What's the point of MVP points ?

What I originally thought was an excellent idea and something that separated TOR from other MMO games appears to be of little to no use at all. I was under the impression that it would unlock some sort of new vanity gear, vehicle, or provide a new title, if you got X number of MVP points, instead nothing.

Can anyone tell me what is the point of having MVP points ?

As far as I can tell, it's another wasted opportunity for this game.

That's a GREAT idea! They should do that.

I think it would be better if the titles/vanity gear/etc. was awarded for doing certain things. Like, just as an example in the cod games if you get 250 headshots with a certain gun you unlock the fall cammo for it, three knife kills in a row gets you an emblem, and killing someone while stunned with a flashbang gets you another one, etc.

Could be something like going over 500k damage/healing gets you a title or defusing 100 bombs on voidstar gets you an adaptive pair of those awesome agent goggles, etc.

So much potential.

You should research the MVP vote system that I have expressed multiple times. Then you can gain some understanding on what it originally meant versus what it means now.

To let you know who has the most friends in the warzone mostly.

This.

Had two "in the zone" WZ's last night where I was just getting objectives left right and centre along with having a high amount of damage and some healing thrown in for good luck.

Unfortunately on both occasions I was with teams of "friends". The premade 4 all voted for one another and there were another couple of reciprocated votes.

I no longer have any interest in the MVP voting.

I either vote for the lowest ranked member or the one who healed the most. Either that or a specific person who impressed me.

Typically though I only see people voting for the those in their group no matter how crap they are.

My issue isn't MVP though but medals. The balance of contribution that push up your medals is based entirely too much on disparity of work. A pure healer can get crap medals but by far the most healing. Same is true for dps specialists. The latest example is with my gunslinger where I topped damage by a huge margin over everyone else on map yet only had mid ranged medals. This was due to trying to keep range around the objective and being just outside the range of contribution which borked my end results even though I was highly effective during the game.

Some classes suffer greatly map to map because of the blanket contribution system. Once again if you aren't melee or playing within melee range you tend to get screwed.

I must admit I am falling into the ever growing crowd of players getting upset over how melee focuses this game has become. I am not sure why Bioware takes so long to address issues everyone on message boards and in game is complaining about. Class balance should not be part of X.x patch in the future but within every single patch update and outside content scheduling. Players currently have the time to level a new fotm toon and end game gear them before Bioware even officially addresses any issues at all. This is obscene.

Woot! 1 comm and 62 valor points FTW!

I have 3 50's, one VL 96, another VL 89, and another VL 71, and they all have close to or over 1000 MVP votes each. Man, if I didn't have those MVP votes, then they would only be at exactly the same VL they are now...

That's 1000 comms, you can buy a few things with that. :o

If they make the value of MVP votes any more significant people will just vote trade with their friends. As it stands now most people might toggle the damage numbers or healing or objective and give it to one of those guys at the top (a nice nod that you are doing well) and that is the purpose of an MVP vote. Don't wanna ruin it 'cause then there will be threads about how MVP voting has gone down the drain.

So for now MVP votes are really nothing more than a meassure of the size of your E-peen. And because that's the case I think everybody here already knows that I have the biggest.

MVP helps a lot. When you get naught MVP for working your *** off defending a node/planting *ALL* bombs or warning peeps constantly of incoming attack you finally know it's best to be left to others and go and and smash/heal instead. As you, my group-aiding friend, are ignored. Edited by Kyanzes

I don't vote anymore as the only thing people seem to reward in my WZ's is highest damage. I saw one guy get 5 vote because he did topped damage.

Problem is he only got 4 total kills and no killing blows because he was mindlessly attacking targets that were being healed.

MVP simply rewards stupidity and encourages further stupidity from those that are under the impression they are doing the right thing because they got votes.

Unless I'm pvping with someone I know I'm not even interested in receiving comms from anyone let alone awarding them anymore.

I'm pretty sure it's to make the people who didn't get any MVP votes feel bad and physcologically make them want to PvP more so they aren't bad anymore, therefor leading to longer Subscriptions meaning more cash for Bioware, and decreasing WZ Queue times, therefor making the playerbase happy. I don't like the people that trade mvp votes with their guildy they queued up with even if they sucked. Generally on my healer I have no problems getting atleast 1 vote. I'll usually try to vote for the next highest healer or sometimes the guy with the most protection. It's only 1 comm per vote so it doesn't really matter anyways. I've noticed the guy with the most medals usually ends up getting mvp votes, that never really made sense to me. All you need for top medals is to play a utility class i.e. any tank. ... or sometimes the guy with the most protection....

And we tanks who try to actually tank appreciate that. :)

Hey wait! Heh, heh. But you are totally right. I can start a game in HB, run out to the middle, get focus fired 'cause I'm the only one who actually noticed the enemy ball carrier (the rest deathmatching I guess), die in about 5 seconds, and... what do you know... I have 3 medals somehow. :D

MVP - I vote "my" healer if we seem to do well. If I don't have a healer to guard I vote whoever effectively lead the team via chat (I don't mean obnoxiously calling out how bad everyone is, but someone who actually effectively *leads* the team), because that's so rare. Or I'll vote the guy who backfilled and stayed to play all of 1 minute of a hopeless match, because I've been that guy all too often. So in that last case the purpose of the MVP is sort of as an "I'm sorry you had to get into this sucky game because someone else quit the match early".

It's a pointless system for a couple of reasons:

* Premades are often only voting for their own members, this regardless of performance.

* People lack the situational awareness required to make a correct decision. I get a ton of votes when I have top dps but top ds usually means that I wasnt as focused on the objective as other members of my team. Do I really deserve those votes? I personally don't think so because I also know what it's like to play operative or assassin and actually take or guard nodes but never recieve any votes, on behalf of not having time to pad my stats when I'm focused on the objective the entire game.

i also received 4-5 mvp votes(was solo) for top dmg in a hypergates wz although the enemies washed the floor with our team, the enemy had 3 healers and 2 tanks and we really couldn`t break their hold on mid their dps was low but their team was almost unkillable. At the end of it i did 340k dmg with 13 kills and 10 deaths(they really started to focus me on the 2nd half as i was always after 1 of the healers) while 2nd top dmg was a jedi knight with 320k dmg 45 kills and 2 deaths, none of my teammates we re over 100k dmg was it wrong for me to receive votes?

You get 1 extra warzone comm per MVP vote, so the reward is that plus the warm, fuzzy feeling you get from knowing your teammates adore you. Or perhaps pity you.

Funny you mention the pity part, because my marauder gotten a more votes as a struggling fresh 50 than it does now, fully BiS WH geared. Actually, votes are harder to come by now, even in wz's where I top damage by a large margin. I sometimes think the resentment towards smash players could be one reason for that.
