Improving space combat

Already posted this on the facebook page, but I think it'll get some more notice here. I have an idea and it involves space, there is so much you can do with this, yet so little there has been done. Mainly my idea starts out with letting other players "crew" your vessel during space missions. One player can pilot, one monitors systems, one can be there to repair damaged systems or there can be an astromech droid, and two players can man missiles and lasers. Once that has been established you can work on adding a pvp element to space combat. It could be a wide open space or an asteroid field. It could even be above a planet. An idea I had in particular is that you can just set up an empty region of space where crews could fly their ships and engage other players. I'd even go as far as to suggest that if you pursue and disable another player's ship then you could be able to board it and raid it for whatever. If a player loses in space then the ship wouldn't blow up, it would just be sitting there without power for a few minutes until say the empire or republic picks them up and brings them back to either the home planet or the closest planet in the area.
