I can't possibly see how any could go to this page and think "They aren't letting enough people in fast enough!".

How daft can you possibly be? The game's release date is 12-20-11, and it's when you should have expected to have your hands on the game.

Anything else is a bonus, particulary the first two bonus days that we were given.

So to anyone reading this who doesn't want to go through all 700+ pages, probably 900 by the time i actually finish typing this....

Worst launch ever blah blah blah

now that that's done...I know its been said before and won't help anything but I'll say it again. Bioware specifically said you MAY get UP TO 5 DAYS Early Access. they changed it to seven a week or so ago and also mentioned the wave process, if you missed that info its not bioware's fault it is yours. If you took off work, sacrificed family time or otherwise were way too obsessive over the game imo you should have to wait maybe it will give you some perspective, NO ONE has paid EXTRA for early game access if you paid 5$ that's the pre-order fee that gets factored into the final price of w/e edition of the game you paid for simply because you dropped 150$ on the CE doesn't make you better than the guy that paid 60 bucks for a standard copy.

Additionally while they did say EA is based on the date you pre-ordered i'm not sure why ppl immediately assumed it would mean earlier date=earlier access. I'll admit that is is reasonable to assume this, but that statement could very well mean that they draw from both ends and that the earlier end gets more invites per day than the later end. its still the first day all you nay sayers and trolls need to just chill and at least wait a few more days with all the rage.

I am a bit put out with the way the pre-orders for CE owners are being treated. I paid to play 7 days ahead of time before the release and here I sit waiting on a email wave that apparently did not come today. In addition the customer service line was zero help and seemed almost scared to tell me anything completely unacceptable release of a product BW.

COPY AND PASTE!

The ONLY way this should have been done is to have given ALL pre-orders (perhaps separated only by level of game purchased - i.e. CE customers get 7 days, SE get 5, e.g.) access at exactly the same time. Of course it will overload the servers and queues would ensue and all that - but that's what we all expect. Making your customers wait unknowingly with no idea how long it will be or when to expect an email is just adding insult to injury. A poor alternative would have been to send out emails with a set time and day that your access would be available.

I read in the top post how you are monitoring the server performance and are rolling waves based on server performance. Are you seriously saying you have to wonder at this point if your servers can perform up to the task - when you probably still have 90% of the launch day players yet to even be able to play? That is not at all a good message to be sending at the beginning of an MMO franchise.

At any rate, I love this game. I love BW. But I truly despise and am sickened by the way you chose to put your customers through so much stress for absolutely no good or justifiable reason.

I truly hope you improve, because this is a very very poor way to start out.

EVERYONE RAGING, READ THIS!!!

We absolutely understand you want to get in and play the game early. It's one of the reasons we expanded our Early Game Access from a maximum of five days to a maximum of seven days. However, there are a couple of important points to realize about today's opening salvo of invites, and the procedure in general for Early Game Access and launch.

First, Early Game Access and launch is not supposed to be a stress test. In our previous Beta Testing Weekends we got up to very large concurrent number of players and brought invites into the game at a very high rate. That was done to stress test every aspect of our systems and servers, and essentially to see if they broke. In some cases, they did, but that helped us improve for launch.

For us, launch isn't just about stuffing our servers with as many people as possible. As anyone who's been through a large MMO launch can tell you, that experience can be painful. Our aim with this launch was to ramp things up gradually, to spread our player population out amongst a variety of servers, to maintain all server types, and to keep queuing to a minimum (although we expect that to happen as we head towards December 20th). So far, all that has been successful for us on Day One.

The second thing to realize is scale. We invited more people to play Star Wars: The Old Republic today than many other MMO launches manage in their entire head-start process. As I mentioned earlier today, when we opened pre-orders we had a huge spike in numbers - far more than most MMOs capture at launch. That was the initial rush. After that, our pre-orders settled down.

What this means is that tomorrow, you'll effectively start to see the pre-order timeline expand. You'll see people who have pre-ordered later than July getting invites. The day after that, more people will be invited. We're actually planning to invite more tomorrow than today, and invite the same number again on Thursday - at which point we'll be into the original 'five days of Early Game Access'.

Last thing. Why aren't we continuing to send waves over time? Two main reasons - one, because we need to see that the servers are maintaining stability over time; adding a lot of players in a short period (in other words, stress testing) can cause stability issues.

Two, our plan is to continue to add servers - but carefully, and in response to demand. We need to monitor that demand and role out servers accordingly. A long-term recipe for MMO failure is to add a lot of servers early on, and then when population decreases, have to close those servers and merge them together.

Our aim is for Star Wars: The Old Republic to be around for a long time to come. Today's just the first step in that - an early step, too - and we'll be running smoothly, with a stable population, before too long.

This thread needs some objective intelligence.

How about some quantum physics Q & A?

Q: What is the Schrodinger equation, and how is it used?

A: At the beginning of the twentieth century, experimental evidence suggested that atomic particles were also wave-like in nature. For example, electrons were found to give diffraction patterns when passed through a double slit in a similar way to light waves. Therefore, it was reasonable to assume that a wave equation could explain the behaviour of atomic particles.

Schrodinger was the first person to write down such a wave equation. Much discussion then centred on what the equation meant. The eigenvalues of the wave equation were shown to be equal to the energy levels of the quantum mechanical system, and the best test of the equation was when it was used to solve for the energy levels of the Hydrogen atom, and the energy levels were found to be in accord with Rydberg's Law.

It was initially much less obvious what the wavefunction of the equation was. After much debate, the wavefunction is now accepted to be a probability distribution. The Schrodinger equation is used to find the allowed energy levels of quantum mechanical systems (such as atoms, or transistors). The associated wavefunction gives the probability of finding the particle at a certain position.

Most people posting here today are doing the same thing LOL.

STOP CRYING ITS ONLY DAY 1......did anybody read the portion where it said up to 5 days early? Bioware is smart and making sure everything is working correctly so the launch is not an epic failure. If you want to troll go back to WoW!

While i share the desire to play and the bummer for not getting into the first day. Who cares. The game isnt going anywhere. They are starting Early Access 2 days ahead of when they said. 95% of people on here are just here to qq or for boredoms sake. While i do think there has been a particular lack of communication about important things i do not think that sending out emails to let people know when they could log in would be any better of an idea. I would rather see a well managed flow of people so that everything is stable and servers arent dying in a day. I promise you had they let everyone in a few servers probly would have and this thread would still be here about qq whyd my server die and others didnt cry cry cry. Every person in here will be playing soon enough. Not to mention BEFORE THE ACTUAL LAUNCH DATE. So take a chill pill. Dont have a chill pill get one of those chill strips...put it on your tongue it disolves....chill.

Here is what I see

1) Anyone who paid for pre-order is now a paying customer of the SWotR game

2) Bioware/EA advertised that pre-order customers would gain early access based on how soon their pre-order code was redeemed

3) Pre-order Early Game Access was used as a part of their marketing strategy in order to encourage pre-order sales

4) They have violated the trust of these pre-order customers by deciding NOT to allow access as advertised but instead to give priority based on some as of yet undisclosed priority system which grants those who pre-ordered later access ahead of those who pre-ordered first.

5) Bioware/EA has chosen to knowingly commit this violation, not because of "unforseen circumstances", not because of "technical issues", not because of "lack of man power" etc. All of the possible standard reasons why such a "promise breaking" violation might be committed, which while frustrating, can be forgiven as an issue of circumstance, but ultimately simply because this is how they chose to do it.

If Bioware/EA is going to make a habit of CHOOSING to LIE to their PAYING customers, then this does not bode well for the longevity of this game.

End of Rant

Sir, I just want to say thank you for taking the time to explain how your process is working. The only regret is that I wish this was posted the day before you guys opened the servers. I suspect that you would have had a lot less grief and nerd rage. I, for one, appreciate your efforts. Thank you again.

I hope if Bioware learns one lesson here it is that you should communicate clearly with your customers. I know they are busy, but a little communication up front can go a long way.

This isn't a troll, and isn't exactly QQ although there is some of that involved.

I just want to put it down for the record that the way this early access program has been implemented is truly one of the most poorly conceived ideas that I've ever personally encountered in over 25 years of playing video games. I've personally participated in launches of 6 other MMO games, and there is nothing in those experiences that compares to how ridiculous this process is.

When you are dealing with a pre-launch even that is only for pre-order customers, after an extensive and massive beta testing period that was a huge success according to nearly all sources involved - it begs the huge question as to what is the limiting factor in the way you have chosen to roll out this game. I personally participated in the beta in a very limited way (not by choice, mind you, I just wasn't lucky enough to get a key) and was only online during the big Thanksgiving weekend test. That test was wonderful - there were a huge number of servers, and a huge population of testers. The game performance was amazing.

So, EA/BW - what exactly are you afraid of?

The ONLY way this should have been done is to have given ALL pre-orders (perhaps separated only by level of game purchased - i.e. CE customers get 7 days, SE get 5, e.g.) access at exactly the same time. Of course it will overload the servers and queues would ensue and all that - but that's what we all expect.
