Question about the Narrative.

Hey all, just a quick question(s). I'm going through the whole story of KotFE for the first time and just finished "Visions in the Dark." In KotFE it seems like the story is more set up for playing Force-Using classes, and I'm playing a Bounty Hunter. It feels a little odd doing all this Force stuff on my non-force using Mando and was just curious, is this how the story is going to be until I reach the end of the narrative or does it go back to more, "normal" after I finish KotFE and KotET? I have several max lvl characters, and I've started my Jugg on KotFE but hadn't reached that far, will it just feel iike a better story on my Jugg? Main question I guess is that after KotFE/ET is over, does it still seems like a force-user driven story or does it open back up to tech classes as well? Appreciate any input

It's a three-part thing.

Yes, it goes back to 'normal' after the Knights duology ends. At the moment, all of the 'Force stuff' isn't actually your character, it's The Emperor/Valkorian using you as a medium/power source and they're the one doing the actual 'Force stuff'.* Sadly, the Force-user bias of the Knights Duology is one of the things that hurt it. The explanation was that it was meant to 'return to the kind of Star Wars story players wanted' - i.e., a Force user leading a Rebellion against an evil Empire, apparently - except it ended up, as you point out, offending and alienating Tech class players and those who wanted the Republic/Sith Empire storyline to return to the focus.

*We find out in the final chapter of Eternal Throne that he's basically been trying to... for lack of a better word, 'adapt' the player-character's body to the Force, especially if it's a tech class, because his plan since Fallen Empire Chapter I turns out to have been use the player-character as their next host body similar to what was seen in the Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior stories and on Ziost.

Ironically, according to some things I've heard, there's actually artifact sound bites in the game that indicate it could have been worse; there's supposedly traces of dialogue and random comments that make it sound like the events of Knights were supposed to make the Tech classes able to use the Force just like the Jedi and Sith. Whether that would have been temporary or permanent, I don't know.

While Knights is geared more towards Force-users (and Knights and Warriors especially), the storyline does start to move back towards a class/Origin-neutrality with Onslaught and later expansions. Your Mandalorian Beroya will be especially pleased because of the part played by Dar'manda on Mek-Sha and the increase of focus on the Mandalorian clans and what's happening to them with no common enemy in the Eternal Empire and discontent growing with Shae Viszla's leadership and the reforms she is trying to make.**

**In more 'modern' terms, circa 40's-30's BBY, Shae is wanting to maintain the current, more-Haat Mando'ade/True Mandalorian stance of the Mandalorians being warriors protecting the weak and fighting for justice, which is bringing her into conflict with those who, like the later Kyr'stad/Death Watch, want to see a return to the Mandalorians as conquerers. Extremely ironic considering that Shae's own clan-descendants are the ones leading Kry'stad by the time of the Clone Wars, I know...

Wow, thank you for the response, I appreciate it. I'm glad it's going back to more "normal." I will admit, so far I am enjoying the Knights stuff, but yes, it definitely feels more geared towards Jedi/Sith and I definitely feel alienated playing my BH. I was contemplating shelving him for now and focusing more on my Warrior, but I'll keep on going.

May not be the place to discuss it, but I'm very excited for the combat style changes coming in the next expansion, the only thing I would've done differently is that there is no sword/staff options for tech characters. There is a image of the Mando on the loading screen with that spear and I did see they put a Beskar Spear in the shop, but BH's can't use any of them. I know a lot of people play their Warrior/Assassin's as Mando's. I don't think it could've been too hard depending on the class. My BH is PT, and I'm pretty sure I only use my pistol for the default blaster fire, everything else is different weapons so how hard would it be to give him a vibrosword or spear, it's basically just a stat stick. I know this isn't the thread for it, but no sense in making another thread.

Again, thanks for the info :)

Heh.

I played this with all 8 classes. All my characters resisted Valkorian's temptations except my Bounty Hunter. First because I wanted to see what the game shows when you accept his help after all those times I resisted, and two I purposely was playing him as being duped. He knows nothing of the Force. He wanted the promised power. Being Alliance Commander went to his head. He got drunk with power and influence. He wizened up eventually, but it was an interesting ride.

It's been drifting around that a possible part of the reason for separating Classes/Advanced Classes into Origins and Combat styles is so that it will be possible to add more Combat Styles, potentially even techstaff/Electrostaff and techblade/vibroblade wielding Tech Combat styles. There's been no actual word from the dev team regarding those rumors as yet, however.

I'm like you. I want Bounty Hunters to be able to use the Beskar Spear or even the older Beskad sword, both of which are associated with Mandalorians.

I don't know where Shae's Mandalorians would fall if they were living in prequel times. The Mandalorians under Duchess Satine Kryze were pacifists. Certainly, of the three factions currently supporting Heta Kol, only the Ash'ad rebelled against her recently and over her alliance with the Commander on Darvannis. Clan Fett isn't even playing a role here, which is surprising since Khomo Fett was clearly the one the least impressed with the campaign against the droids. When Shae breaks away from Mandalore the Vindicated, into her own little clan on Rishi, nicknamed by the locals as Torch, before the events of KOTFE/KOTET, she seems to be embracing the exact same "return to the old ways" as clan Ash'ad or search for worthy battles like Clan Varad.

Which is why I didn't really understand why she is still with the Alliance and running escort missions all this time. She doesn't seem to be a warmonger, and is at least able to convince people like Torian and Akaavi to follow her, and they are certainly devoted to following her lead. But rejecting the conquering warmonger lifestyle isn't the same thing as being a pacifist like Duchess Satine.

Er.... I didn't say anything about the Duchess and her bunch. 'True Mandalorians' and 'New Mandalorians' are two different groups. The 'New Mandalorians' are the pacifists under Satine, the 'True Mandalorians' were the group led by Jaster Mareel (and Jango Fett, for a time), that formed the effective middle ground between Satine's pacifists and Tor and Pre Viszla's Death Watch, with the Haat'ade wanting neither to give up their traditions for pacificism nor go off on a galaxy-conquering crusade.
