Where the heck is the blaster rifle?

No OP you are not the only one to complain about this. Many of us that were here pre-launch were wondering why a company that was marketing this game as "relive you Boba Fett fantasy" would put such stringent weapon restrictions in the game. Force Sensitives should be able to choose whatever lightsaber they feel comfortable with and non-force sensitives should have a choice of pistol, carbine or rifle. We were rebuffed by the rabid fanboys, most of whom are no longer with us, who parroted the company line. It was a bad design decision pure and simple. Every poll done back then on this sight showed that the majority preferred having a choice of a rifle. We were ignored. Sorry, but we did try. Edited by oslek

It's the outcome of building a theme park game rather than a more open sandbox style game. It's a good game but it's to restrictive and due to the restrictions it loses one of the main things people loved about star wars, the diversity of races, classes and the galaxy.

Bounty hunters have the opposite problem Troopers and Agents have.

To be honest, any class that can use a Rifle - should use a pistol... and vice versa. Both weapons require zero training to use, to the same effect.

Trust me. All starwars blasters can't shoot for [edit] ... unless they are specialised, like the sniper rifles.

Wow, I'm late getting to this post. This is the #1 thing that pisses me off the most regarding bounty hunters. You'd think it would have been common sense to implement blaster rifles into the class, but no. I'm with the others here who find it confusing considering that almost every famous bounty hunter we can think of besides Jango Fett uses some variation of a blaster rifle, yet we cannot. Sometimes, I feel like I'm using pop cap guns when I'm thinking about how much cooler it'd be with a blaster rifle.

COME ON BIOWARE, PLEASE! Fix this. Hell, if we can't have blaster rifles, give us carbines? We want to live that Star Wars fantasy based off what's familiar to us in the Star Wars universe, and this is (for my part) a large step.

(yeah, why the hell can't troopers use pistols either? HELLO, they use a pistol in almost every cut scene where a gun is whipped out. Come on!)

Its how they wanted weapon distribution to work.

Agent and Smuggler. Smug uses pistols, agent uses rifles. Otherwise, mirror class.

Trooper and Bounty Hunter. Trooper uses rifles, Bounty Hunter uses pistols. Otherwise, mirror classes.

Makes sense, but I still dont like the whole heavy armor and pistol thingy (nor do I like the concept of the Gunslinger, Scoundrel is okay I guess) So I am not gonna even make a BH, gonna stick with a Trooper. If they make a Powertech tree use a rifle, I may very well change my mind on the matter, though.

I don't find it embarressing, but then again, I managed to find a pistol that makes me look like I'm compensating for something.

I'll go ahead and voice my opinion on the matter though. Due to the playstyle of the Powertech, pistols are actually ideal for the kind of close-quarters fighting we find ourselves in. For longer-range fighting, I wouldn't mind having a blaster rifle, but for the extreme close quarters I find myself in, pistols are a godsend. They allow you to maneuver during melee combat, and pistols are more 'environment friendly' in the fact that they don't have a lot of bulk to deal with when making tight turns in starships and buildings.

While I would love to see blaster rifles become a viable option (perhaps a particular specialization tree for Powertech and/or Mercenary?), I can see why the developers wanted Powertechs in particular to carry a pistol.

Trust me, there's some awesome looking pistols in this game.

And you think carrying a cannon as a commando in close quarters most of the time makes sense? It's supposed to be a SQUAD SUPPORT WEAPON not the primary issue of the entire squad!

Not to say I wont pull out my rifle for RP purposes clearing rooms, corridors, etc. But ultimately, you need to put into perspective, that even a BH who knows he's going in for a KILL, wouldn't hesitate to even take a cannon into the room for a target-rich environment.

I have yet to level my BH (next on the list), but I was under the impression that you DO bring a cannon into a target-rich environment. And a flamethrower. And a rocket launcher. And a thermal detonator...

Its now time to implent it... A bountyhunter (PT) without rifle is like a Jedi without a saber... How can it even have been designed like this... The PT has one gun?? come on... Rifle, assault cannon and two guns is nice... but one gun? NO! just feels weak...

and no other classes dont need to have more weapons just cause of this... just the PT that needs somthing bigger then a stupid gun!!

Makes no sence at all..

This is how the layout should be

Vanguard: Rifle

Commando: Cannon

PowerTech: Rifle

Merch: Two guns

So will be on trooper Vanguard until PT gets a Rifle....

I have to agree. For all the bounty hunter's flare, they stick with a rinky dink piece? Screw that! Damnit, I wish this thread was in the suggestions box. The Dev's (not the forum admins though) are probably completely oblivious to this thread. Back on topic... I think it would be best if the trooper and the bounty hunter started with the ability to use blaster rifles and pistols. The reason why BHs need rifles is apparent in this post, but if anyone here has played through the trooper storyline, then they know as well as I do how often the character whips out his pistol sidearm instead of his/her rifle/cannon. It's like the gun you HAVE but never get to USE. It makes just as much sense for the trooper to get the addition as it does the BH. COME ON!!!

If Powertech were more gadget sure but now its like Merch just with one gun and a grapple..

Honestly i don't see the big deal about BH's wanting rifles we got rockets , flamethrowers & damn hell even knives & our bloody fists as a weapon.... i just don't see the point in adding rifles towards our class u want rifles go either operative or trooper....

Because it's iconic to the class maybe?

Like this guy, and this guy, and this guy, and let's not forget about this random bounty hunter. Oh, and there's this ****** as well who ended up becoming Mandalore. A lot of bounty hunters used pistols as well, including some of those hunters listed above in their early years. Just... keep in mind that we're not asking to replace the pistols, but we just want the option to chose the hardware. If your fine with things the way they are, then what are you really doing in this thread in the first place? And why does anyone come into a thread to say "Everything is fine here"? We're just expressing our desire to see an addition to the class(es), and it's no skin off your back. :D

I will admit, it is kinda weird seeing a Body Type 3 Powertech, running around with just a single pistol. But then the ability usage would be unchanged and would look kinda weird with a Blaster Rifle, as most of the abilities don't even involve the weapon being used. But I guess the same argument goes with the pistol as well. Either way, BioAustin should think about the possibility of letting Powertech's use Blaster rifles. But then they run into the dilemma of what to give Vanguards as a second weapon option.

Pistols... I mean troopers use pistols A LOT in their cut scenes, but you never actually get to use it as a trooper. What would be weird is seeing half your explosive and elemental shots come out of the end of a pistol, but it's no more weird than seeing it come out of a rifle. I got one barrel on my trooper's rifle, but out of this one barrel comes laser bolts, arcs of electricity, explosive mortars, high impact slugs, and napalm shots (incendiary rounds). Makes all kinds of sense don't it? No, I was being sarcastic there.

You know, as much as I'd like to use a carbine all Fett style, a pistol actually kinda fits for the PT. Primarily because most of your arsenal is contained in that swiss army knife gauntlet on your left arm. A pistol is quick to draw, maneuverable, lightweight - everything you need to shoot that force bunny hopping Jedi in the back like a pro.

That said, there *are* some blaster models which could be carbines for all intents and purposes. One even looks like a sawed-off carbine, forgot the name, but it's there. Yeah, you still shoot them with one hand, but with body type 3 it doesn't look weird.

I believe that blaster is the EE-1. While the models not exactly 100% accurate, you can tell it drew it's inspiration from the E-11 rifles that Stormtroopers used as well as... here's the REAL kicker.... During Boba Fett's later years, he almost exclusively used a modified sawed off EE-3 rifle, which is where the in game version derives.

Now considering where the gun's most noticeable history in the lore resides (with Fett), it's almost like spit in the face from the devs that other bounty hunters can't use it. You don't make a weapon like that and not expect other bounty hunters to want to use it. Just thinking about it pisses me off. Anyways, to the above quoted person, I understand completely what your saying about the pistol making SOME sense. But it doesn't need to be written in law that it's the bounty hunters only choice in weaponry, when so many iconic figures in the "past" (future in this case) were known for the fearsome weapons they carried.

I can't remember the name of the bounty hunter who used that sexy hunk of a rifle called the T-21... Anyways, carbines at the absolute lease would be adequate.

well as far as I know, every Bounty Hunter has used as many different weapons as he could - anything to give him an advantage. Some used primarily pistols, some rifles, some snipers, few even melee weapons (overly confident..).

Just look at this list of IG-88's weapons.. and that's "just" assassin droid doing some bounties in his free time between trying to take over the world:

Flamethrower

Pulse cannon

DAS-430 electromagnetic projectile launcher

Repeating blaster

Sonic stunner

Paralysis cord

Poison gas

Trilon gas

Thermal detonators

Needle dart gun

Butcher vibroblade

Concussion grenade

Throwing flechettes

Trifaraleen gas

Wide-dispersal radiation grenades

Blaster reflective palms

Cutting laser in finger on right arm

(and the moments right before he "died" the last time (2 of his bodies were destroyed by Bobba Fett and third by Dash Rendar) he could control whole Death Star II - including friggin superlaser, pity that it got destroyed virtually few seconds after he uploaded himself to take control, therefore his AI was destroyed with it, leaving his droid body empty)

Conclusion, I'd love to see Mercs (PTs don't really matter because they never actually use the gun anyway - they use just flamethrower, darts, missiles and cannon) with Rifle, I'd also love to see Vanguards and Commandos with dual Pistols (Commander Rex style) - mainly because 99% Assault Cannons are so freakish big they clip into half body

its not like force users can wield other weapons apart from a sabre .....

oh they can

their arsenal includes sabres , normal looking swords , axes and any number of vibroswords

easy to see where the time was spent , it is crappy Bh's cant wield rifles or carbines

Huh, I never really gave the Jedi a second thought, but your absolutely right. It doesn't measure up with other classes. Rifles and carbines JUST... MAKE... SENSE... for the BH. Carbines and pistols make sense for the Trooper. Someone up above mentioned going dual pistols all Commader Rex style, and that's something I would just absolutely love to do (he was real bad *** with those pistols in both the series and miniseries of clone wars). It really is frustrating to have our options so limited, and this is something I hope that eventually the devs will take serious. They need to not only expand the game as they have been doing, but ENHANCE it as well. Here's to hoping!
