snooggums
does anyone know why back in the old republic age they had all kinds of crazy powers but they hardly use force powers in the movie eras? Because the movies are made with people and special effects that cost a lot more than effects in computer games.
GhostRiderLSOV
Yup, and it's made clearer in the Force Unleashed series, where even in the beginning of TFU1, Vader on Kashyyk opens 100 different cans of whoop-*** on the wookies with way more ease than what he did in the movies. DarkestDaemon
I think there was a point in the storyline for my Sith that mentioned the Force beginning to weaken... Might be a possibility of why as well.
Lugtor
This is because of the games have to give you something to play with. If you read the books (the good ones, anyway) you'll notice the force users dont go "wizards of destruction raining doom from above", despite the lowest special effect costs. shamrockjew
Also worth noting that at least in episodes IV, V, & VI advertising that you had force abilities was a great way to get killed. The Emperor shows some pretty impressive force abilities and even Luke "force Jumps" if I remember correctly. The obvious truth is the better special effects got the crazier the force could be on screen, but I always took the subdued original trilogy as a thematic element. The Jedi are all but gone from the galaxy, the force is weak, Luke has to bring it back. Edited January 10, 2012 by shamrockjew
smartalectwo
The KOTOR era is the start of the time when the Jedi start to treat use of the Force with a bit more respect. By the time of the movies, they've really scaled back, and have a 'minimum use of Force (ha)' approach. One of the novels explains why it is that Yoda's visibly strained from lifting an X-Wing, when in some books, Luke rebuilds a whole castle without building a sweat. Yoda's drawing on the Force to the absolute minimum to achieve what he wants to do, and not a drop more. That's why he's the Jedi Master. "Yoda understood the choices better than his upstart pupil." Commander_Talos
The force was beginning to weaken. By Darth Bane's time (1000 BBY) Darth Bane remarks that the dark side is diluted between many force users or "Dark Lords" He "Fixes" this by installing the rule of two. One master, one apprentice. It is likely due to the (often violent) deaths of force users over the centuries, the Force has withdrawing from the galaxy.

It strictly states, the Dark Side is stronger when it is concentrated on smaller numbers. Edited January 11, 2012 by BrandonSM
