Easiest (Republic) PvE class for casual player?

Yoooooooooooooo

Recommended Posts

Honestly, play what you find fun and it will feel less grindy than anything else. Also, certain classes will feel grindier at different points. For example, my Scoundrel healer was a dream to level until about 25, then became really painful until 30 and was easy street after that. My Shadow (well Assassin, still leveling the Shadow again) tank was a pain until about 35 but was a breeze after 40. My Vanguard (again, actually a PT, still leveling the VG) was a breeze to level using Shield Tech until about 30 when it felt really sluggish and then respecced to Pyro and it was a breeze all over again, at low levels, the huge amount of AoE just melts trash pulls so its real fast. My Guardian tank was stoic and slow but never felt tedious. Sniper (Gunslinger mirror) felt pretty clunky early on, but didn't feel grindy at any point.

If you like leaping in and killing stuff: Go Sentinel or Guardian.

If you like shooting thing from afar: Go Gunslinger or Commando

If you like stealth and backstabbing or shotguns to the back of the head: Go Shadow or Scoundrel

If you like casting: Go Sage

If you like shocking things with a taser and hitting them with your rifle: Go Vanguard

If you like healing: Go Sage, Scoundrel or Commando

If you like tanking/being hard to kill: Go Guardian, Vanguard or Shadow

I should add one amendment from above. Scoundrel/Shadow DPS aren't very solo friendly because they need to be behind the target for their big hits and mobs auto rotate to face you. So either run with a tank companion that can taunt or group up. That said, Scoundrel animations are the best in the game IMO (followed closely by Death From Above), nothing matches pulling out a shotgun, placing it to the back of someone's head and blowing their brains out.

EDIT:

Also, in terms of story: Jedi Knight or Smuggler are great. Consular is all diplomacy so it's low action but has a lot of impact on the war overall. I've yet to get my Trooper past Coruscant so I can't comment on that story.

Commando is by far the weakest class when it comes to both damage and healing.

Commandos are excellent DPS and have the best single target burst healing in PvE. Don't listen to uninformed people giving bad advice.

gunslinger, easy big numbers always. PvE wise is good as you provide really strong dps no matter the spec and good utility.

End game PvE gunslinger is best dps class in my opinion.

Good range so can stay out of boss aoes - (melee would get affected by). Is able to always keep damage on boss, even whilst moving. Has good defences for boss fights (dodge and shield) more than enough whilst at range (+ damage reduction from cover).

Good utility in scrambling shield + flash grenade for mobs.

Flourrish shot - reduces armour for all party for x seconds (sorry forgotten how many)

- Cons

Energy management, learn to do it effectively then it becomes easy..

This is so far from being true this has to be a troll post.

I've leveled at least 1 of each republic class to 50 so my summary would be like this...

Smuggler - best story, survivability varies by spec, scoundrel has decent survivability due to access to heals, stealth and CC, Gunslinger less so due to lack of a humanoid CC, no heals and no healing companion until late game

Jedi Knight - 2nd best story, mediocre survivability because of good DPS, but lack CC and healing companion til late

Jedi Consular - 3rd best story, good survivability because of early healing companion and tools like stealth, CC and heals depending on the spec you play

Trooper - Worst story (still good, just not as good as the others IMO), great survivability due to getting healing companion early, heavy armor and either CC or tanking abilities depending on spec

Story quality is totally my opinion, and I'm sure some would disagree with my rankings. All the stories are good, this was just my rankings of which one I liked the best.

Hey, i'm not really here for competing against others; just wanna sit back and go through a story without much grinding etc?

Any suggestions as to what republic class I should play

Least grind? Go with a stealth class, which means either a shadow or scoundrel.

Scoundrel healers are pretty good, if that appeals to you. Shadows also get their healer pet fairly early, and since you can spec for tank, they can be very durable.

The easiest is probably a vanguard trooper specced as assault specialist. The skill rotation is very simple and strong and you get your healing companion pretty early. The story is good as well.

The smuggler story is the funniest in the game. A dps scoundrel has stealth and a simple rotation as well. You don't get your healer comp until. 4/5 of the way through.

If you play a scoundrel dps properly there is never a need for a healer just a tank, you burst in let the tank grab aggro then start finishing things off one by one, as well as occasionally throwing an offheal (underworld medicine, spec 2 points into it) to keep ur tank up and give you an extra stack of upper hand.

That's it right there. Although you can solo more content if you play a healer character.

They're not pets, dammit, they're companions!

That said, NoFishing is spot on here. Stealth is amazing, every time I go back to leveling my Op or Shadow I wonder how I played fifty levels of Guardian without it. And which companions you get when makes a huge difference to ease of leveling. By that metric, Shadow is probably the best choice; you get stealth, and you get your (skeezy, horrible, but mechanically superior) healer very early. Your resource is the most straightforward and easy to manage as well, and you get an awesome speed buff cooldown that will make life so much easier during those long indoor areas where speeders aren't permitted.

That said, a lot of people don't care for the class story, and the animations are uniformly terrible. Smuggler is the better option on both counts, there, and Sawbones Scoundrel + Corso is just as potent as Kinetic Shadow + Theran if you want to solo heroics.

Either Trooper AC is also a really solid choice, since the rotations are straightforward, itemizing your team is blindingly simple, and you get your first DPS, first tank, and healer on the first four planets. You spend a lot more time killing trash mobs than with a stealth class, but you've got the best AoE in the game, so it goes pretty quick regardless. Good story, too, with a better use of LS/DS than most of the Republic classes IMO.

I'm with everyone else here that's recommending Stealth and here's the reason why:

In any RPG there are just going to be some of those areas that I call "Pound of Flesh" areas. I call them that because it takes about a pound of flesh in order to get anywhere. These areas- no matter what the game is always go- take two steps... major fight.... heal up..... take two steps.... major fight.... heal up.... crud, can't quit because I'm in the middle of freaking nowhere... take two steps... whaddya mean the flipping medibay is twenty minutes of fighting back there?!!!.....

Yeah. Anyone who's ever done an RPG knows that area.

Needless to say that they are always a PITA and a major grind. Now, usually, in most RPGs I've played the Stealth classes wind up a bit under-leveled because the back-game always assumes that you have barreled through those areas like Sherman's March and gained all of that XP from them. SWTOR on the other hand takes this into account and so provides the Bonus Missions on various planets that makes up for that. So... Recommendation?

Anything with stealth and do the bonuses. Because you can zip through the boring areas thus spending far less time "Street sweeping" in those annoyingly brutal areas and more time doing actual content for the same XP and still remain on track the entire way.

Jedi Sage / Sorcerer, despite being the "mage," is maybe the easiest class to use. "Force lightning/force lightning/force lightning" is a totally effective rotation, and you'll never run out of force mana that way.

With healing, you can always heal your companions and basically win a fight that way, and it's not complicated. You have simple tools to never die in single-player content. Bubble/heal once, and the boss is basically defeated. I one-shotted every boss in the game, even avatar of sel-makor and guys designed to kill you once or twice at the very least.

Bubble/heal/cc on heroics, and you're the MVP (heroics should be 25% of the game, I think.) Going from sorcerer to gunslinger, I feel kind of helpless during heroics and flashpoints. If we don't have a sage, it becomes that much harder, and somebody might die on every pull. When you're the sage, no problem. Healing is really not complicated--and it's insurance against anything single-player or multiplayer throws at you.

I realy liked the smugler story. Mainly because of all the flirt options. My scoundrell is a real don juan. I remember on tatooine at one point having 3 women on the sceene at the same time and i had flirted with all of them. No easy wa out of that one :p

Having said that i probably like my trooper playstyle more. Realy nice aoe and the only class with any real aoe at low levels. Also the trooper story is not as bad as everyone say. I quite liked it. Just dont be 100% light or dark. Play what feels right for your trooper. Especially if your light side.(like me) The last class quest i got i "had" to pick the dark side option. It just felt all wrong to go light side and if you do things that feel all wrong it ruins your story more that getting a few darkside points even when your lightside.

Scoundrel has a couple of moves that is positional, and their DPS is meh for sustained depending on your build in what you are doing. They are still good, don't get me wrong.

I hear about people talking about using stealth in bypassing trash mobs, and yes, stealth does help with that, if you are smart about it. But I don't have those same problems with my Vanguard or Guardian or Sentinel... Why? Because they have enough AoE/Cone attacks to help shorten the fight by quite a bit.

And the smuggler "pet" that heals is not 4/5ths of the way through, it is your very last companion... and his heals are ok. Not amazing, but not as bad as Quinn, but way worse than Mako. Can she ever do any wrong?

AoE attacks, and being beefy helps... Smuggler is squishy. And his CC's are only ok, not amazing (except to robots) when he is not steathed. And let's face it, you are not going to walk around 30% slower everywhere, or 45% if you dont take scrapper skills, than if you were unstealthed and sprinting...

The easiest class is whichever one you click with. That is not only the easiest answer, but the best one, and the deepest.

You should take companions into account. I would go with Jedi Knight (either one). You have access to two dissimilar companions very quickly (both a tank and dps), which gives you easy options regardless of whether you want to tank or dps by yourself.

The resource mechanic is also really easy to handle. Some abilities make focus go up, some make it go down. It's simpler than having to monitor your bars to make sure that you don't alter your recharge rate.
