Their a melee class, PTs are limited to the range they can cast their dots and abilities, why should these classes be any different being that they are melee too?

Technically, PT's can cast dots at 30, but only if they use rapid shots and proc the cgc (pyrotech spec). In that case, the limit is not really range, its rng.

Though its not that fair of a comparison because rail shot, which makes pyrotech click, has a 30 meter range, hits hard (~5k I heard), and is usable on anyone stunned or with any kind of dot. Let that sink in. If you have on your team, say a madness sorc, lethatity operative, etc, you can rail shot anyone they are dotting and still put the hurt on them. You gain a bonus from someone else's attacks.

Compare with lethality operative, which is the operative dot spec. The heavy hitter is cull, with a 10 meter range and which only hurts if the agent using it has applied both corrosive dart and corrosive grenade already. That is to say, it doesn't matter if there is another dotter on your team, the operative still has to apply both the dots on the target to get their burst. If there is another lethality agent on the team, its still does not pan out because the game keeps track of who is applying the dots so as to make sure cull gains a bonus only from the same player who applied corrosive dart and corrosive grenade. On top of that, cull requires tactical advantage, which is somewhat tough to generate for lethality operatvies (i.e. shiv, killing someone).

If you don't believe me, try lethality operative a bit. They don't have it easier than pyrotech powertechs.
PvE theorycrafting has really loosened their standards.

Because powertechs can grapple their enemy to them and operatives/scoundrels can't.

Now a question for you: Why is it that you see way more powertechs in PvP than you do dps operatives?
CE VIP Remember when this was a big deal?

Lethality Operatives aren't just a melee class, they are a skirmishing class, having both melee and ranged. Their burst damage is limited to melee already. In fact, PTs play the same way, except are about 10x easier.

Fine I'm okay with sacrificing my DoT that does about 2300 damage over 21 seconds if you're willing to sacrifice your 30m rail shot that can be an instant 6000 damage, sound fair?

Lethality operative rotation is a total pain in the butt in pvp. 30m dots, that are only effective if you use your 10m cull, that can only be used after your 4m Shiv.

PTs can proc their railshot reset from 10m with slightly less regularity than their 4m ability.
A classic sig that should not be lost:
