  1. a lot of players use troll toons and are perfectly civil on other toons. it makes sense to have the option. for example, deadofwinter and the guy who made a meme toon for deadwinter in pvp. I'm certain he doesn't act like a child on all of his toons, and in pvp, you really do need to be able to see what your teammates are typing. and unlike pve, putting someone on ignore does not mean they cannot end up on in your random ops group. therefore, ignoring the meme toon only is the right play. b/c if you have all of his toons on ignore, then you cannot see him typing useful things on all the other toons, which he isn't trolling ppl on.
  2. if you have a max level companion, you'll be able to level your story gear plenty enough to overcome solo story content. swtor companions are the biggest crutch in the mmorpg world. I'm not criticizing it. I'm just saying that you can literally just stand there in the midst of a heroic 2 (technically classified as "solo content" but called a "heroic 2"?), and your level 50 affection healer will keep you alive indefinitely. literally all you have to do is NOT pull multiple groups. afaik, that isn't changing in 7.0.
  3. it's interesting to see you say this because the major criticism of SWTOR that I remember (from day one) was that it was fine but just a WoW clone. they thought BW might do something to change the paradigm. they did not.
  4. swtor doesn't balance. they don't tweak. at all. nada. I was AMAZED that they toned down the sin DK set. AMAZED. BW doesn't make changes. for years. years. WoW does. I don't give a flying **** whether you like the changes, but they do make them 10x more frequently than SWTOR.
  5. that's a first. I don't much care for WoW, but I'd give them the nod in just about every category regarding new content, updates, balancing, you name it. both games are kinda crap at gear acquisition. nothing wrong with the quality or rate of content drops from WoW...at least not when comparing to the non-existent drops from SWTOR (unless your only basis of comparison is the CM/Marketplace. SWTOR wins the space barbie run-off in a landslide).
  6. as soon as they removed separate gear and bonus sets, that went out the window. it's been a constant thorn in my(?) side ever since. incidentally, it also makes it more difficult to balance pvp (something not discussed in our other discussion). but... it's a common trend in MMOs (and this particular MMO has taken its lead from WoW since 1.0...albeit more story/solo/rp content). anyway, the days of separate gear sets are gone and prolly not coming back (alas). it sounds to me as though they're going to use bolster like a kind of level-sync in pvp instances. I have no idea what, if anything, that will do concerning "set bonuses"/lego system. obviously, it presents a potential itemization problem. hard to judge anything until things go live and all of the variables are in play. personally, I prefer gating gear behind content for pve. but the lack of separate gear for pvp (e.g., expertise) definitely gives one pause. if I had any faith whatsoever, I'd be worried. but I don't. so I'm not. ppl need to learn to sit back and chuckle instead of spitting into the wind. there is very little precedent to instill confidence that BW will please me (dunno about others). I think what's happening here is that some of the story mode ppl are feeling the reality of things I've been feeling for a while. eh. whatever. you don't get everything you want every time. that's what xpacks are like. edit: fwiw to the SM, non-ops, solo players, this game is still largely built around you. really, it is. the companion system has always been a crutch upon which you can lean. max a comp to 50 affection, and it will carry you through every single solo/story content in the game, even if all you do is click click click, keyboard turn, and the only attack you click is "rapid shots." (you can buy an affection token on the CM for the price of 8? months of free subscriber CM currency).
  7. yeah. I'm well aware of how SL plays. the argument against 7.0 is legit if you're allowed to bring in bonuses or higher ilvl stuff from other content areas. it's not just a min/max complaint. WoW allows that (in both directions, you actually gear up faster in SL through pvp, but yeah...it requires doing stuff that has nothing to do with pvp). bolster only accounts for ilvl discrepancies. not set bonuses (most important) or min/maxing (the later two accounting for about 15%-20% difference in my experience in 6.3). on the other hand, this isn't exactly a new thing with mmos.
  8. I assume you're talking about bolster? I hate to break it to you, but min/maxing is quite important in pvp atm (6.3). there's a huge difference to be found for stacking crit and dropping acc. base sets tend to default to more acc than most DPS specs want. BW wants players to use augs to tweak their stats in 7.0, which is fine, but you cannot drop and replace stats like acc/alac that are caked into the shells. this means instead of replacing largely useless stats (the extra acc), you're sacrificing mastery/power, which is a flat increase in the magnitude of every attack/heal. as usual, BW takes a good idea (gear progression/scaling) and botches it (mixing gear progression scales across content). this assumes that BW will allow modable Ops gear sets into PVP instances. I cannot imagine them NOT doing this, though. so you'll almost certainly see min/maxed modable gear sets in PvP against unmodable shells. the only hope is that there will be a large selection of shells to choose from so as to find an appropriate min/max combo for your spec. but that seems unlikely. and then there's the issue of "set bonuses" (or the equivalent. it's not quite the same in 7.0...not sure why they're taking their cues from Shadowlands, which seems to be one of WoW's least successful xpacks). TL; DR: min/maxing is a huge difference in 6.x. even without amps to mess with, adding the right augs and dropping unnecessary alac and acc, thus stacking crit, makes a palpable difference. worries that players will be bringing min/maxed modable gear into PVP, which doesn't provide such gear, are legit concerns.
  9. zero faith BW can or will ever do this or do it well (see jugg dps on 7.0 PTS). you can see that they've made DPS spec self-sustainable, and they've done so mostly b/c of players (these are the children) whining that they cannot compete on X, Y, Z classes. well, yeah. you're also solo queuing into an 8m WZ team designed around 3 roles: heal, tank, dps. so of course you're going to die fast if you go off on your own as a lone dps (or have to stealth away). between the large swathes of players (and I'm one of them) who usually queues solo and the advent of solo ranked, BW has clearly bent to pressure to make DPS self-sufficient. the end result is looking at nobodies who can stall a node for 2 minutes or more...a feat that required good/very good players to accomplish before BW started piling-on reflects, PWs, tacticals, etc. do you remember the class representatives debacle? it's not arbitrary. it just seems so b/c they don't communicate. and, of course, they're bad. hence the zero faith in BW. still, I'd rather see them start to reduce DPS dcds. imo, and I'm no coder, the best solution would simply be to scale dmg according to map type and team composition. so arenas with trinity would have a higher dmg scale than arenas with just healer, and so forth. back fill does tend to ruin this, but that should really only matter in ranked, and if ranked is subbing uneven roles, then I feel strongly that the match should not pop. the technology exists. FPs require everyone to accept before finalizing the team(s). this is no different from the work that (should) go into the introduction of every new xpack, level change, gear set, utility skill add/subtraction, spec ability add/subtraction. the fact that it seems herculean at the moment is the result of negligence over the past what? 5? 6 years of just piling one thing on top of another. they were never going to make meaningful changes once they opened up the PTS. they never do. at best, all you can hope for is that they roll back something that's already in the PTS. yeah. although they are quite homogenized at the moment. in arenas, you're either a "stand and fight," "fight and flee," or in the case of juggs, "flee and...flee." I misspoke or gave the wrong impression when I held PT dps as the ideal. I wouldn't want their exact set of dcds to be on everyone (that's the same as everyone having a "mad dash" or "reflect"), but the effectiveness of their dcds is appropriate for a DPS spec. they melt the way any lone dps should melt w/o healer or guard (and not nearly so bad as the emotional trauma ppl seem to be feeling from the 5.x version of the class). I don't begrudge non-stealth as having better face-tanking dcds than stealth who can escape. but again (e.g.) for the sniper, what does having a PW have to do with their class identity? (range, area control, CC)
  10. appologies, I was banned while in the process of previewing a reply 3 days ago. I think you're reading into things that aren't there. BW makes terrible balance decisions on a regular basis (not really. they don't balance on a regular basis. if they did then the bad decisions wouldn't be so bad/impactful). that's why we have DPS running around with CDs that make them skanks with higher dps. I thought I made that point clear. however, the only way you really fix the issue is to strip away the glut, certainly not add to it (6.0 very much added to it, as did previous xpacks). and of course there's pushback. no one wants to lose their toys no matter how inappropriate (not talking about net). it is the job of a responsible parent (or dev team) to do so. that doesn't mean they (i.e., BW) are a responsible parent. love you too, sweetheart. Currently PT DPS is a good representative of about what a DPS spec should have in terms of DCDs. there's a DR, an HP regen, and a 2nd break. depending on what hits you, the effectiveness of the dcds improves. there's a movement and root/slow immunity but only every 45s. I do not think sorc DCDs are bad either (not their big ones: barrier and PW), but they do seem incredibly mobile. It's not a class I play, so I can't say more other than maybe the root lasts a touch too long? and the extra range both sorcs and snipers get seems unnecessary. snipers are fine other than the teleport. already the best area control and CC in the game. great passive acc debuff and the uptime on entrench (for MM?) has always been stupid long, but cut down on the mobility and it's fair (i.e., teleport). jugg, mara, op, sin all have too many dcds and immunities. some through tacticals. some through gear. most through class abilities and utility addons. I'm actually baffled that mara has become an "escape" class (and of course, like mercs, they also retained their "in your face" dcds - only it's the reverse for mercs who got 2x rocket outs and kept their snares while getting the reflect/heal/DR dcds). and I'm fully aware that nerfing dcds will require re-scaling damage and healing in pvp. that is as it should be, and like nerfing dcds, requires testing to find the right mix. a lot of (most) DPS specs have a glut of DCDs and tools (immunties, escapes, etc.) designed to make them survive **** that they just should not be able to do w/o a tank and healer. but that's the thing: you can scale dps in pvp. all pvp in this game is instanced, including open world. but for every 3 issues, when BW actually takes action, it's to add rather than subtract (hence the dcd power creep). edit: I'm all for new abils with xpacks. but they just keep piling **** ontop of other ****, and if it doesn't work (and they actually bother to attempt a fix) it usually just means throttling dps. things need to be taken away, hopfully replaced with something different rather than just taking away set bonus gear and replacing it with...the same set bonus gear ( ) the only big move (which was so painfully obvious, words don't do it justice) was bubble stun. and even the fact that it went live, let alone wasn't removed immediately, is testament to the fact that BW doesn't pull back and say, "my bad. that didn't work so well." instead it's, "hmm. ok. we'll give this thing to another class to kinda of make up for that thing we gave that class." now how many classes have a reflect? multiple stealths? teleports and PW? a leap?
  11. giving players what they say or think they want and giving them what they (or the game!) needs are rarely the same thing, especially in regards to balance. every kid cries when mommy or daddy takes away their toys. it's human nature. we are inherently selfish. however, a bad parent gives his child more/better toys b/c the child whines and complains that her friend across the street has a better bicycle (?<insert toy>) than she does. even if the neighbor does have a better bike, buying the kid the best <whatever toy> on the street just pours fuel on the fire. and I find the parent-child relationship to be an apt metaphor for the Developers of a game and its players. if only mom and dad had a better parenting approach than turning on Disney+ and sticking their children in front of the TV all day.
  12. you say this, but the vast majority of guilds are full of "teams" that are stuck on SM or HM or NiM bosses. granted, they're awfully "beginner" to be struggling on SM, but plenty are. that's actually raiding. what's not "raiding" is throwing an ops of players wearing fully maxed gear into an SM Ops to blitz through it. and then do it another five times for the nightly CQ/GS/whatever daily. all b/c it's the quickest way to get tech frags to max gear some alt that isn't even max level yet...or to buy whatever ridiculously expensive augment component is locked behind tech frags. gawd, I despise this path BW has taken with CQ.
  13. as someone pointed out (stradin?), it's the equivalent of a legacy lock, like we've always had for reputation (for example). and I do think 3 is on the low side. instead of calling it character rewards, just put an actual legacy cap on it, and allow 1 toon or 20 toons to earn up to that weekly cap (in gear currency).
  14. ha! had to read that a 2nd time to figure out what you were talking about. just glad he quotes now, tbh.
  15. what are you talking about? are you calling players storming 10 toons per night through the latest CQ SM raid "raiding"? or are you actually talking about raiding (i.e, progression for that guild working to defeat an entire Ops? this can be SM, HM, or NiM depending how far the guild group has progressed, because THAT'S raiding. not this assembly line CQ stuff).
