I would rather have my ship droid die.

Shivalka: Darth Baras is quite large, isn't he?
Joran Karn: You, my dear Sith, have just mastered the art of understatement.

Makes you wonder why these guys want to throw Kiera under the bus.

your hold on the Light is stronger just like any redeemed Jedi.

These facts imply that story-wise, the death of Kira shouldn't necessarily lead to a fall to the Dark Side, rather to many possible and different consequences (from a fall to the Dark Side to nothing at all). Many could be happy/find it interesting but many would also be angry at BioWare.
The fact that many Jedi have seen a loved one's demise doesn't mean most them must.
The way the game is structured today, I don't think it allows for Companions to be lost, "deleted".
This is not an accurate evaluation of the Chapter 2 ending

Well, your spoiler is the best NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO moment in the game already. Why have another one? Especially one involving Kira. She's the ONLY LI for the male Knight, and she's awesome!

Am I the only one that gets the feeling that Rusk would actually be happy about dying? He's not suicidal by any means but he does have no concept of his own mortality and does seem the type to want to die going up in a huge blaze of glory.

I missed out on flirting with her entirely, thus I actually WANT her to live.

If Kira died, I would stop playing my JK. She is hands-down my favourite companion in the game.
Next comes Vette, but she's still a long ways off.
