If you don't like the Trooper story ...

I am gonna go on a limb here and guess that you played a "light side" Trooper.

Well, that's why your story sucked.

You're a Trooper, and you're trying to fit yourself into some Jedi morality system?

Remember now, these are the geniuses who spend 23 hours a day meditating but can't tell if the Dark Lord of the Sith has an office down the hall.

News Flash: 3000 years from now the "enlightened" jedi will get tired of dealing with free-thinking Troopers and will create a mind-numbed clone army to try to do our jobs the way the jedi want us to.

Then the great Republic will last about 10 years tops.

It's dirty work, embrace it, defend the Republic in ways that would give pajama wearing jedi a collective heart attack. Let them feel as pious as they want to.

That's why the Light Side Trooper storyline is empty ... but he Dark Side Trooper storyline ..... ROCKS.

And I do mean it rocks, I've been collecting video clips of key parts and am thinking about patching together a video story from them.

My favorite quote: "I'm not just a hired thug. I'm a heavily armed thug."

For the Republic!

Thanks for that, it's an interesting perspective...

Definitely post those clips if you get them together. I have one Trooper, currently Lvl 41, that I went all light side. But just started another, maybe I'll go all darkside with this one and see what happens.

Is the storyline radically different as a dark side? Or are the conversations just a lot more interesting?

I think it would have been great though, that if you went all dark side through Ord Mantell you got a chance to join Tavus as a defector

This is true, I leveled a smuggler dark side and the story was great, plus the one liners were hilarious. The trooper story on dark side which I'm currently leveling is just as good. I'll definitely bet doing light side on a trooper is extremely boring.

Your devil may care attitude may get the job done in the short run, but at the end of the day only the discipline and morality of a light side Trooper will be able to defeat the Empire. If we sacrifice our own values to defeat the Empire then we're no better than they are. We cannot afford to become that which we fight so hard to defeat. Otherwise, what are we fighting for?

We become exactly what General Garza wants, actually. We're the "at any costs" people who do our thing so that the Republic can keep it's hands clean, up to and including being thrown away like Havoc Squad was to keep it pristine.

It's very easy to get DS points for things that feel right- like

Not letting troops go AWOL, or getting a Nekghoul plague sample for the Republic military

So many of my light side choices have been to blatantly ignore Garza's orders. It's especially funny when she tells me not to tell anyone my mission details under any circumstances and I give the full story to the first person I encounter, because that's where the light side points were. I only ever recieved a slap on the wrist with a "Don't do that again."

I've also let more Imperials live to fight another day than I can really remember.

I'm more a Boy Scout (LS III and counting at 44...) but I admit some of it was to twit General "That's not a moon, it's her backside" Garza for trying to order me to kill innocents during the cyborg incident on Corsucant.

And what a great backside it is. I'll never look at grandmothers the same way again.

Well I have to disagree on the "play light side and your story sucks". I'm lvl 45 and about Lightside 4, I've got quite a bit of Darkside points too. I play it as a loyal soldier of the Republic, I will generally go for the lightside option when the darkside is to basically leave somebody in the *&:@! But I do what is needed to be done for the good of the Republic, and if that means executing a scumbag instead of letting him run off with his tail between his legs only to inflict pain on others down the road then I'll happily shoot him in the face.

I will agree that Darkside choices to tend to be more humurous though. :jawa_tongue:

Sorry but that was hilarious when you think how true it is. All this about enlightment, knowing the force, being one with it and they had no clue what was down the hall *laughs*

Maybe I'll make a second trooper to go more darkside as I want to try commando anyway. Thanks for the heads up and the good laugh.

I haven't ever even arrested an Imperial, come to think of it. Or a separatist, or a shoplifter, or a jaywalker. I have been provided an assault cannon to deal with those situations.

The money I have saved the Republic court system is better spent buying me another round of ammunition for my next mission.

See, I disobey Garza when she says stuff like "be diplomatic" or "be careful not to attract attention." I love to "lie" for her though, so I don't compromise the mission objectives. She really is a great boss.

Senators and Jedi, they wanna preach at me fine, I can sleep with my eyes open. Just remember that I open fire as soon as I smell a sith ... and my trigger finger is a lot jumpier than a jedi's senses.

What was that line I gave Garza? "I'm a soldier, it's what I do. If you wanted a diplomat, you should have sent in a politician."

That's just the beginning of what I had to say about "jedi senses".

Yoda walks in, sees two hacked up jedi on the floor and there's count dooku holding a bloody lightsaber. Then lightning flies out of his fingers.

Yoda's advanced jedi intution? "The Dark Side I sense in you ..." :csw_yoda:

No ****?

My favorite is in the Clone Wars cartoon series, where the little muppet is meditating reeeeally hard and behind him is this big bay window, where gazillions of droids are landing and tearing the planet apart, with miniature flying cars crashing into each other.

Samuel L Jackson comes into the room to inform him: "The City is under attack!"

So Yoda's cleverly devised plan? "Defend the City!"

Figures. Jedi use the Force "for knowledge and Defense ... Never for attack."

Whatever would they do without Troopers.

Tell that to the dead bodies laying all over Coruscant from the latest Sith sacking. Plenty of pious Jedi on Coruscant. What happened?

If we sacrifice our own values to defeat the Empire then we're no better than they are. We cannot afford to become that which we fight so hard to defeat. Otherwise, what are we fighting for?

The jedi making a treaty with the Sith and giving up planets we had promised to protect in the name of "peace" was sacrificing our own values imo.

And remember, the only thing that makes us "better" than the Empire is winning the war. The winner gets to write the loser as the "bad guy" in the history books.

That's not gonna be us while I can hold an assault cannon.

I'd be mostly curious to see how the storyline with Sergeant Jaxo played out when you're slated to choose whether she or the prisoners die at the end of chapter two. Saving her at the cost of letting the prisoners die will definitely earn you dark side points.

I took the light side choice when I was rolling my Shield Specialist. I'm half tempted to choose the dark side choice on my Combat Medic, unless someone cares to post a spoiler here. :)

Now, I am a Light Side Trooper, but that's because the sensible options are commonly light side.

That said, I have racked up plenty of DS points, for example...

I killed that Imperial War Criminal, I killed a Balmorran Traitor, I killed those Imperial Troops who helped me on Hoth,

However, my guy is still Light Side II or III because a lot of DS options are honestly, dumb. I mean...

Give General Garza the Rakghoul Plague? Yeah right, that would mean she'd use it against the Empire, who could acquire a sample and make it for themselves and infect Coruscant. Like I said, logic.

If I remember correctly she basically goes crazy and ends up in a looney bin cause she can't handle that so many people died do she may live.

That's just it, we shouldn't have to meta-game our characters so we can enjoy the story. Both sides should be rich, which is the quality a lot of us have come to expect of BioWare. But the Light Side, and overall, the Trooper feels extremely robotic.

With every third line "For the Republic!", regardless of the alignment attached, gets old before you even get off Ord Mantell. I'm glad that an intern's story was selected, that's great for him, but the quality of the in between is flat and lifeless, unlike the Smuggler, Knight, or Consular. "Alright, I'll do it." A trooper should have more personality than that.

Call me a Bad Company Fangirl, but those characters had personality and depth, but the simplicity that made them attractive protagonists. Haggard and Sweetwater went back and forth on the most random of topics. Why can DICE, who focuses solely on Multiplayer, make a more interesting story for a campaign half their customers don't even see, than a Roleplaying, Storybased company.

Even the Dark Side is increasing dull, that's the character we expected to see overall, someone who doesn't give a damn about red-tape.

Honestly, I was let down by the story, which is probably why I've spent all my time PVPing and running Flashpoints.

I went Renegon and the story still wasn't very good.

The overall contextual arc was okay but the executions of the missions were very poorly done. Not once was I given the opportunity to fast-rope out of a LAAT.

Whiskey-tango-foxtrot? I'm SF for crying out loud. All of my missions should start with an insertion provided by a supporting element. They should have totally HALO dropped me into at least 1 or 2 mission areas.

Whomever the quest designer was for our stuff should have played Republic Commando before s/he began.

A thousand times yes. We feel like a Lone-Wolf, only Trooper in the Entire Republic that can actually get some work done, kind of deal.

I'm re-rolling a Dark-Side Trooper now. Story is a tad bit better.

Whoever was the writer for Mass Effect 3, should take a seat with the SWTOR team and teach them how to write a true Trooper Storyline.

I have a 50 dark side trooper and a 37 light side....Light side trooper started to say the same 2-3 canned lines over and over by the 30's...Dark trooper responses were far more varied. It's pretty easy to be a dark side trooper too...just follow orders.

Oh and my companions still love me, you can buy love, with ample use of the diplomacy crew skill :D
