  1. I'm so sick of "Is it canon, or not" discussion. Why would you want SWTOR to go full cannon? Good stories are good stories. If you're enjoying it that is all that should matter. Also the new Disney cannon isn't exactly all that great. I remember they made big buzz about how all their new stories would be consistent and work with each other and their main trilogy of films couldn't even be consistent with itself, not to mention all the conflicts with their new stories. The Mandalorian contradicted some things from the Aftermath books. George Lucas(who always maintained the entire EU was in an alternate universe) in a recent interview even said there were no Jedi vs Sith wars which The Old Republic era of Star Wars is all about. At this point I treat The Old Republic era as being in it's own universe separate from the official canon. There are far less limitations on it's story telling that way like how there technically shouldn't be any Sith Force ghosts, but SWTOR is full of them. Also it's just less stressful when you don't have to worry about something being cannon. I'm enjoying this game and it's stories regardless if it is cannon, or not.
  2. I wouldn't mind trying to recreate old armor sets, but I don't remember how most of them looked exactly, or never got some to begin with. I have a few sets that are half finished with some old toons. Unfortunately finding pictures of any of them have alluded me. Hell make it something only subscribers can access if it's about money.
  3. There are a lot of old Companion Armor's and Weapons people would probably like to get their hands on that are no longer available in the game do to armor and weapons no longer affecting companion stats. I'm pretty sure some players would like to get their hands on some of those old armor and weapons just for the looks and not just for there companions, but for themselves especially for characters whose class doesn't have that companion. Just make all the old sets adaptive armors and put them in the Vendors that sell Companion Customizations.
  4. Was making a new Sith character recently and it occurred to me how woefully lacking the Jewelry option was. We could really use some more options and they don't even need to all be original new designs. They could simply mix and match and recolor some of the older designs. For the Female Sith Pureblood there are only 5 Jewelry option, the first of which is blank and on each of those four options I like different aspects of them. Option 2 I like the neck Jewelry and the ears, for option 3 I like the head dress, on option 4 the piercings along the bridge of the nose and the earrings and for option 5 I like the jewelry under the eyes. You could greatly increase the number of options without actually having to make new assets.
  5. Maybe I wasn't clear enough. What I was suggesting was a way to change dialog without new voice work. The voice line I pointed out would simply need to cut out that first sentence from original audio for Cathar characters so it isn't awkward this guy is explaining to you what a Cathar is. I'm certain other basic edits could be done on other lines and for other species as well. The most challenging part would be getting the voice lines and animation to sync up. This can't fix every line of dialog and ideally we'd have new dialog, but it could reduce some of those weird moments where it seems the npc your talking to can't recognize your species.
  6. So I decided to get back into the game after not playing for a good while and I decided to make a Cathar Trooper. When playing on Ord Mantell a side quest NPC explains to me what a Cathar is, which just seems weird being a Cathar. I know it isn't high priority and costly to re voice a lot of old lines, but I looked at this set of lines and thought to myself. All they would have to do is cut the first sentence from one of the lines and it wouldn't be akward anymore. No need for new voice recordings. "Sleepyhead claims he woke up as the thief was making her escape. Only saw the back of her, but she looked like a Cathar." "The Cathar are aliens, sort of cat-people that lived nearby. Some were driven out of their homes from the fighting. The refugee camp is a good place to start." All you would have to do is cut out that one sentence from the original audio and the line is less jarring as a Cathar player. "Sleepyhead claims he woke up as the thief was making her escape. Only saw the back of her, but she looked like a Cathar." "Some were driven out of their homes from the fighting. The refugee camp is a good place to start." I'm certain there are other lines of dialog they could edit, or simply cut out to make more sense for aliens like the Cathar added after launch. So it seems less like people are pretending you aren't what you are in game.
  7. Was surfing the webs when I spotted this video on Youtube and I thought was worth sharing.
  8. So I know a lot of you have strong feelings about Gungans and mostly the result of Jar Jar Binks, but Jar Jar isn't representative of the entire race. Remember the Gungan people banished Jar Jar they obviously didn't like him either. I was thinking about a possible companion more along the lines of Captain Roos Tarpals a grizzled, honorable, and self sacrificing warrior. This gungan would be tough as nails, kick butt warrior. I would imagine the character being kind of simple and straight to the point though. I also always imagined that if we ever got a Gungan companion other characters would have trouble understanding his muddled basic as a running gag.
  9. I was simply proposing possible frequencies for wipes when I mentioned three months. My personal preference would be six, but even if the wipe was more frequent so long as a player stays active and levels up higher they don't have to worry too much. Also name wipes could be a good way to gin up activity from time to time. People hear names are being released to the general pool they log in to make/keep active their characters and may start playing again. I've made abundantly clear why I think wipes should be expanded to level 30+ characters. Your going to see more 30+ overtime and ultimately more inactive 30+ holding up good names, but I understand players spend more time building them up and that is why I suggested they have more time before going inactive. I don't exactly see a major problem with such a change in the criteria.
  10. If he's going to voice anyone it should be a Villain. He's got stellar villain voices that don't sound anything like Luke Skywalker.
  11. Before you post asinine assumptions please be sure to at least finish reading the post and the ones posted afterwards. And if you, or anyone else is going to continue distracting this conversation with irrelevant assumptions about a posters reasonings I'm going to start reporting posts as unconstructive and distracting. I want to keep the conversation largely relevant to discussing pros and cons and possible improvements for this suggestion. I'd also like to see the communities attitudes towards this suggestion and proposed ideas. Since that was an actual concern and criticism I'm more than happy to give a response. First off I proposed level 30 and up don't become inactive until after 6 months we could even tier it further with a 40 up at 9 months and 50 up at 12 months. As time goes on and experience multipliers become more prevalent among current subscribers the number of people who drop subscription and leave level 30+ characters is going to grow taking up names. As to the service member who leaves for a year would it be terribly difficult to have a friend, or family log in every once in a while for you? It's not like it would need to be done terribly often and emails will obviously be sent before any wipe to give warnings.
  12. If a more complicated process please elaborate why? They've done a wipe before I'm sure they can do it again. I lost half my characters names do to server mergers as well. I recently started playing again this summer after not playing for a year. To my surprise I found that most of the names I originally had weren't taken anymore and available because of the last wipe. You may be right that needing to leave for a period of time and finding your names gone would suck and lends to the idea of only doing 6 month, or yearly wipes to make sure people don't immediately lose them after a necessary hiatus. But I've also thought that if I go inactive like the year I hadn't played I'd understand if someone really wanted to use a name I have just sitting. While losing names is a bummer if you aren't playing, or taking the simple initiative to keep them active then you probably only have yourself to blame for not holding onto them.
  13. I'm not going to lie a big reason for why I'm proposing this is there is one name not available that I really want and used to have, but I also understand that if an active character, or subscriber is using it there is nothing that I can do about it. I just don't like the idea the name is just sitting around attached to an inactive character when it could be used by a currently more active player.... like myself and the idea it could become available in a future wipe is a nice thought to have even if you may just end up disappointed. That is partly why I think wipes should be regular and expected. I did suggest 3, or 6 months because a year might be too long a wait, or maybe not. Maybe names shouldn't be released to soon because a player is just on hiatus, but Bioware could use more frequent name wipes to it's advantage. Other benefits might be it gets people more active because they don't want to lose character names and could encourage subscriptions. My idea about not having to wait for a wipe to get an inactive players name was also a way to gin up subscriptions, or it could just be Cartel purchase and once again the name must be from an inactive character which you won't know until you try to change your characters name. I don't see at all why it's necessary to know the status of the character who has a name you want. I don't even see how it would give any sort of advantage in getting a name. When you first try to make a character with the name you have no clue if it's going to be available, or not, that should probably be the situation after a wipe.
  14. I wasn't calling you a cry baby I was saying that calling people cry babies, or whiners isn't constructive argument, or criticism against the idea of regular name purges itself. 12 months is a year. I just think it should be a regularly and be expected. It might even keep the player base more active and encourage subscriptions. While you are right people do need to be creative with their names sometimes. I came up with completely original for most of my character's names to make sure they weren't taken, but with certain names to twist them isn't easy often leading to just adding a number, or changing, removing, adding a letter. People might have roleplay reasons for wanting a name. For me how a name sounds and look can be important. Apparently Bioware last year thought it fit to wipe the names of inactive characters to be open to the active player base. I don't see the harm in making the process regular. What personally bothers me isn't that someone else got a name I want, but the fact that it might just be sitting with a character that's not being played.
  15. Did you even read what I posted before you replied? I already made it clears subs would be exempt and that the wipes could be done on a yearly bases. While it's great that you've settled this issue for yourself that isn't everyones experience and not the point of the discussion. The point is to propose ideas to improve this suggestion, give reasons for support, make substantive arguments against, or point out why it won't happen. I don't consider people are being cry babies about it to be legitimate point.
