  1. Well, in Battlefleet Gothic Imperium pretty much loses in everything but frontal assaults, plus distance penalties, so they are fat frags for everyone else, except maybe Orks. Size doesn't really matter here, it's maneuver that wins + engagement distance. Plus Star Wars have mosquito fleets, like Rebel Alliance had, that are to be very effective against giant ships with no force fields and fighter cover. So I dare to say, that SW Imperial\Republic or joint fleet beats the Imperium of Man, but against other races - no idea.
  2. I've made a post, so why not make a topic, huh? (original content from here - http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=1728407#post1728407 ) Fellas, don't compare apples to oranges, please... I've already stated that, but it went unnoticed so far, so here's my thoughts: Jedi are not comparable to Space marines \ Chaos marines \ Boyz \ etc. Why? Because they do not perform the job of a heavy superior trooper, that's why. Jedi do: maintain public order and quell unrests, councel, supervise or lead investigations, advise, encourage comrades and lead them in battle, resist the Dark Side and hunt the Sith. Jedi don't do or tend no to do: assault planets in vast numbers, storm fortresses, hold the line. The profile stated above, suits Inquisitors, Comissars, Arbitres. All of them are a capable adversaries for the Jedi. Jedi vs. Space Marine is like a rapier against battle axe.

  4. In sheer numbers: Manpower: Space Marines > Jedi. Ultramarines alone outnumber the complete Jedi Order. Physical abilities: Space Marines > Jedi. Soft jedi flesh cannot compete with genetically improved and augmented bodies, that spit acid and neutralise poisons (1 exception here, Jedi can get drunk, lol. But wait, Space Wolves can get too). In, let's say, love affairs, both, except space wolves, simply... dont want, so here's a par Outfit: Space Marines > Jedi. Armor vs. robes, 'nuff said. Weapons: Space Marines > Jedi. Lightsabers are tremendous, but a variety and multi-tasking of a space marine's weaponry, makes him a versatile for almost any task, not only close combat. Epicness: Space Marines > Jedi. ZILLIONS SMASHED! BURNED! EXTERMINATUS!! GUTS&GORE&BLOOD!!! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!!! (whoops). These guys are just not comparable. That's because the Jedi do the job of Arbitres, not of Astartes. And a mild touch of Ordo Xenos\Malleus (Sith hunt). I feel it makes more sense to compare by function.
  5. While I'm almost sure the whole thing is an accident-turned-feature sort, a British RP-tuned accent sounds a way more snobbish and suitable for a aristocratic militant society that the Empire definitely is. Could be much more fun, if moffs started, like, some southern tunes, would look like the South finally rose again . As for historic debates spinning off here, I personnaly tend to accept Churchhill's view as described in his memories\books\bios. Here is the short of it: - Britain alone stood for about a year, after continental resistance ended - USA contributed greatly with supplies and war materials, also with convoy escorts. - In exchange, yes, many pacific bases were rented to the US (not taken away, 99 year rent). That had sense, as Japan was close and ready to attack, so it could become a bait for them, and a possibility to drag the US into the open conflict. - Britain invasion would not occur after the failure in the Battle of Britain, and See Loewe cancelling in 1941, as the Fleet was strong and unbeaten, and Hitler's divisions were occupied with Eastern Campain (that consumed about 60% of all his ground forces, even remaining Afrikakorps were partially shifted to Russia in 1943). So nothing to quarrel about, only a bit of good old-fashioned bar brawl between the allies
  6. In the grim darkness of grim darkness there is only star war. Generally, it's like throwing a kids-playing-knights into a real wolf den, you'll get only guts and well-fed wolves covering the ground. These are really different stories, how can one compare a fantasy pic, where is no image of real blood spilled (ok, lightsaber cuts so smooth and has so high temperature, that a wound doesn't bleed, because it's literally fried, but what about a detonator, huh?) to the universe, where Nurgle's Plague Bearer is not even a candidate for the Ugliest Top 10 Contest? Anyway, let's try to find out, how these universes may clash. WH40K is definitely bigger, so I would assume, that Star Wars saga happens somewhere in the area, lost due to the Warp storms, and is a fine remnant of a humanity's Golden Age (the basic ability to create new techs, not only salvage what's left). Being far away from the main routes, and shielded by storms from any invasion, this area becomes less agressive and doesn't need any ultra-powered military tech any longer, that's why they are more soft and have less powers. Yes, they posess something they call "the Force", but it's a sheer psyker abilities. Of cource, Chaos doesn't pass by, and we have a twisted users - the Sith, how they call themselves. Based on their agenda, they are definitely Khorne followers (just look at the Chaos Empire logo ). The Sith are just purely evil brutes, only the singles plan some kind of tricks and shady plots, yet in the end they still turn berserk. What stops Chaos gods from a full-scale invasion? Have no idea, maybe it's Khorne playing his toys when he's still a kid, lol. What shall happen, if this little Chaos playground is discovered by major powers? The only way to survive is to join the Chaos officially for the Empire, and adopt the Greater Good for the Republic, that's gonna be a big warzone between Tau and Chaos. However, Jedi may join the Eldar (just as mysterios as themselves), as Tau are completely immune to psykers, and should easily wipe the jedi's in case of something. The rest is up to you
  7. Hi everyone, IMO, as the Empire was established, it inherited Republic supplies and blended them together with traditional Sith customs. So that's why stormtroopers look like clones - they simply utilise the same wargear concept with slight modifications. We also know, that Empire is traditionalist and alien-abolishing, so clones and aliens are replaced at the great scale by humans where possible (only mercenaries and some tech staff are a bit of exception). Quite a story is with the navy vessels - they are, according to back, being built on many wharf-worlds, like Sullust, combining Republic and Sith traditions (oh yeah, here the Star Destroyer comes). So in the following years after the emerging of the Empire, assuming ship design was not dramatically changed, it's rather easy to build and maintain a fleet that the Empire has. Officers, as mentioned before, are definitely a product of military academies, naval and army (those guys in gray caps are Navy officers, can be found on the ships and leading the boarding parties, as they are under Navy jurisdiction. Army officers are in black or field green or arctic white and wear distinct helmets, imperial commandos just use the same pattern. Navy seems to have more prestige, anyway). As an example, Han Solo is a defected Empire Officer (definitely he was Corellian Navy academy cadet), turned smuggler.
