What does "Power" do?

So i got a weapon that gives +5 power, but i dont know what it does.

Hover over the stat on your character sheet

I dont see Power on the character sheet.

Power improves base damage. If you are a healer, it also improves healing.

You may need to change what you are looking at. Note that the lower sections have options to select different things... Ranged damage, melee damage, defense, etc.

What about the other character stats? I have scoured the forums and database trying to find explanations on each of the basic stats, but have had no luck. Some are pretty obvious, like strength, willpower, aim, etc. Although a more specific explanation of what each does for your toon would be nice. But what about Alacrity, Cunning, stats like that? If somebody can point me in the right direction, that would be Wunderbar.

Cunning you can hover over, it increases Tech damage IIRC though.

Alacrity is a little hard to find in the stats since it's not listed directly. It decreases spell cast time.
