming materials and armor, otherwise it would not be needed. But again, this is the case everywhere. In all MMO if certain types of content has no rewards or demands extremely hard (inadequate) conditions to follow (e.g. winning a pvp match with bad team against top players), most of players are just ignoring such content. It's the truth everyone knows in any mmo game...

SO lets compare both season 9-10 quests and current quests:

Seasons 9-10:

1.Wintraders had a hard time, they were farmed by everyone

2.Bot users had a hard time, they were farmed and reported by everyone

3.Queue was alive, people could queue whenever they want without organizing any events

4.All types of teams were participating: mat farmers, decent teams, learning teams, top teams. Which shows that the game was competitive, and everyone was happy.

Now lets compare same criteria with current system:

1.Wintraders are feeling much better now because they can freely wintrade during prime time without being hunted or spoted

2.Bot users are feeling much better now because they can freely do their dirty business without being spotted/reported or farmed by legit teams

3.Queue is almost dead, we can see pops only when certain players organizing so called "kickballs" or "events".

4. There are only few types of teams left: mat farmers, top teams sniping (hunting) mat farmers and wintraders.

In conclusion, Team ranked is dead whereas it was alive with previous quest system, people unsubscribing from the game due to lack of pvp content, players have no real incentives in playing team ranked except for wintraders who farm mats by performing contracted matches....Please return back to what we had in seasons 9-10. If certain rewards demands spending inadequate amount of time or huge efforts - players will just ignore content providing such rewards.

Indeed, dev's policy regarding reward system causes questions. Skill cap is too high in ranked, there are mostly no "decent teams" in queue. Either matfarmers, wintraders or top players. With this making "win only" quests is same as put devs in conditions where in order to get their month salary they must win a hand-to-hand combat against Muay Thai world champions. Note! They must win only against world champions, not just participate :D I bet under such condition they would try to cheat too. E.g. pay few champions to lose on purpose in round 1 :D:D

Without joking now, current system is bad....queue is almost dead 24/7, in pvp discords as OP said few guilds are often caught wintrading and cheating to get mats, legit teams have little chances to get any pops....this is the worst ranked system we ever had in this game. Definitely it has to go and we should return old quests.

It is important to notince that same thing applies to unranked. The current win system often punishes decent players who are losing too often because of premades in enemy team which are stomping everything they see and winning the match easily. However, in unranked it doesn't feel as bad as in ranked because sooner or later solo players are getting pops against non-premade teams and win their matches (at least in unranked much more players are engaged which results in variety of matches with different players).

Would the system work if there was more players? And if there was more players why not let pvp be 100% F2P it might bring a lot of people to the game and give paying players a chance to do what they need to do? Just an idea

It's not about player's quantity. Same players who enjoyed playing team ranked now switched to either solo ranked or unranked. Even if swtor had same amount of players as wow, no one would still be playing team ranked. All because current quest system is too hard to be completed. New players don't want to learn to play while top players stomping them, and the only way to incentivize players to engage into it is providing a decent and adequate quest system which would reward players for adequate number of defeats. If system requries new players to win only in order to get quests done then players will just ignore it because they can't win at first stages of learning. Meanwhile they don't want to spend their time for an activity which doesn't grant any rewards.

What they should do is bring back paid passes. Free F2P opens up other issues like people wintrading on F2P for friends on paid accounts. If a f2p account is caught and banned they can just start another.

And yes, we do need more players. But the issue is Bioware keeps driving away “paying” players with their stupid ideas and decisions. Then when it’s proven how stupid the idea was, they still refuse to reverse it. They say they are waiting for analytics and will change things if needed. But we know they never do and it’s just another “line” they use to deflect blame. It’s been 10 months since the win only requirement and it’s failed. Time for them to adjust it? Nope, that would mean admitting they were wrong. Better to leave it as is and make pvp worse over all.

The win only requirement hasn’t improved games in regs. I can’t comment on ranked as I’m not playing it enough to comment. People still prefer to death match in reg pvp instead of trying to win. So the win only requirement has failed to encourage people to play to win. All it’s done is make new or less skilled players not want to pvp at all.

Which is why Bioware added GS pvp PO’s to get more people back into pvp. Now if only they would remove the win only requirement for missions and up the rewards for ALL pvp, then we’d have more numbers in pvp again than just people doing their 1 daily GS pvp PO and then they stop queueing,

  • 2 weeks later...
We need changes for team ranked quest, more incentives to play ranked and running objectives in unranked. But instead of this we get useless combat style system for story content which was completed by everyone dozens of times

More rewards for playing pvp to gear up instead of needing to go play pve flash points or OPs would help.

Even now where we have a new expansion announced, you still can’t get most of the BiS gear for pvp unless you go to MM operations. It even seems like Kai Zykken lotto has reduced his good drops since 6.3.

I would have hoped they’d learnt their lesson with 6.0 and 7.0 returns a dedicated to way to gear up BiS for pvp in actual pvp content.

They could also help lowbie pvp participation by adding tech frags as a drops for winning and increasing the amount you can collect so you can buy your entry lvl set as soon as you hit max lvl, like we could with pvp comms.

I agree with the main idea. In fact, some people unsub for the lack of content and also the feeling of being cheated. Wintrading has been a huge issue, and they are not stopping it at all, they encorauge wintrading now, since there are literally no actions taken for the longest time I have seen. Its really sad the state of it. You pay to receive content/support. And talking specifically about support, which includes reports, is just not working.

When you see people cheating and playing like nothing for a year straight, you feel like you are in the wrong game.

This would help a ton.
