Paddyspub
OK so a little back story here first. I played WoW since BC and am just sick of it so I got me some SWTOR. I always played a caster DPS for my main and a dual wield meledps/tank hybrid ( Mage/Death Knight). I like the Idea of the glass cannon doing rediculous damage but being squishy does have its drawbacks leveling. Either way Id just like massive damage output. I mean, whats the point of playing DPS if you're not topping meters...lol? Any suggestions on what class and spec may suit me best would be greatly appreciated. So far I played a Jedi Knight and this toon I'm posting from.
ErosGyne
jedi knight is exacly what you want, dual wield, crazy damage and has more defence abilities that a full tank ofc BW may or not balance the class out in the future, but for now rocks in PVE and PVP
Meepbot
jedi knight is exacly what you want, dual wield, crazy damage and has more defence abilities that a full tank ofc BW may or not balance the class out in the future, but for now rocks in PVE and PVP Yes, sentinels (a dual wielding melee class) pull some of the best DPS in the game right now, but If you want a caster class, a sage/sorcerer is the closest you can get to a mage, but mercenaries/commandos are also good PvE casters as well. Finally, if you want to run a tank/DPS hybrid (but give up dual wield), roll an assassin/shadow, as they have a lot of really good hybrid specs atm Edited November 8, 2012 by Meepbot
Ashaari
Ranged massive damage with plenty of cc but squishy if caught by melee? - I would say Sniper/Gunslinger is the nearest. Dual weilding melee is, as said above, Sentinal/Marauder to a tee. If you are addicted to magic effects then go for a Sorcerer or Sage. Remember that for levelling you will have a companion after a few levels , and a range of companions as you lvl further. This mean squishy for PvE levelling is not a major handicap for any class as you can select your dps, healer or tank companions accordingly. For PvP all classes are viable, although not for all specialisation trees in all classes - all of the above are viable in at least one spec, some in all three. Owsley
For burst DPS that's outrageous, go Sniper, plus, Imperial Agent has one of the best class stories in the game. Edited November 8, 2012 by Owsley
Oggthebase
I hope you enjoy the stories while you level up, as they are the best part of SWTOR. If you've become tired of Wow, I'm afraid you might also get tired of SWTOR once you reach 50, as the endgame is pretty much the same grind PvE and PvP wise. Anyway, welcome to SWTOR! Paddyspub
First of all Thank you all for your replies. I'm pretty sure I'm going to level a few classes/races based on the advice given. Seems like sage and Jedi Knight may be for me but I'll give just about anything a shot once. As far as story line...... Well nothing was as epic to me a leveling my first toon on WoW. Getting to new zones, learning new abilities, quest lines...etc...So far SWTOR IMO is much better in terms of story and character development and personalization. I have a shadow that is only level 14 and I'm really clueless as to what im doing just like I was with WoW at first, but so far it has a much more epic feel to it. Karkais
From what you described, sage/sorcerer specializations (jedi consular/sith inquisitor) for the caster role, sentinel/marauder (jedi knight/sith warrior) for the melee one. ps. Both the jedi knight and sith warrior stories are very good. Edited November 8, 2012 by Karkais
happysister
you could always try the gunslinger class. no only do they have crazy ranged DPS, but they also dual wield blasters. so that would be another plus to you. the cover system might take a little getting used to at first, but it's great fun.
