Taris is awful

Hello everyone reading this. I will let you know early that I love SWTOR and I love Bioware. Now this post is particular to the planet Taris. I am a Jedi Setinel and I arrived here around level 18 to find Doctor Godera. One thing I like about SWTOR are the fun side quests you can do on your way to the class quest. I do find them fun, but in this case they are ABSOULTELY not!

I arrived on Taris realizing I really hated the scenery of the planet. I wanted to just quickly do the "4" or so side quests and class quests and leave as fast as possible to get to a more interesting planet. This I am afraid is not an option. My mission log is over flowing with quests on this god forsaken planet and I am really about to stop playing. I finish a few side quests and start heading to the class quest only to find 6 more side quests. I really can't take it anymore. I fill like I am going to be stuck here from level 18-50. Why would Bioware put so much useless quests on this ugly, dull, and boring planet. No one wants to be stuck in that scenery for that long.

It's not that it's hard it is just very long and boring. I hate the scenery and that adds to the boring

if you nevered played KOTOR Taris won't make any sense.

Planet was basically crushed by orbital bombardment. There is a reason taris is like it is. To me I liked Taris, tied off many things that left you wondering after taris was destroyed by Malak's fleet. What happened to the outcasts? Watching Rakgouls explode in population, all the destroyed infrastructure.

I thought Taris was AWESOME.

Yes I remembered that. I have played both KOTOR games and I know the story of Taris and actually I like the story of Taris. I am just saying that I do not like being stuck in this eerie apocalyptic jungle for as long as you have to in the game

Contrary to apparently popular opinion, I agree with the OP. I absolutely despise Taris. Granted I have not played KOTOR, I understand its importance in lore and all the answers it gives to loose ends left from KOTOR. Anyhow, it was definitely my least favorite planet in game. The scenery was trash (Imperial Taris is much better scenery-wise I thought). The stories were trash. They were just mindless tasks to go kill rakghouls and stuff. I was so done with rakghouls after Taris that when I got to KuS at 50 I almost cried. And then came LI. They always say you can't have a good video game without zombies and lava.

But yeah, I hate Taris.

i started out disliking Taris, but it grew on me after leveling so many alts. it's one of my favorite planets Republic side. after the first run through, any additional ones aren't so bad. especially if you buy your legacy speeder skill. speeders make the planet go by a lot faster.

I love Taris, one of my absolute fav planets. I skip rested bonus just so I can explore there a bit more, lol.

As always, different people like different things. When I'm on one of the planets that I'm less interested in I use rested bonus and bonus-missions. Perhaps a few space-missions as well. Just so I can get to the next planet a little quicker.

I like Taris and hate Nar Shadaa. Everyone have different tastes.

But if you don't like it, skip. Do your class quests, and get out to the next planet. Do some space combat or pvp or flashpoints and you won't even miss the XP.

The only quests necessary to do are the class quests (and those are only becouse they unlock the next content - sadly, it should be your level, not the standing in the class quests).

I liked Taris a lot. It hits some interesting and tragic story points along the way. I do agree that having legacy speeder piloting does help a lot, the second time around. And you cannot appreciate Imperial Taris until you've done it on the Republic side. In fact if you hated Repbulic Taris, you may cathartically enjoy a return visit as Sith.

That said, if you hate it, it is totally skippable. None of the class quests are all that involved and those can be knocked out quickly, and as I recall all four of them are pretty good.

Personally, I loathe tattooine more then any other planet. You think Taris' landscape is boring? Try sand, sand, and more sand. Occasionally broken up by the odd village at the arse end of nowhere, a landcrawler somewhere, and a sarlac.

On my latest toon I was able to do Taris, Nar Shadaa and Tatooine only doing class quests and space missions, without touching a single side quest AT ALL.

I was underleveled by the time I reached Alderaan, but I did the side quests there and caught up.

If there are side quests on a planet, and you don't like the planet, don't do them.

I can understand pepole who don't like Taris. The planet is just depressing.

Personaly, I dislike Tatooine more. Sand, sand, sand and, oh look, sand.

There are a lot of planets with very diferent settings. But with all the sidequests and the "bonus" sections, wich at the time I get to them feel more like punishment, each planet takes about three times as long to complete as it takes me to get bored with it's setting.

Hmm. Taris is one of my favorites. Tatooine, too. The thing about the side quests and the bonus missions is that you don't have to do them. I do with every character because they add to my rp and character development and I still enjoy them, but you don't have to. They're as optional as fps, heroics, and pvp. Any combination of those things will get you the same experience, so tailor your gameplay to your personal preferences. Edited by errant_knight

but you gotta admit that the Czerka quest line is pretty cool though, right? right?

Yeah, that was pretty awesome. I've run the Tatooine planetary quests on 3 of my alts so far.

For me personally, I happen to really like Tatooine, partly because the setting reminds me of the movies more than the other settings do.

Hello NickDory.

I feel your pain. I hated Taris too. I play a Sentinel too (not that it matters). And I also "got" the lore - I played KOTOR back in the day. I still hated Taris in SWTOR. Taris in KOTOR was lovely, shiny, and mysterious at the same time. Taris in SWTOR is ... brown.

Dull scenery. Dull quests. Awkward navigation. MORE of them damn Rakghouls!!

The good news is you can skip it. Just do the class quests, abandon the others, and do some levelling with a few space missions or maybe some PVP Warzones. Jump onto the next planet. Or you could ask a level 50 to escort you through a level 30 zone and just kill random packs of mobs - you'll get shed loads of xp in no time.

Don't quit, the rest of the planets after Taris are much more fun, IMHO.

Well I eventually finished everything on Taris and I am in Nar Shaddaa at the moment. I really enjoy Nar Shadda. I feel the environment is really fun and it is something you always see in a Bioware game. As of all the people hating on Tatooine. I can probably understand that, but for me Tatooine and Hoth are the planets I want to visit the most since they have such major connections to the movies I want to see what they were like 3,500 years ago.

On my first toon, I found Taris incredibly easy. Maybe that was because I did Nar Shaddaa first (and died about 10k times during this procedure, as a Lvl16 toon on a Lvl20-24 planet, things are rather hard ^^). The distances between outposts and thus between class story elements are a bit lengthy, that's true - but as one discovers an outpost and unlocks its speeder pad, things get better.

Concerning the Rakghoul thing, I do not have a strong opinion for or against it. They are just another race of mobs of which you will eventually have to kill some to gain XP and proceed (quite as it is on other planets, imo)...

When it comes to lengthyness or the "boredom factor", I personally get more p***ed off by planets like Hoth, Voss or Corellia. Imagine having to solve Corellia w/o a speeder, om*g! And even with a speeder you have to spend quite some time travelling between quests. Don't get me wrong - Corellia has been done nicely concerning the atmosphere and the details, I think. It's just too darn big, and somewhat confusing!!

Tatooine, in contrary, doesn't appear lengthy to me. Only in the Dune Sea you may get the impression that it's all the same - the other areas feel quite diverting to me.
