If you preorder the game and go to your account/games page (or look a the background on the information page) you see the concept poster for the expansion. Since none of the characters on the original box art were playable, it's unlikely these two are meant to represent PCs either.

Could they be new companions? Perhaps even temporary ones?

Could just be new NPCs that play a role on Makeb.

No idea but I want them to put that gunslingers hairstyle in-game.

If they aren't going to put in long hair, they could at least put in variations of hair type 3 without the hair covering the left eye.

I dare to say that they might be canon Smuggler and a Sith Warrior.

And no, I don't know what could be, maybe the "canon" SW and Smug. Or one of all the sith we see in the academy and one of many smugs, or like many think, they will give quest for theirs side. I don't know yet.

They are more then likely just the main NPCs(or one of) that we meet.

I wouldn't call them "canon", but they seem to be a representation of possible PC characters. The game's boxart has similar ones for a Jedi Knight, Bounty Hunter, Trooper.

No. Those are known NPCs from the game's backstory.
The jedi is the guy that gets killed by Malgus during the Sacking of Coruscant-trailer. Shae Vizla, the Bounty Hunter chick, is also present.
The trooper is in the Alderaan trailer, together with Satele.

Ah, I didn't know that.

Thanks for the clarification. Then I guess these two could be characters in the storyline for the expansion.
