3 Hours and counting on Lorta Escort

So, reached the Heroic Space Missions, upgraded to Grade 7 parts (nowt else to spent my CC on really) and I tried from what I read the easiest one of the lot, Lorta Escort. That was roughly three hours ago.

I've watched the Dulfy and Nefash guides several times and despite following them to the second, in certain sections they come through fine, my ship looks like it has been through a JG Ballard novel. I just seem to get blasted to pieces no matter what I do. I survived barely once by hitting power to shields and not firing a single shot. Of course, that meant I didn't kill the objectives.

Not sure what to add really, apart from my right hand is knackered from manically trying to swerve the ship around and I'm feeling a bit dejected (and really quite fed up of the space combat music, god I hope they change it in the expansion).

Would I really miss anything if I just called them a day and ignored them? Seems like a stressful waste of time and effort to me when I could be doing other things.

I know I did - ignore them that is. And since the rewards are not that great anymore (nerfed a while back), there is even less incentive to bang my head into that durasteel wall.

Yes these are tricky. I have completed all of them thankfully and I have realised that the trick with this is ignore any bonus mission items. You goal is the primary goals of the mission and avoiding fire. Switch quickly between power to weapons and power to shields, don't fire when you don't need to and when not firing, switch to power to shields. Avoiding the fire while this is on and not firing means your shields are mostly taking the hits.

It took me a while to do some of these missions and there are some, where you need to attack the objectives the second you see them as sometimes you don't always get the right amount of time, missiles and guns on the primary objectives. Proton Torpedos as soon as you can lock on do it.

Learn how to use your keyboard to fly the ship as well as your mouse, that way you can still lock on your weapons and move out of the way, or keep moving, that takes a little practice.

Yeah, Mike ^^ has the gist of it. Avoid any unnecessary bonus and switching power converter between shots has to become second nature; find your bind keys to make it easier. I took several runs through on all of them and even now it sometimes takes me a few failed runs to complete them.

As for any reason to do them, I think the weekly mission status tend to take the fun out of them. Once you have completed them the first time the individual missions become a weekly, not a daily, mission. This means that, if you are like me and use space missions as an escape from the planetary and flashpoint missions, can't just jump in and spend a while trolling through them and expect any reward.... I've started to collect the missions for an entire week then cashing in later.
