Is it just me or do healers seem gimped in 7.0 PvP compared to previous patches?

There is many abilities that suppress healing on targets and few "big" healing abilities that healers have. Players still need to manage their dcd's and self heals even with healers in the match.

Dps have been power-crept quite a bit and Health pools + self %-based healing is how people survive. Healers will barely be able to match the dps of a good player when healing a target, they are basically here to delay the death of multiple people not prevent death from a focus target.

So then how does a healer save someone in a 4v4 from getting focused by all four of the other team? How do they put out enough healing to overcome that much DPS?

 

The way you describe it makes it sounds like healers won't be able to put out enough healing to match the damage a raid boss will be putting out either. I'm used to WoW heals, big, bursty heals that take you from within an inch of your life to full health quick.

They can't completely save someone getting focused by all four people in a 4v4 (although in a balanced match where both teams have a healer this will usually only be three because the healer will be too busy healing their team, and possibly only two if the person that your team is focusing has to kite and isn't able to damage your team) - the person being focused has to use dcds, get pealed for, and possibly kite. This is how it should work, if a single healer could keep a player up through 4 players focusing on them, then no one would die and games would just stretch out until acid.

 

Healers are more than able to put out enough healing in pve. Most boss fights the healers actually end up off dps'ing because there isn't all that much to heal, even in nim. There are not very many burst heal checks in pve, the most heal intensive stuff used to be aoe heal checks but with the current state of operative heals even those are laughably easy.

They don't. Unless the dps are so bad that they can't press their buttons properly, 4 dps rotations on a targets is impossible to outheal.

 

Basically, surviving to bursts is a personal responsability ie using properly their Defensive CDs. Healers single target healing out put is barely 0.5 times the dps output of a good dps burst, you will slow down death not prevent it. As said in later posts, operatives/scoundrel have a niche because of a broken talent that heals 8 targets with the standard heal meaning that they can basically output x8 what other classes do provided the team is clumped up and all take damage.

 

Other than that, if you try to find arena footage or even BGs with high ranks, you'll find team that camp at 20-30% health simply because the constant dps pressure is more than any heal can outheal, it is also because healers really shine when there are correct guards because of the nature of healing in swtor, healing 2 targets for 10% of their health is substantially easier than healing 1 for 20%.

 

Wow is way more bursty in terms of healing, Swtor was like that too untill about 3.xish. With time health pools increased while healing output stagnated or marginally increased.
