Same gender relationships clarifications?

I just posted a great big long suggestion here regarding being able to reset class quest storylines and replay them; said therein that it'd be nice if this would also reset companion romances/conversations. I'm mentioning it here because this would be one possibility for how to handle cases such as people who are worried about a current companion having a SGRA unlocked and if they simply wouldn't be able to access it, having already gone through the talks. Or cases where people are currently ignoring a companion they'd quite like to be able to talk to now, for the same reason.

Or cases where certain Imperial Agents are sitting in a cantina indefinitely in case they get the opportunity to flirt with Watcher Two later on...

Yeah, how did that happen since the options are marked?

My female IA has successfully competed the story without selecting one [flirt] nor doing anything that would give an indication that she liked men (cuz she don't).

My agent doesn't really "like" men either, but she's willing to fake it to get information. Just lie back and think of England. Or the Empire, in this case. :)

Course, she doesn't really "like" women, either; she's not really a very sexual person. She's been floating in a sea of lies and deception for so many years that she doesn't even trust her OWN feelings anymore. She's kind of tragic, in a way.

Hopefully one of the SGRA's will pull her out of it, and show her that she CAN actually have feelings for someone beyond "useful tool" or "dead weight to be killed".

My lesbian BH has flirted with guys now and then, but she does it just to tease them, so she and Mako can laugh about it later. She and Kaliyo would probably get along incredibly well.

It wasn't marked! Though I have seen that flirt tag before. It was something about celebrating my birthday and I replied but it's not my birthday.... Now that I think of it, sounds like the start of a bad porno.

Anyway! Back on topic... Checked my email but I didn't get anything asking for feedback. But I'll keep my eyes open for one.

Has anyone considered starting some kind of campaign? We need to make it impossible for them to ignore the question any longer. And I'm not saying they should drop what their doing and add it in, but just take a minute or two and come up with an answer as to when. Or if they don't know when, just say so. The silence speaks volumes though... And I fear continued silence will lead to anger and frustration and people will start canceling their subs.

I would love that in general...I'd really love to replay just the IA storyline at lvl 50...perhaps they can up the difficulty of the missions? I guess I could simply make another IA but it wouldn't be the same as I've become attached to my first one (and I associate her face with the voice).

Oh yeah, that would be great...though I also like all the subtext that's there currently with FemAgent/Watcher 2...lots of tension...it's kinda fun.

Well, mine would do that too if needed...there really isn't a situation where you absolutely have to use sex, though.

Would that mean you'd get to indefinitely replay a class quest to max out companion affection? I could see that as being an issue, mechanically speaking.

You can already do that now with heroics, can't you? I can think of a few off the top of my head that give affection.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I suggested it; also thought they could just up the enemy difficulty in instanced areas.

I'm actually really conflicted on whether to continue with my Agent right now for that reason; the tension is delicious, but I'm going to be so disappointed if it never goes anywhere. Or alternatively, if it does eventually go somewhere and I end up missing it.

They could just disable affection gain/loss after the first story playthrough.

Actually, nvm...that won't work. Forget I said that!

Yeah, I feel the same...though I finished my Agent recently and I'm probably out of luck.

I can understand being frustrated on principle. No SGR. But people are campaigning for what? A FTB with a generic companion that everyone gets. There's not enough bow-chicka for me, regardless, which is why I haven't really bothered to romance any of my companions. (Ok, maybe a little on Corso, because he grew on me but my Smuggler sure ain't gonna marry him) I'm a RP'er. Most of my toons are somehow involved with those of my husband and a few of our friends, and all run the gamut of potential sexualities. I understand, not everyone has people they trust to RP with.

I support people wanting a brief "Yes, we're doing what we can". In the meantime, for those that have it, there are other options than just trying to romance NPCs. Romance your friend's! Flirt with that hottie in the Cantina! That way, even if your toon goes back to their companion at a later date once SGRs are finished and implemented, that still offers another layer of potential RP/personality. The angst! The angst!! :D

Just realize they WON'T give an ETA if they know what's good for them, especially for something as "hot button" as SGRs - knowing, of course, that if the community is screaming this loudly they'll scream even worse if that ETA comes and goes because of unintentional complications.

A friend of mine plays a gay male IA and women were all over him. For example on Tatooine the main associate lady came onto him during the last class quest even though - according to my friend - he'd turned her down many times by then.

Similar things happen to the male Smuggler. Sometimes the unmarked "nice but not a flirt" option ends in sex regardless of ever choosing a flirt with that NPC.

Needless to say, I don't want that kind of aggressiveness for SGRs. I'd go so far as to say the OGRs should be fixed so that all convo options that lead to sex actually tell you they are a flirt/lead to sex.

Wow, that really sucks.

Though, that all exists to 'stroke the male ego' and I don't see SGRA male or female companions being that forward to the same-gender PC.

I just want information on how they plan on implementing this so I can plan accordingly (New companions? Current ones? If so, who will be available?)

I don't think that's so much to ask for unless they have no plan and haven't started yet.

And even knowing they have no plan and haven't started yet would be more than we know now. It would certainly make me capable of deciding whether or not I should resub or wait it out while playing Mass Effect or CastleVille or tiddlywinks.

Hey Everyone,

Your constructive feedback, positive and negative, is greatly appreciated!

As a reminder:

Insults and Rude Comments - You may not agree with what someone says but we do expect you to be respectful of others and their opinions. Being rude to them and insulting them is never allowed. This includes denigrating chosen playstyles or what someone chooses to be interested in.

This week's Community Q&A Thread is now closed, and we made a tremendous showing.

We also riled not a few people for whom this is not an issue of concern, but I think that really just means that our presence was impossible to ignore.

So - on to the numbers. While overall interest in the Q&A declined, we gained half again as many posters as we had last week. Of 902 questions submitted by the community, 89 were requesting an update on same-gender romance - not counting those asking why the Dev Team is even adding it, or only asking if there will be an option not to see it at all. That is twenty-nine more requests than last week, and comes to 9.8% of all questions. That is nearly double our showing from last week.

Whether or not the Development Team chooses to respond to us on Friday, they absolutely know that this is of concern to many of us, and we are by no means losing interest .

This really was an amazing turn out. Well done, everyone.

This, right here, is the moment in the movie where we all stand up and applaud the under-dog, regardless of actual success or not. Classy work, boys and gals!

Hope y'all can feel the sheer amount of warm fuzzies I'm feeling after reading this. Everyone, give yourself a pat on the back or a round of applause or a delicious beverage of your choice, 'cause we all deserve it. :D :D :D

No matter if we get an answer or not, the dev team knows that we're not going away. ..I kinda feel like we need a chant that starts with "We're here", but I couldn't come up with anything good.

And if it actually gets answered this friday, I'll post a drawing of Blizz with puppies and kittens. :)

...devs? Are you listening? If you don't give us an answer this Friday, you will be denying the universe this kind of cuteness. Do you really want that on your consciences? :p

As for the stuff discussed earlier about making choices in dialogue and being surprised by them, I wouldn't be surprised if part of the SGR implementation is clarification on that sort of thing. I've read about how some people playing male characters in DA2 were upset when a male companion hit on them, so my guess is that BW will both very clearly label the flirt/relationship dialogue options and make sure relationships are initiated by the player, not the companion. This would prevent confusion. In theory, it would prevent accidental relationship stuff, but nobody's perfect.

And I'm sure some people will complain about SGRs even being in the game, but meh, we can ignore them.

Now they have to answer, for how can anyone live without this gloriousness?

I wish that were so, but it remains at their discretion. Nothing in the Q&A arrangement says they are obligated to select the most frequently asked questions to answer. We can hope that they will, but as strong a statement we have made in asking, they could make a statement equally strong by not replying.

Looking forward, just in case, next week's thread will be answered on the 2nd of March. That is within a week of the much-touted Guild Leader Summit in Austin. Is anyone who is concerned with this issue on the invitation list, or know someone who is? It would be nice to be able to ask face to face, if this is not addressed by then.

Not to rain on the parade! We did great! I just don't want to jinx us. We don't know how much they don't want to talk about this. But they haven't yet.

Possibly because I've come across something that explains in no small part why Bioware may be reluctant to say a single thing about this. They're already dealing with too many jerks as it is.

Wow. That's just...a lot of words I can't say here.

My support and sympathy goes out to Jennifer Hepler.

That definitely provides another perspective on why Bioware may be reluctant to give us an official answer on the SGRA issue in The Old Republic.

Some people...sheesh. :(
