Hi, my avatar is on default. How do I change it to something else

Hi all, I haven't had not one issue with lag since I started playing SWTOR.. and it's been bad for the past couple hours. Cant move items from inventory, cant type in guild chat or any chat. I quit, restart, login again and eventually it freezes up for me. Anyone else experiencing it as well or is this a personal issue? I'm on US Star Forge
