Hey all,

Our guild has been knocking our heads against Operator IX in TFB HM for a couple weeks now and was wondering if anyone can provide some insight or tips on this fight. We seem to consistently get to the cusp of the Orange/Purple phase.

Basically what happens is during the Orange phase our tanks are grabbing the champs/adds while the dps burns down the cores. Then in the beginning of the Purple phase we clean up the champs but no sooner do we do that when we hit the timer on the end of the purple phase (we understand we need to intentionally fail it) at which point another champ comes out to claim our souls.

I feel like we understand what we need to do as far as we've read and researched but we just keep getting overwhelmed at this point. Does anyone have any insight or tips on how to clear this?

As for gear we're all in Full BM and all have a couple pieces of Arkanian for our set bonuses. Many also have a couple pieces of Verpine as well.

Thanks for any suggestions you have!

taking skill out of the equation, SM TFB drops Arkanian gear, you may be undergear for HM
My new raid group puts dps on core and channeling and the healers and tanks takes out the adds, it work for us
My last group, puts a healer or tank (depending on the phase) on the channel and 1 dps on the midle to help burn the adds, so in the cores is only 3 dps and if needed the 2 healer can help dps the cores abit.

You problem is with the adds right?? try to put 1 dps on the midle to help with the big ones, and 1 tank on the channel, you want to burn the 1st one down before the 2 spawns, this way you have the 2 healers free to heal the tank and the group, if healers have the time they can do a litle bit of dps on the adds to help

Atleast this works for us

The way our guild does it is have a tank channeling during orange and yellow, while the other tank grabs the two champions. One of the DPS is in the middle while the tank channels, so 2 healers are up, and the dps in the middle (ranged) knocks down the champion adds.
When orange cores die, the dps who's on purple + whoever can, help kill the leftover add from orange.

Same setup during yellow, usually boss comes up with 1 or 2 champion adds up, everyone needs to kill the adds first.

Yup...this should be the setup:

Blue: Healer channeling, dps in mid
Orange: Tank channeling, dps in mid (preferably ranged if possible)
Purple: Healer channeling, dps in mid
Yellow: Tank channeling, dps in mid (preferably ranged if possible)

In the orange phase, tank grabs the champ brings him up agains the purple pillar just in case an end line is missed so u don't get booted to far away. When the 2nd champ comes out, you need to taunt him, break CC, pop cd while dps finishes first champ. Same goes for yellow

You can fail purple, clean up the champ then rechannel to finish purple. This is probably the only color you can/want to fail, if you fail orange or yellow champs will just keep coming. If you fail one of these colors, it's still doable, but you have to take down one champ (there will be two up if you fail) and immideately go finish the cores.

This is a very common problem you're having. I'd bet just about every raid team has had the same issues when they were learning the fight. One thing you'll learn is that unlike most other bosses there are many different strategies.

A dedicated dps in the center for all of phase 1 is a must. We do not have healers channel ever but that is a valid way to do it.

I definitely do not recommend "cleaning up" the adds after a color phase as you never really catch up. Do like the poster above said and try to kill the first big add right when the 2nd one spawns in orange. We actually have one tank hold both big adds in yellow and just heal our butts off and help with interrupts.

Also our strat does not involve failing any color but if you're going to fail one purple is the one to choose.

Yeah good point, there are several methods that work...the method I posted just gives you all 4 dps doing their jobs at all times and helps push phases faster...I've found that two healers are usually unnecessary during blue and purple phases so I like sticking them on channel duty. And if you ever plan to do NiM, I don't see any other combination really working very well. If you don't have 3 dps on cores and one in the middle at all times....it would get messy

Our setup is a bit different. Healing during phase 1 is not really all that demanding, as long as DPS smack something on their way between cores on blue phase. So we have a healer click during orange, with a DPS in the middle to kill the champions. We do not fail purple, intentionally or otherwise. :P

If you don't have strong enough tanks or healers to have one of them click during orange, and you feel you still need to fail purple intentionally, know that Rectifiers that spawn when you fail a phase have a 1.0s cast called "End of Line". It is EXTREMELY important that this be interrupted consistently.

We do it with a dps on the button at all times. Healing isn't that bad for phase one, so one healer primarily dps's adds with tanks and throws heals as needed. We kill big adds at the beginning of purple phase then dps cores until we fail, kill the pacifier, then finish dpsing cores.

If your problem is that you can't get the adds down fast enough to get back onto cores before you fail purple the first time, you may just need to get your dps a bit more gear.

If you are having trouble getting yellow down in time, it might be a good idea to make sure you have a set-up that allows all 4 dps on cores for that phase. It might also be a help to have one of your tanks run out and dps cores when there isn't anything there to tank.

We only have 1 DPS (one of our Gunslingers, or the Commando we sub in) stay in Mid (that's in addition to the DPS we have channeling) during Purple Phase to mop up the leftover Champions from Orange... the 50s should be more than enough to take down the both of them, he then makes a start on the other core..

In the meantime, our other 2 DPS make sure to kill at least 1 core (usually with ~10s left) and then again, make a start on the other core if there's time.

When the Purple fail Champion comes out, everyone leaps on him and then mops up the small Strongs that appear too.... once they're dead, finish off the 2nd Purple Core and have people in place to pick up Yellow Spheres.

Kill Yellow, Kill Boss, Grab Loot .

Wow! Thanks for all the great responses everyone! Sounds like we kinda had things backwards. We'll try out these strats tonight and figure out what works best for us. Feeling a lot better about this now =).
