  1. Developers don't do extra work (e.g. removing GTN terminals) without a good reason for it... although "good reason" can sometimes be in the eye of the beholder . I'd guess that either they were trying to concentrate the social hubs in the game, or else they have some performance / server memory limitation that they have to deal with. On the latter, consider if they cached all recently Searched items in server memory to help speed up performance, and wanted that cache to be on the server where the GTN terminal was - also to speed up performance. Then you could understand why they couldn't have them "everywhere", and certainly not on every ship... Like most others, I'd love it if there were GTN terminals near the cargo hold terminals near all space ports. But if I can only have 3, put them on the most populous planet for players in the 30s, 40s, and at 50. Nar Shaddaa can serve as the one for the 20s (even if it's different due to the cross-faction market).
  2. It's an entertainment service, and it's more than a bit silly to assume that all (or even a majority) of the customers of that entertainment service enjoy being entertained in a single way. Some people love PvP, some absolutely loathe it. Some love raiding, some hate it. Some love crafting, others would rather have dental surgery. Providing multiple paths to the cheese is more expensive for the game company to do, but it makes for more happy customers. The "riskiest" or most complex ways of obtaining the best gear should take the shortest calendar time to achieve, and the least risky/complex should take the longest. But give everyone a way to get there, via the way(s) that they enjoy playing. Turbine wanted to do that in LOTRO, but simply didn't have the financial success to allow it.   3. True. I've seen it in every game. However, a couple of things have changed in the post-WoW MMO world: Casuals outnumber hardcore players by a wide margin... that's a big reason WoW helped grow the market so much, and casual gamers are still the growth vector in this market. Those who want to be "elite" are basically saying that they can only feel rewarded if others aren't. Not a grand way to design an entertainment service, in my opinion. Let the elites have a shorter path to the cheese, so they can be "rewarded" with getting the cool stuff first. Then provide a longer path to the cheese for the rest of us. Khafar
  4. There's still a limit on total server capacity per world, and there's no guarantee that they can direct all of a world's servers to just "starter planets". By letting people in via "waves", they can monitor loading, have time to bring new worlds online as needed, etc. The bottom line is that if they didn't throttle the inflow of customers, they could wind up with a major mess on their hands. If anyone thinks people are QQing now, just imagine what would happen if they had to shut down the game for "emergency maintenance" on the first day. They'll deserve a lot of praise if they can pull off a smooth launch, and if people are having fun... a month from now they simply won't care if they got in on December 13th or on December 15th.   5. Nobody should expect that... the surge will be huge, and they need to spread things out so there aren't 1000+ people trying to run around on each starter planet concurrently. These worlds consist of a large cluster of very expensive servers each, and they need to make good use of that hardware, spreading player levels over time to help balance that load across all planets on each world (and the whole cluster of servers for that world). If they have 2 million pre-orders and wanted to allow everyone to rush the gates all at once, they'd probably need like 1000 worlds (not 107). Then, post-launch, they'd have massive server mergers once the excitement died down (because once players spread out past the starting planets, each of those worlds would feel too empty). Even just the Day 1 rush will be huge (although perhaps they'll finish that up by the end of today). Didn't they have like 350K pre-orders on July 21st? Kudos to them for spreading things out, hopefully keeping the launch smooth. I don't expect to get in until maybe Saturday, but that's OK. My kids won't be joining me until Tuesday . Khafar
