caesaraugust
Red fit the Sith 100 times better than blue lightsaber. Because only shallow, vain, vapid people consider the color of anything to be of any importance. A weapon is a weapon, despite the color.
SNCommand
Most likely because Exar Kun is one of the few Sith lords without direct connection with the Sith Empire, he got his teachings and plans from holocrons and SIth ghosts, all earlier and later Sith Lords would be able to trace their allegiance to the original Sith Empire
Aurbere
Because Blue is his fav color? Red may be identifiable to sevants of the Dark Side, but there have been Jedi with crimson bladed lightsabers. It is rare, but some do. Just as some Sith have blue or green bladed weapons. Ausstig
Because he was created before the Prequels forced everything to slavishly follow every detail of the ot. In the same comic, jedi don't wear robes. ohh nooos.
Fyurii
In the same comic, jedi don't wear robes. ohh nooos. Some did. Some wore a mixture of armour and robes/cloaks, and others wore cloaks over tunics. Overall there was less conformity in appearance for the Jedi at this time. It depended more on the individual and sometimes their cultural identity.
AshlaBoga
Because the Sith from the Great Hyperspace War didn't' have lightsabers. Ergo there was no red lightsaber tradition yet.

At least start from Revan and Malak, just 50 years after the Great Sith War, most of the Sith use red lightsaber. The Sith Empire in TOR also use red lightsabers. OldVengeance
He's the Dark Lord of the Sith! He gets to pick whatever color he wants. Who's going to tell him otherwise? Edited September 29, 2012 by OldVengeance
Lord_Karsk
Because he did not have the time and could not find one before he died, any real Sith will always use red no matter what some thinks.Like in this game jedi running around with a red saber would either get them A kicked from the order or B killed by other jedi. Exar Kun was only a Sith for a very short time after he left the jedi order. But this is a game were the developers did these things because they dont care about the canon facts about star wars lore. When one is clueless one is clueless. There is a reason why 99.99999 % of the Sith use red, it has a good reason. Liquidacid
The sith tradition of using red came from the fact that while they were isolated red synthetic crystals were the easiest for them to obtain... now since the color is traditionally a sith color jedi don't like to use it as they don't really like to do anything associated with the Sith.. there is however no rule against it nor would a Jedi be kicked from the order for using a color other than the traditional blue and green... later on there is a practical reason... in large battle when acting in the heat of the moment and through reflexes a Jedi wielding a red saber might be mistaken as an enemy... it's the same reason when I was in the middle east we beat the crap out of green troops who thought it was fun to pick up AKs and fire them... no rules against doing it but the sound of an AK is very distinctive and it's the weapon our enemy used most often so it leads to accidental blue on blue casualties... Killing or dying in battle is one thing but being killed or killing someone on your own side because of a stupid mistake that could be easily avoided is something else in Kun's case, if he was even aware of the tradition, it was simply that he was still using his lightsaber from when he was a Jedi and because it still worked the same probably saw no point in changing it... it's not really the Sith way to waste extra energy to do something that they gain absolutely nothing from Edited September 29, 2012 by Liquidacid
AshlaBoga
Yeah the tradition seems to have first become evident between Exar Kun and Ulic Quel-Droma's little drama, and Revan's Civil War. So I suspect that the Sith Empire in TOR might actually be the source of the custom! If so I guess we should thank them for the iconic Red Lightsaber look of the SIth - thank you, you British-accented stylish sociopaths!

Look at her before the TCW and you'll see she is weilding a red saber, if it was a rule then the writer's would need to conforme to that rule and made her saber other then red. But they didn't need to change it, so its not a rule.

Captain_Zone
This again? Seriously? Before Mace Windu had a purple lightsaber, the Sith used purple in KotOR and KotOR II. At the time that Exar Kun became Dark Lord of the Sith, with the blessing of Marka Ragnos, there was NOTHING in Lore or Canon that said a Sith Lightsaber HAD to be red. Get it? Now, throw George's anal-retentiveness out the window for a sec. Forget George Lucas and his constant meddling in the ExU. Without that, there is nothing that prevents Jedi or Sith from using whatever color crystal they want. Seriously, George needs to eat more fiber. Windu's purple blade came first. AoTC was released the year before KoTOR.
