Yes and no, Anakin lost the potential to become the greatest ever. However he still became much stronger, then his pre-suit self and was speculated by Palpatine that if he accepted what he had become then he would reach said potential...it was all pretty much a mind game that Anakin never won.

To be fair, he was a cool character when he was first introduced.

I always thought Grevious should have been Darth Maul after his halving.

He's also a BAMF in the novelization. The movie just ****ed up and made him look like a weezing coward, which thus ruined him overall.
