everything matters, but you can contribute constructively with any amount of gear.

 

for fury mara or any jugg spec, or deception, get your tactical first.

 

for merc get your 6 piece first.

 

dunno anything about sniper/sorc.

 

not interested in helping anyone become an op/PT.

Gear matters a lot. I can't recall a version of swtor that was so stat dependant as 6.0. Anyways I'd admonish you to find a guide online of the class you play so u can see what set bonus amd tactical u need and the stat priorities. If you get geared properly not only will u hit harder, heal better, ect but you will also be less squishy when u come up against that fully gold augmented player.

Yes, get 306 gear and a set bonus and tacticals or you wont be very competitive, which means you also likely won't be enjoying it.

Gear matters, but you can be good without it.

 

Some gear matters more than others. Typically your tactical and setbonus give substantial advantages to your gameplay. So get your tactical and set bonus first. Then get to 306 gear. Then min-max your gear perfectly.

yeh gear matters

 

ofc gear sets and other stats work in pvp lol why wouldn't they.

Taticals matter more then gear on most classes. Bolster will take care of some of the gear issues.
