DakhathKilrathi
You're missing a lot. Those numbers are correct, but here's the thing. BLC is a slower rate of fire weapon, meaning that each shot does more damage. You are unlikely to have 100% uptime at any range, but that close the window you have to fire in might be only long enough for one shot. In general, and especially at that range, weapons that fire more slowly but do more damage per shot are going to be better. Remusqui actually has a fairly recent video where you can see the difference: The time to kill is much higher on the faster rate of fire weapon, even though it has higher dps listed in the tooltip. There are other factors in play too like armor or shield bleedthrough, but generally speaking dps on a weapon tooltip is a trap. As a scoreboard metric it can be useful for telling how you did in a game, and you can view your match dps by hovering over your damage total on the scoreboard. 200+dps is spectacular in any game, but especially in domination. I'm happy with my teammates if they can even hit 50. Edited December 20, 2021 by DakhathKilrathi

Ramalina
The way BLCs are designed also encourages good gunnery mechanics. If you miss because you didn't line up your shoot, it is a relatively long time before you can shoot again. So with a huge firing arc that makes lineup fairly forgiving, and huge hits (especially if you crit) rewarding success, it really motivates practicing good habits. Those good habits pay off in all the other cannons, even the high rate of fire ones, later on. You don't have to use BLCs to succeed with a battlescout, but they're definitely the best choice to start with.
