  1. My only advice is find a balance. Roll the toon you want with access to the gear you want then build the stats up for the role you want. Want the cannon but to do dps, build to it. Hell, I am wearing a full set of pvp top end armor...with an orange helmet that doesnt fit the set because I like the look. I just jerked the mods and made it into what I need stat wise. Do I give up a bit to do it, you bet. Does it make THAT big of a difference in gameplay...hell no!
  2. I havent been able to test this yet, but anyone know if you hit someone with the net then concussive blast them if that counts as them "moving"?
  3. My combat medic trooper is my main, and my favorite toon. You will find you have plenty of dps , especially with your AOE abilities, to deal with trash mobs. Boss fights you will find you may be better off healing your companion and then if/when your companion dies switching to dps. The best part is, with the full heal build, you are almost impossible to kill once you get up to the mid levels. You can always kill off half of a group, run away while healing yourself until you drop aggro, then go back after you rez your companion and finish off whats left. I have a smuggler that is also capped and can tell you the leveling speed is not that huge of a difference. Maybe 10% slower on my healer vs my full dps smuggler. FWIW, I enjoy the healer because I get to "watch" the fights when my companions are attacking and I am healing, vs my smuggler which feels more like a console game because I am so much more active. Enjoy the healer, and enjoy getting faster pops on que's for flashpoints vs dps!
  4. They have this in Lotro. I would like to see it here as well. Make creating the die a crafting skill. Different color recipes can be drops with variety of rarity. Great for the game economy, and the customization is nice.
  5. Thanks all. Will keep working at it. So at low levels is the shadow an effective tank vs same level dps? IE, if I que up for an esseles run do I go as tank, or does this class just not hack it until higher levels?
  6. Hello all, Just rolled a shadow tank recently. Only level 15 now, but looking for advice on builds. I have read the sticky's in this forum, and have a few questions for the experts. First off, I have a 50 trooper healz and a 50 dps smug, so I have a feel for the game itself. Had a tank in LOTRO MMO, but I am struggling with the shadow tank skills and tanking in this game in general. I am used to having clear cut taunt skills, but can't seem to identify what those are in the skill tree here. Is TOR tanking more based on dps,? I saw mind control and mass mind control, but am curious if there are other things I need to build towards to be a more effective tank. Other than insight on the threat generation in this game my other questions are: I gather that willpower and endurance will be my main stat drive, is that correct? Do most tanks run with a shield instead of focus? Thanks in advance for any and all advice. Just want to start gathering my lvl 50 gear for this toon with money from my other toon so thought I would ask now!
  7. My guess, looking at it from a business perspective, is that we will see class story continuation, but as part of future PAID expansions. That will help cover costs of the development and voice work. These would be big expansions with level cap increases (think pandas wow folks!). Just my guess.
  8. Plain jedi robes, with just a rope belt and no hood. Also, this is much more in depth from a programming point, but the ability to modify colors. Give one of the crafting classes the ability to make "paint" pots. Then people can apply the paint pot to change the primary color of an outfit. For example...I get brown robe for my jedi. I either craft or go to the AH and buy a white paint pot for the chest piece. Apply the paint pot, chest piece becomes white, unify colors, now I have white version of the same thing. Have played other games that had this (lotro) and it was great for the game economy and let folks tailor their equipment appearance.
  9. FTP will come in November-December. Figure 4-6 months for those players to get up to level cap and get hooked, create some revenue from FTP cartel purchases. Couple of "major" updates that add some content and keep founders interested enough to stick around. Founders and FTP folks start to get bored at cap, so first major expansion hits the shelves in May. Pimp it, sell it, game has major bugs worked out at that point since it will have been live for almost a year and a half. EA can report flourishing fan base and revenue stream thanks to the influx of FTP players....Then thanks to May release of expansion EA gets to walk into E3 in June and tout all of the accomplishments and how great things are going. If I'm running EA, that is the timeline and series of events that I am betting my investment on.
  10. Ouch, so with 8 char slots your 150 cartel coins a month for subbing will give each toon about 20? They should bind cartel purchases to your legacy then so all your characters get whatever you buy. Or hopefully all the cartel stuff is just fluff and has no influence on stats/game play.
  11. My hope is the Cartel Shop is set up with "fluff" items only. Things like pets, or social gear, etc. Only items that change the APPEARANCE of the game, but have zero stat effect. That way you dont HAVE to buy anything to enjoy the game, but if you want you/yourship/yourcompanions/pets to look a certain way you can spend coins to do it. Would be nice if some of the cartel items were added as drops in areas that are limited access or no access to ftp, or if they could be sold by black hole vendors so you could grind them out if you really wanted them.
  12. For those worried about their existing characters when they go FTP, this was on the FTP FAQ: "What happens to my existing characters if I become a Free-to-Play member? We will not be deleting any characters from player accounts. Any characters already existing on your account at the time of the Free-to-Play launch will still be available to you afterwards. The choice of which of your characters are active under the Free-to-Play system is entirely up to you, and you can choose from any of your existing characters with no restriction other than the number of active character slots available. "
  13. I am a subscriber, and will continue to be one. My question to any Dev is this: Will my cartel coins that I am showing now be PER CHARACTER, or PER ACCOUNT. I have 1500 coins now, so will each character have 1500, or will i have to split them up? If it is per character, will new characters I create get 1500 coins, or will they start at zero? If they start at zero, I would be better served to create characters now so when FTP launches they are sitting on a stack of coins. Devs, please respond to this, as it has a major impact on new characters for those of us that are subscirbers.
  14. Wonder if the nasty que times are the euro folks? It is prime time there and they have just 1 english server. While in the US, it is afternoon. Yet it is all one shared message board, so the reports vs the experience vary.
  15. Hour long que with PAID SUBSCRIBERS....wonder what it will be like when the FTP folks show up????????
