Alright so the previous post is my opinion of some older game options from SWG that I would like to see in this new MMO. Now ... here is what I see from WoW and how they keep people interested.
Juggling the attributes is one of Blizzards many tricks to keep a high interest in leveling and end game content. For instance Strength and Attck pwer are achieved to make damage per second (dps), 12 str = 24 attck pwr. Ok well if you notice certain types of gear/enchantments they will say +12 str or a similar item would say 24 attck pwer. Same idea goes for Mana / Health per second, anyone can get the same result with a certain amount of spirit. My point is if a juggling effect is put into place instead of majorly nerfing gameplay then most will stay for a long long time. Making it seem like we are getting changes when all Blizz does is change the look is one of the secrets to MMO content patches and expansions. I'd like to see some of the same crafty ideas come up with this TOR MMO. A major question in my mind is ... Are we all going to get instances in this new MMO? Are we going to have to wait 6minutes for a transporter to show up so we can travel between planets? I know for one I want to be another combat medic and all of the classes/professions are awesome in SWG. As I have mentioned before about the tricks involved with keeping us interested there is a good reason we stay interested. A natural human reason and that is the secret we all know to be true but rarely talk about. To capture that essence and create a formula of game play is the secret to my interest and most of anyone involved in MMO's. I don't care what anyone says I'm very excited about this new mmo. I want more information and also what is the stock worth at the moment. I can only imagine how much the stock will go up once the beta is in play. BTW! I have signed up for the Beta ... I pray for an invite. ... HINT! HINT!

I into SWG a couple weeks after it's release for about 4 months. Around the fourth month of SWG they nerfed it to where everyone was getting holo crons and from there everything got stupid in my opinion.
For this new version I would really like to see alot of the same game attributes i.e. Almost endless roaming, Housing, Player cities, speeder and creature mounts/pets, Professions using crafting machines and harvesters, Quests/jobs from the teller machines. Now the kicker to making a great mmo is keeping our attention. The storyline is sounding awesome and everyone is trying to figure it out already from the book series, but if this new mmo is based 5k years before any known Star wars saga; then I have no idea. From what I have seen so far from screen shots and clips this mmo is looking a whole lot of bad arse. Now patches with minor bug fixes to content is cool ofcourse, but continuously changing content will drive everyone away like in SWG. WoW is very different with the whole instance system and limited land masses. WoW can be xplored quickly and there is no room for housing even if they wanted too. If TOK mmo introduced alot of the older game options into the new world they are teasing us with, I am 1000% down for some kicking of Sith ARSE.

Do not compare this game to W.o.W

W.o.W is just like Mc-Donalds.

"They've served over one billion, but their food sucks"

haha

Wow doesn't suck. It simply lacks the superiority of skilled players. In WoW everything is about your equipment, so if you have a lot of time to get all the best stuff, but bad at using skills, you will win most of the time against someone who has poor equipment but good tactics. I hope SW:TOR will be much more skill oriented than equipment.

Wed, 12/31/2008 - 01:18

I agree with you, but as I said in other thread:
By being deceptioned I learnt not 2 wish mmos, I waited anxiously 4 ultima online and it wasn't worth the while, terrible, hope the same doesn't happen with TOR, I guess it won't anyway, till now it's looking cool.

Kudos to these Guys they're doing a great job on all these games but in my browsing of the comments I have found that many people are disappointed in the decision not to continue the KOTOR Trilogy but I can however say I do not care that you decided this way but I am however very anxious to see how the new game will turn out you have all been Juicing it up from what I can tell and sincerely hope you come through after all there is a lot riding on this game. However if I may make one suggestion it would be to continue The Greatly Longed for KOTOR series I think you would get a very good response to that particular decision. However I am merely a humble and loyal fan of Star Wars and hope that my message is repeated for better effect, and possibly in better terms.

Sun, 12/28/2008 - 03:32

Hope there is a mandalorian avatar or an assasin droid one.

Fri, 12/19/2008 - 15:46

I'm still waiting for the Selkath avatar, besides if there are other races to be in this MMO I want to see them!

Mon, 12/08/2008 - 02:23

Thanks BioWare for the new updates and great pics!!

I'm still not sure about the oversized lightsabers - part of me likes it because customizing the look is a big part of the game - part of me is not loving it because it makes the game look a little corny...

Sat, 12/06/2008 - 15:41

nice art work, I hope the developers take their time with the game. I would rather wait another two years for a great game then play an unfinished game in the up coming months

Fri, 12/05/2008 - 21:47

they could atleast give ETA. it could be months or years? although it was first anounsed october 2007 so they obviacly been working on it for over a year so with a bit of luck it will be months and not years, doubt it though.

Sun, 12/07/2008 - 18:48

I think it can be released in the final of 2009 or in the start of 2010

Sun, 11/30/2008 - 22:25

i forget when does it come out ?

Sun, 02/15/2009 - 11:43

To be honest, WoW is losing players. The latest expansion offered nothing new. It's the same as the Burning Crusade just takes place elsewhere. Of course WoW won't die anytime soon it will have millions of players for many years, but it has already started losing number.

Wed, 12/03/2008 - 00:20

You guys need to stop looking for a WoW killer. Blizzard will be the only MMO company that will ever be able to create a so called Wow killer. they have over 11 million players and growing so for Wow to get killed guess what.... about 70% of that community will have to completely stop playing the game. Now Bioware has made alot of great games in its day and i hope they learn from all the mistakes that these MMO companies continue to make. First they need to have a long beta process to knock most of the bugs and see how fast it takes to level to max. For example in AOC at launch they were missing quests in the game from levels 56 to 60 and at 77 to 80. This would have not happened if they would have had a good beta test. Second, there must be a solid end game ready for power gamers. There is nothing worse than maxing before the 30 days are up and 80% of the players will not renew the accounts going forward. Third they need to make their and not listen to these want to play now players. if the game is not polished these same players will leave right away and go back to what they were playing. Three words Bioware.... Take Your Time. There are plenty of MMOs for players to play before this game is launched. Make you r game and make the players play what you make. Lastly... you are not WoW and dont try to be or beat WoW. Its not going to happen. Most people dont like Sci-Fi so the player base will not be as huge as 11 million. Make game so amazing that when you accomplish something it feels like it. Stop giving players everything like they do in Wow... I will love a challenging MMO again.

Sun, 11/30/2008 - 22:08

Man everyone is just getting too excited, calm down a little. I would rather have them take an extra year to develop the game then release it too soon and make shortcuts. Just think, if nothing is being published on the site, that means something isn't right yet and they are fixing it. Patients is a virtue. I have been taking game development classes and doing my own personal study on MMO dynamics, and so far The Old Republic has performed admirably and then some. So just wait and you will get what you want, and don't forget to post ideas and concepts of things you want to see in this game and the developers will do their best to incorporate them.

Fri, 04/17/2009 - 16:28

think the longer they take the more you want to play. if it comes out before its ready it will suck. let them take their time with swtor the wait will be worth it.

Fri, 12/05/2008 - 21:51

You want to wait another year? you are joking.

Sat, 11/29/2008 - 03:30

im a born to be and always will be a nerd, i am a freak bout star wars, no1 at my school likes me

Wed, 11/26/2008 - 16:42

Sat, 11/29/2008 - 03:28

i am a huge star wars fan, this is gonna be great! i never played star wars galaxies, was it good? is it worth buying? is the play like runescape or world of warcraft? i hope this new game will be like runescape(how u interact with other players)

Wed, 11/26/2008 - 21:11

ROFL thats a good point

Tue, 11/25/2008 - 21:14

u guys are sad wow how old are u ? like proberly 49

Sun, 11/23/2008 - 00:35

Yeah, Im with you Westan and Sithmaster, there are alot of us Swg players that left after to many changes. We've been off playing other games waiting for this day, heck I already canceled my eq2 subscription and saving the money to update my comp for this game when it comes out. That would be amazing though if it became as huge as everyone is hoping. They do it right, they will definatley have me for life. heh Now...we wait.../twittles thumbs hehe

Sun, 11/30/2008 - 16:32

The first 18 months of SWG was like pure joy, heck,I spent 22.5 hours straight grinding my TKA from zero to top,the day before the changes came.(what a waste)
We all knew that this game one day would come, and finally,it is coming.
Been going back and forth in MMO's,lastly,in AOC.(going under pretty fast)

And with Bioware at the helm, this should be better then good.(I hope)

Sun, 11/23/2008 - 02:17

I stopped playing SWG a few months ago. You're right, a lot of people, including myself, left because of a lot of the changes they were making. I started playing after the NGE, just before Chapter 6 came out. It was great for awhile, but the more they added, the more things started to go wrong. More bugs, more game crashes, it just lost its pizazz. I've been playing the Tabula Rasa MMO in recent months while i wait for KOTOR. Tabula Rasa is shutting its servers down in February 2009 (low population, they say). So... come on Bioware, make it good! =D

Sat, 11/22/2008 - 22:29

Sithmaster I'll agree with you. This game is looking amazing. With Bioware helping develop I wouldn't be surprised if World of Warcraft takes a big lost in the numbers of it's players.

Sat, 11/29/2008 - 00:54

I with every previoius SWG player here, I played it since before the NGE, but now its getting 1) old 2) boring 3) empty. All the changes they made, even with Aurillia and company, keep pepople leaving. Ill be glad to see it go.

Sat, 11/22/2008 - 20:32

personally, i think this game is going to be great anyway but if they do it right... this could be the world of warcraft killer... im telling you millions of people will leave wow in order to play this... call me crazy but i think it will happen

Sat, 11/22/2008 - 08:57

I was waiting for KOTOR3, and still will. BUT! This MMO is looking great, can't wait. Bioware + Lucasarts = Good game.

Fri, 11/21/2008 - 18:46

dude I was hoping that in the third one you would meet revan and find out more about what happend to him. If u beet kotor 2 once good and once evil (one of those times had to be a girl) when u go back to play a third time there are more conversations unlocked with all the charactors trust me they are worth it but I was just hoping to see revan again :'(

Sat, 11/22/2008 - 05:30

1. the game is set 500 years after KOTOR and 5,000 before the first series
2. Dont worry the emperor in this is supposed to have some likeness to Revan

Fri, 11/21/2008 - 14:52

BRING IT ON!!!! I can not wait for this game. I'm going nuts.....NUTS!!!!

Thu, 11/20/2008 - 21:50

When I heard about this...I flipped! Is it out yet!!!

Thu, 11/20/2008 - 15:46

i think this game is going to be great and i cant wait for it to come out

Thu, 11/20/2008 - 03:23

and if it is like a regular MMO. I hope they allow for combat during space travel with vehicles as well not just character combat.

Thu, 11/20/2008 - 03:20

Definitely looking forward to the game can not wait for BETA

Thu, 11/20/2008 - 01:56

agreed

Wed, 11/19/2008 - 19:35

For those of you complaining about this or that not being correct because of timeline issues. First off, bioware has always been good a telling a story in their game. They will make it as close to possible to whatever timelines they can. This game is a medium all in it's own and ventures greatly into a large portion of untold Star Wars lore. Second, they are still a game developer and making an amazing game is their TOP priority. I believe the Author of the Darth Bane novels said it best and I quote:

"I won't compromise my story just to make sure someone died at point X and not point Y unless that is relevant to character, theme, etc.

Does this make me a selfish jerk? Maybe, but then all artists suffer from the same selfishness. Look at the latest Batman movie - a completely different story is offered about Batman's origin (and the Joker's) than the one we saw in the first Tim Burton film. Does this mean one of the movies is "wrong"? Not by my standards - I loved them both. For me, they both rang true."

All things are reletive......from a certain point of view. This game will be amazing no matter what. Give them space, make constructive comments, and lets see where they bring this thing.

Wed, 11/19/2008 - 17:53

This is a fine update, the 1st (showing stuff) after the site went live I belive.
I really hope more will come on a regular basis, as this is so little for such a huge universe.

If I may suggest something... please show us the game in movement :D

Wed, 11/19/2008 - 16:18

im still waiting for a video

Tue, 11/18/2008 - 04:19

Yeah, I'm still waiting on the official newsletter. Perhaps something could go out if news/updates are added, like this one? That would be excellent!

Tue, 11/18/2008 - 03:01

just wondering... is this going to be more like a World Of Warcraft type game or Guild Wars... Both Great games but different... and this format would work good with both game types

Mon, 11/17/2008 - 20:37

i really want to read more news about the game.more screenshoots, and i really want to hear some info about my thread, about athmospheric flight.

hope we will be able to fly around the big scyscrapers and join the traffic in the air :)

really want to know about the combat development :)

and what the highest lvl will be.
