TrumpetNut
Hi there! I am going to level a character with a RL friend and want to know what a good leveling adv-class is. I do not like spamming an ability too much. One of the below: 1. Commando, Heals or Dps 2. Sage, Dps 3. Scoundrel, Heals or Dps 4. Guardian Tank My friend will be choosing something I reccomend probably. Thanks for the help!

TrumpetNut
I have a Vanguard at 44. I want to have a class that can kill fast and <Maybe> have Healing capability. This character would be unlike my other characters in that I won't skip convos on reular quests like I have with alts. It will be soloely for story and questing content. If it ends up being a stealth-able class then it will not or should not be part of the decision due to the fact I don't stealth past most stuff. Also having the healing capability can be useful in H2+ or H4's. So maybe sorc, Commando, or Scoundrel? Thanks! Please when you answer add backup to it not just "Trooper is easy." like the first poster. Thanks again for the help! ps is commando a good leveler that one im really not sure what it's about leveling wise. (I leveled my merc by PvP)
MikeFL
Based on your last post, go with a Jedi Knight. The story is widely said to be one of the best in this game. I can personally vouch for its coolness and fun factor. You can go Guardian for damage or tanking, or Sentinel if you want pure raw damage. Since you will be leveling with your friend, he could play a Sage/Commando/Scoundrel to heal you and add in extra dps. (Personally recommend Sage, their bubble goes really well with Jedi tanking, but each of those classes heals well).
_biddan_
if you don't mind starting on different planets the best duo is scoundrel healer with shadow tank. Edited January 6, 2013 by _biddan_
TrumpetNut
Actually I was going to play the dps/heal class my friend was going to go dps or tank lol we want to start on the same planet. I'm strongly thinking of going into scoundrel but is the smuggler story good? My friend will almost certianly go into jedi knight likely guardian. Story is going to be a huge factor. I really find it amusing popping outa stealth and shotgunning ppl in the back. Healing is supposed to be very good on the scoundrel too. So i'm now looking at Scoundrel heal or dps vs a jedi knight either AC my friend will maybe start on a different planet but il go and get ahead to help him get to a higher lvl (10) and go to corescant. Thoughts?

MantorokTwelve
If you don't like spamming an ability, you'd HATE sage dps. 70% of your rotation is spamming rock throw

TrumpetNut
So I think sage would be fine w me but how about this list: Lightning sage Gunnery/heal Commando Scrapper scoundrel Friend is a guardian.
MantorokTwelve
Sage is either telekinetic throw spam (balance) or disturbance spam (telekinetics).
TrumpetNut
Sage is either telekinetic throw spam (balance) or disturbance spam (telekinetics). Yet it is fun? Do you feel like it is fun although it is spammy? Same q with Commando btw
Segastorm
I can vouch and say telekenetics is an interesting tree. But if you want a guardian's friend, from the choices you pick, I'd go Commando (warning, many say they can be very bad in pvp), or scoundrel if you wanna heal (dps isn't very good imo). Edit: because telekenetics isn't just disturbance spam, and if that's how you play it, you're doing it wrong (once you get past lvl 25 anyway) Edited January 7, 2013 by Segastorm
TrumpetNut
So let me get it straight....If I am leveling up with a friend who is playing a Jedi Guardian than I should play a__________(Commando or sage Scoundrel is ruled out I don't want to play one)? Telekinetics isn't as spammy as I thought, Commando.....Is it good in PvE/leveling? I have seen firsthand how pititful the PvP w them is just spam grav round the whole time and get killed in 4 hits. How is the commando in PvE/leveling like I said above. And are there Effective and fun ways to play a commando without just spam, spam, spam, spam while leveling? Kitru
Commando.....Is it good in PvE/leveling? Commando does an excellent job of doing PvE and leveling and, if you don't want to run Gunnery, you can just do Assault Specialist for a different playstyle (it does slightly worse DPS than Gunnery, but it isn't just a lot of Grav Round spam with Full Auto and HiB breaks every once in a while). Of course, I think it should be mentioned that there isn't really a class that *doesn't* level well, given the proper spec, especially if you've got a leveling buddy (which pretty much means that, as long as you don't double up tank or heals, you're golden). Even though Scoundrels do terrible DPS at 50 and are pretty much worthless except as healers, you can level quite happily as a Scrapper (this is what I did, even post nerf; it was genuinely fun and amusing mainly because your burst DPS was functional and useful because fights didn't last longer than 10 seconds). Commandos are terrible at PvP, but they're a great class to level (since they're the Repub class that gets their healer the earliest). I had a lot of fun leveling my Commando as heals (Hammer shot is both a heal and an attack, not to mention you get all of the delicious Commando AoEs to make leveling a breeze). My Sage went up as the Balance hybrid which, while it was a lot of TkT spam, that wasn't *everything* about it: TkT is just your "basic" attack that you use while you're waiting for other abilities to get off of CD (Force in Balance), your DoTs to run out so that they need to be reapplied (Weaken Mind), and your procs to activate (Presence of Mind for instant Mind Crush or Disturbance). It should also be noted that, while leveling, a lot of the time you'll be using Forcequake to demolish entire packs of standards.
SandsOfArrakis
Play what you like I think. I mean. Leveled up my Sage as healer. And while questing, and doing dailies at 50, I just send in Nadia to round up a group. Then go to town using Force Quake. Rest of the mobs get a rock in their face. That's basically it. Just add a dot here and there. And you have the Sage playstyle. Quite boring to be honest. Compared to this, the Shadow and Scoundrel are better. Shadow is basically whacking at mobs with your lightsaber with some rockthrowing as backup. Scoundrel has quite a few diffrent options. My Scoundrel is level 19 and has just finished Coruscant. The storyline so far is awesome with a lot of backstabbing, bravado etc. All you would expect from Smugglers. The Consular story is pretty meh compared to that. I'm leveling as Sawbones (healer). Might not be the fastest killer. But I find it to be a fun class. Back blasting (with Corso tanking), thermal grenades. Some nice healing to keep Corso running. Next level finally a good hot. I'm happy. "Sihaya Irulan, Smuggler. Backblasting and dirty kicking her way through Coruscant's scum and villany"
TrumpetNut
So. Commando vs. Sage. That's going to be the final thing. Both spam. Both heal. Both are ranged. Both suck as PvPers.
Segastorm
If you're starting from lvl 1, go sage. Just take a pick if you're starting on coruscant. Commando dps in pve is just plain better than sage dps towards the end, and about even mid-game. I'd personally say commando, they're interesting healers and dps.
