I feel like everyone's going to want to be a Jedi or Sith. I mean, who doesn't want a lightsaber? |
Those new robes are great. And the lightsaber stuff is also really COOL!!! |
I hope to see the lightsaber to some real damage as well????? Like is it not sopose to cut and slash? I want to se the inside of the robots. :) Lets hope they put in some visable damage... |
I love how a huge portion of the comments in here don't make any sense anymore because the bulk of the "negative" comments have been removed, even some that were very objective (and even positive on some points), such as mine. The bottom line, Alpha, Beta, whatever, what is shown in this video as far as animation and combat dynamics goes, doesn't look all that good or exciting to me, and certainly doesn't live up to what the developer's are saying in their own commentary. Now that my comment has been deleted I'm even less likely to purchase this game. But I'm sure that has about zero meaning, I'm just small potatoes to big corporations like Lucasarts and Bioware. I've been a fan of this IP for about 31 years now, but I have no patience for the corporate control BS. If your game can't withstand constructive feedback from interested consumers, and must be bolstered by comments from a small group of zealots, that speaks volumes for the product itself. |

Maybe I'm not the one that should be saying this, because while graphics are important to a degree, they don't matter all that much to me, and they certainly aren't one of my major concerns when I am looking at trying a new game. That being said, I thought the bounty hunter or whatever it was using that cord to pull his opponent into point blank before doing a "coup de grace" style shot on him looked freakin' sweet, same for when he used his jet pack to slam into that other guy. I do think it was wrong for your comments to be deleted if they offered constructive criticism, in addition to that being ethically wrong, its a bad idea from a practical stand point. I never saw your comments so I can't really judge what was in them myself. I do think it is important to remember this game still has a year(?) before release, and I am quite sure its look will be fine-tuned (bioware has a pretty good track record about this kind of thing) but I am glad that bioware is thinking of those of us (me) that can't afford a new top of the line computer, I would really like to avoid upgrading just to play this game, I'm not exactly made of money lol. |
Completely agreed, I was very disappointed with the devs attempt to sugar coat this combat and make it sound like it won't play exactly like WoWs does... when in reality, it will. I had a small glimmer of hope for PvP in this game, I think it became apparent not to long after this website was created that it was going to be catered to hardcore Star Wars fans a possibly PvErs. After this video and the fluffing of the most generic MMO combat there is... its probably safe to write this games PvP off as a "no go". |

One word...Awsumness |

Great job! it's amazing xD |

Absolutely true, can't wait! =) |

I'm incredibly excited about this game. And it has been a LONG time since any game has excited me. I've been playin MMO's since the days of the early MUDD's which most of you probably don't even know what that is. This is the first game in AGES to even try to breath life into this stagnent genre. All other companies have been doing is sticking with the same old formula (and most of them poorly). We, as gamers, NEED something new to do. We need to be excited to play again. So far, since WoW came out there has been no need to ever play anything else. Why give up 6 80 level toons to go do the same ol' same ol' in another game. I PRAY this is the game to rescue me from MMO hell and by all signs it seems to be the one. |

WOW. This looks great! Ya know what would be cool? In KOTOR II there were different styles of lightsaber combat that were geared toward different situations, like for a one-on-one melee fight, or for defending against multiple blasters, or for conserving force energy, etc. There were also multiple ways to customize lightsabers for those situations using specialized lenses and crystals and things. A useful new addition to lightsaber upgrades would be some sort of variable lens or something that would automatically switch the nature of the blade from, oh say, concentrated and narrow for a duel to wider for deflecting blaster fire. The type of blade that the variable lens produced would depend upon the fighting style that the player was currently employing. Of course, something like that would probably be a relatively upper-level item or would at least be more expensive and rare than a standard lens, but would that not be sweet? |

Looks like you guys have done a great job balancing out the classes. Keep up the good work! |
That was an awesome combat video! It seems like you gave the bounty hunters all the best skills though. What about the trooper class? They need some versailtility as well |
Saber combat looks alright at the moment. Doesn't excite me that much at the moment since it's not as fluid as I was thinking but could just be the way they are demonstrating it. But whatever, not planning on being a Saber user. For my first character anyways. |

Add add add |

It's great to see how the mechanics of all the different classes balance out. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on one of those rocketpacks. |

houu! Es amazaing, necesito jugar a este juego. |
omg this game is so jaw droping i just really hope that they dont rush it and boom the whole damn game, but i really hope it does come out soon and it looks to me like its going to be at least comparable to world of warcraft if not better and the in game combat looks SICK i just hope its not the same old ever time and i know their saying that its not going to be like that but i just dont know how you can come up with that wide array of fighting styles and diffrent combat styles too. SWTOR FTW |
Statement: I hope that if you are a sith during combat with another lightsaber wielding opponent you would just try to bash through the lightsaber with all of you might. |
so cool |

Star-Tards rejoice!!! Another juicy squirt for the masses!! |

[Warning Incoming Transmission A.K.A Wall of Text] Alright, enough is enough. Please simmer down, and hug your pillows. Getting right to the point. This is a game that isn't even in beta and yet there are people complaining about it already. Fine fine. Complain away. But you should at least do it logically. Graphics this and graphics that. If you want something to complain about go back to your WoW or your Maplestory. It will be easy pick'ens there. Don't complain about the graphics or yammer on about how they appear to resemble World of Warcraft graphics or something of the sort. To tell you the truth I thought SW: ToR looked more akin to City of Heroes/ City of Villains graphics then anything else. (Go take a look for yourself if you don't believe me). Now we would all like a Star Wars Massively Multi-player Online Game with the graphics of Star Wars The Force Unleashed, but get real. The RAM processes alone would be killer for anything but a top-of-the-line personal computer. Not every one can afford one of those. Also I am 99.99% positive that BioWare has taken into account of how populated certain areas can or will get. (For WoW players step into Dalaran). With a lower overall look it will allow for smoother gameplay and thus more enjoyable time committing hysterical amounts of mass genocide witch is typically found is every MMO. Imagine having 100 enemies on screen right near or by your character. Would you prefer to be able to clearly see each and every one of them but be unable to remove their existence? Or would you rather see all of them and begin the searching of their festering corpses? Everything has a reason to why it must be so. IN this case it would be what is more practical then the ladder. BioWare is doing their best to meet the expectations of the soon to be players. Let us not lose hope in their hard work so soon. Save that for beta :P Speaking about glitches, yes those foul fiends! They lurk every where, kinda like typos that lurk next to your dust bunnies. You see a glitch, I am sure BioWare has seen it too. But what types of glitches are more important? A few visual glitches of missed swordsmanship (lightsabership if you want to get technical), Blaster-fire and explosions or would you rather have a glitch where your skill doesn't activate because you are stuck in or out of combat? (I am sure many people can understand where I am coming from here) Come Beta, it will be us who finds and DESTROYS these so called glitches. At least the annoyingly important ones. Some times you just have to admit defeat, not all glitches are worth the time and effort to try and fix. It would be better spent keeping other glitches from forming or annoying the players *ahem* Soon to be players. Now lets all let BioWare do the important stuff, like crafting or professions (whatever they wish to call it, a name by anything other name is still just a name) or even adding more worlds with more content then that lack luster Star Wars Galaxies. Judging from the number of viewers and comments, this game is highly anticipated. Some wish to play and become addicted others wish to find out if they can spend hours on end playing another MMO. We will ALL make a personal opinion on this game. But with that said it doesn't always need to be made public. Specifically if it's unintelligent and hateful sounding and or seeming. We all know why you are here. You're interested. And thats what they are trying to do. Make people interested and keep the ones who already are. Some might say our complaining means we care, but most will believe we just are concerned about our next favourite games future. BioWare! It's our baby! Don't ruin it with unoriginal things we can find in any other run-of-the-mill MMO! Thats enough rambling on for me. UNTIL NEXT TIME! [Thank you to anyone who actually took the time to read this. You're one hardcore reader-fan-person-thingy] |

man im 100% on your side blizzard never built rpgs mmo only item-addicted-perfection games on the other hand bioware have come to be an expert in rpg story structure games like mass effect,kotor,e.t.c. so dont tell me blizzard is making rpg mmos,it may have rpg appearance but is storyless..bioware ftw. |

I think the game looks great and the combat animations look very good. How many games have you seen to date where every single saber strike or every bit of blaster fire is perfectly blocked or deflected in every animation? So what if occasionally your character's lightsaber is by his face and blaster fire that looked like it was aimed at his stomach is deflected. It's not a movie, its an MMO in which players can create almost infinite variation in the circumstances. I think Bioware has done a remarkable job making the combat look good. Furthermore, not all of the combat show in the trailer was stationary, there was some movement. But do you think it would be easier for you to see a precise movement being performed by a character better when that character is running around or standing in one place? The game looks freaking fantastic, especially when you consider that beta testing has not even begun yet. People need to forget their unrealistic expectations and look at this game relative to similar footage they have seen from other games at corresponding stages of their development. People would be mightily impressed with Bioware then. Anyone complaining about animations or the nature of the combat in the game at this point clearly doesn't actually understand the development process. |

The graphics are not wow like, wow has a ton of low res skins, however very good motion capture, making the game easy on the eyes despite the lacking graphics. The graphics in this game remind me of the clone wars animated tv shows, high res skins (the videos are such low quality u can't really c it, but take a look at some of the screen shots.) This graphic style is called "stylized realism" its slightly more realistic than clone wars, and very high res, so it looks crisp and clean at all times, from all angles, but it runs smoothly, and if they do as good of a job with the motion capture as they do in the clone wars series this game will look and feel fantastic to play. It should run smoother and faster than a lot of the pure realism games out there (one i play is aion, built on the cryengine.. gogo crysis mmo graphics). This kind of graphic style is great looking because of the crisp high res setting and characters, and the great motion capture. It moves like its real and looks like its real but its slightly cartoon, worked great for clonewars, but its going to work even better here. This game will look good even as the next gen of realism games come out, it has a distinctive style and a fun, beautiful setting. |

Well said. |

Well said Master Kley(even if you are Jedi scum)...the combat we have seen so far ,as amazing and new as it is, is just the very beginning...who knows what insanity Bioware will reveal at higher levels "Tell me what you regard as your greatest strength, so I will know how best to undermine you; tell me of your greatest fear, so I will know which I must force you to face; tell me what you cherish most, so I will know what to take from you; and tell me what you crave, so that I might deny you." |
Bioware needs to show a little more alien species...just a little taste to whet our massive appetite |
That would be cool, but I am sure it is coming. Considering that the game is still in such an early stage of development it is not surprising that there are not more character models. Even in the NPC's you mostly see humans. That will be mitigated as the game develops further I am sure. |
Wow. Some of you guys have some serious expectation problems. This game looks great! Granted there are some glitchy moments that I have seen in the trailers; But, doggonit, aren't there in just about every MMO out there? Considering the amount of detail, interaction, and special attacks that I have seen Bioware dump into this system I am surprised that there aren't complete moments where the computer in the video is struggling to catch up. This is going to advance the way we play MMO's, so I am expectant that the first couple years are going to be spent debugging, patch releasing, and maybe a couple of fun new things thrown our way. What I'm saying is... be patient, and keep an open mind. You don't have the game in your paws yet - so don't judge yet. Besides, I'm sure that everyone who is complaining on these forums will be running out to buy a copy come release date. And for those that hold out, their voices will be drowned out by the masses that will play a mildly glitchy first run Star Wars MMO (I am not counting Galaxies... please don't make me explain why). Wait for it. |
All true. In addition, this game is not even in beta yet. Beta is meant to be the stage where bugs or problems get ironed out for the most part, and even then a few (hopefully minor) problems always make it to the live version. Why don't you say we give bioware the opportunity to start the fine tuning process before we complain about it. It's like complaining that your newborn son isn't already playing in the NFL. |
Agreed, well said. Glitches are in EVERY game, and the effects and grafficts are the best I've seen in an MMO ever! Keep up the great work BioWare, I am pleased to serve in the Republic as a Knight! |
Well put sir. Well put. |
Doesn't Bioware understand that choreographed combat isn't what makes good combat? All I saw in this video is a bunch of guys standing in place and making fancy moves. Good combat is created by the interaction between you and the opponent be it an other player or an NPC. The only moment where the combat seemed better was the fight between the bounty hunter and jedi and even that pales in comparison to the Jango Fett VS Obi One fight in episode 2. I do understand that it's hard to make a game with combat as good as Jedi Knights especially in an MMO but there could have been a little more effort put into this. |
Um, you DO realize that the vast majority of the video in this was canned stuff for demos and such. You know the ones, where some guy is speaking and the enemy pops up and you kill it while it doesn't move. Indeed, you can probably see some of the same fotage used in other TOR videos. The videos are only there to show different actions the player can do. The ONLY footage there which wasn't like that was the bounty hunter/jedi fight you liked so much. So... what exactly are you complaining about? |
I wouldnt worry. Im sure the combat will have all the movement you could ask for. The characters are still to show the movement of the skills. Imagine if they circle stafed the whole time during this intro vid...yeah, wouldnt look that good. They are stationary to show the movements, thats all. |
You did not just see the whole game in 5 mins... there should be more. Although you do have a point that standing in place while pvping, or pveing is not what some people would consider stellar combat interaction... your point seems to be derailled by overgenaralizing thier efforts into something we are not certain about. It would be nice if BW could clarify some of the concerns of the viewers with the video we just watched ( or any other video after being released) just to clarify what is it exactly we are watching, and remove the doubt. Is it aplha footage? Why is it glitchy? And the hundereds of other concerns... Although they could also assume, that we would assume the worst and try to control the 'mass hysteria', and forsee the concerns that would be brought up, and therefore clarify before hand. Oh well, I have faith in BW. So for me, I am very happy and comfortable with what I saw as a glimmer of great things to come. Thank-you BW. Looking forward to this game! |
Ah I'm so excited. This is gonna be an amazing game. I can't wait for launch and hope that I can do some bug busting in beta:) |
Fantastic video, its great to see such a variety of combat moves and abilities. Looking forward to a future feature on the mmo aspects of the game such as crafting, trading and in game community. |

Death to all JEDI SCUM |
is it me or does that William Wallace guy look about 12??? |
Thats not a nice thing to say. And, no. He is not 12. Willam Wallace does not age. Aging means there is an end to life. Willam Wallace can chose what age he wants without following the fragile entropic nature of the universe. |
... The time has come for us to choose sides if you haven't already.... prepare and know my name |
Ok, i dont know why some people complain and think it looks static, this is more action than some real third person action games i have seen. The hype for me had gone down quite a bit, so long time before launch, after this video I am so excited once again and cant wait to smash, blast and throw people around with all kinds of weapons and powers. GOOD JOB BIOWARE!! |
I would still like to know why all of the Jedi buy their lightsabers from Fisher Price. |
