  1. I wish I could go, but I'll be 'off world.' Also I'm not sure I'd be admitted because I don't own any formal attire. I'm sure will be a success, have fun and don't drink too much.

    Family RP

I was thinking about this topic a few days ago and figured I'd post something up about it. I had a positive experience with this in my first MMO called Nexustk. When I played that game back in 1999 or 2000 it was a community driven game in addition to having a solid RP player base. Within the game there were grandparents/parents and aunts and uncles, and it seemed to function well. It was'nt a fly by night RP, for the life of you playing that game those were your RP relatives. The members of the RP family were also part of very different sub paths (RP sub classes) and guilds, and yet the family RP transcended those differences. Recently I was trying to analyze what made it work in that game/setting and if it could work with the same success within SWTOR's structuring. 1. One thing I realized about the family RP in Nexustk is the grandparents of the giant RP family were actually grandparents IRL and the generations that worked down almost adhered to their being an age difference. I think the actual age and RL experience played a strong roll in it's success. Also some of the parents were married IRL. 2. Similar to the last point is I recall there being a certain maturity level amongst all involved, there was very little drama and everyone seemed to look out for each other. 3. There was also respect between family members and a willingness to help each other out. No one was too needy, but there was a healthy give and take like a normal functioning family. The reason I figured I'd post this is because I remember Family RP adding a cool element to the gaming, an added depth, a sense of belonging and reward for helping family members out. This game is what you make out of it, and I'm curious if this type of RP can have success within SWTOR. Anyone had any experiences? Suggestions? Criticisms?
  3. Just transferred over from Jung Ma, and was curious what options are available for PvP centric guilds on the Empire side that encourage RP. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Not able to log into game yet, so I don't have a definite name in game, so I'll be checking in here.
  4. I second a 4/6/36 if your going to play Pyro. TD now has burst again and you can actually do a solid burst rotation. like you could pre- 2.0. (Not as strong but about 80% there) I played all types of hybrids in a desperate attempt to get the class to perform after 2.0, and some of them worked well in certain situations. But if your looking for the most effective burst PvP build for PT in the current state of the game go 4/6/36.
  5. Something I noticed alot of Merc/PT players do is burn stealth scan by randomly using it in the hopes of a random stealther being in that exact spot. If there is an actual stealth threat in the area, he will wait for you to do that and then jump you. You will then have 20 seconds of cooldown to wait until it comes back up, and could blow an oppurtunity for a kill. My advice is this.. 1.) Keybind your stealth scan to a single click button (I actually use 1 of the 2 buttons on the side of my mouse). This will make the ability much faster to use. 2.) Use stealth scan after a vanish (By vanish I mean the shadow/Assassin or Scoundrel/ Operative cooldown that enabled them to stealth in combat). This will frustrate stealthers to no end. And once you are comfortable with the keybind you will be able to do this faster and faster. It is rare that a stealth can vanish away from me, just make sure your eye is on them when they vanish and you can track their likely direction of travel. (Key binding all skills helps with having your eyes on the screen at the time of vanish). Fundamentally this can be a great skill and is underutilized. Don't just spam it randomly, your chance of popping a stealth is low. If you save the cooldown and have it keybound you will have stealthers slamming their keyboards in no time.
  6. I hav'nt read this entire post, just the first few. I'd just like to share my own personal experiences. I have played the full realm of clicker/keybind, full keyboard, Hybrid. And now fully keybound. I will say what I explain in the following took time and if you attempt it, your brain will tell you to give up. But if you don't... your enjoyment, skill level, and awareness will increase greatly. I started playing MMO's as a clicker, the concept of keybinding was foreign to me. The only keys I used were 1,2,3,4 etc. up to 0. I played this way for years, I even played one MMO completely off of the keyboard. (Yes a full blown keyboard turner). Everything changed for me just short of SWTOR beta or around that time... I watched a video made by a player named Tulgrim, he was explaining how he keybinds and made a very informative video that made a lot of sense. The video was based out of a game I did'nt play, but fundamentally the concepts transfer to any game that allows you to customize your keybindings. I will say this and emphasize it later, this concept changed the entire way I play MMO's completely, it improved my PvP skill tremendously. So what I decided to do is to force myself to completely rearrange the way I looked at keybindings and force myself to re-learn how to play MMO's. The first thing I did was change from a WASD configuration to what I knew to be comfortable from learning how to type in school. So I changed to ASDF (where you are taught to hold to type w/o looking). So my movement keys went from W (Forward) A (Strafe Left) S (Backwards) D (Strafe Right) to just this... S (Strafe Left) F (Strafe Right) I Freed up W for a hot-key and A for a hot key. I then learned better (I had used the mouse for movement some) how to use the mouse completely for movement, and eliminated key-bindings (as fore mentioned) that involve forward or backward movement. The next thing was to look at what I call 'real estate' (term for what keys are within comfortable reach of my left hand) is now opened up. For me that was this... 1,2,3,4,5,6 Q, W, E, R, T A,D,G Z,X,C V And two mouse keys (one center top and one side) And the second side button for auto-run) That makes a total of 20 hot keys, more was needed for me (I Find with all my characters 36 hot keys seems to be enough). I had some practice with Alt and Shift and was somewhat comfortable using those keys. So I was able to generate about 14-16 more hot-keys using those. Remember you can use Alt+(Any letter) or Shift+(Any letter). Makes those easy to reach letter keys a good keybind option. Emphasizing again, and a TLDR summation - Fully Keybinding changed my entire outlook on MMO and competitive PvP and my enjoyment factor in MMO's is a direct result of forcing myself to change how I looked at key binding.
  7. Nem'tk 1436.78 DPS (Single target) I don't have anything amazing to add. Just some solid DPS on my Pyrotech PT. This is with the Obroan crit relic and power relic. (No double power used at all and can confirm by my RS being 7.1k.) Also forgive my lack of protection, I'm usually not this big of a tunnel vision noob. http://i.imgur.com/UxOKzoV.jpg
  8. I'm just giving you a hard time. But to answer your question, my team lost. The reason I knew that you had the relic equipped was because my initial burst dmg usually does 1/4-1/2 of someones health. I used my healer burst rotation, (I use in most openers to try and evoke a reaction, hopefully evoking defensive cooldowns getting blown or overeaction) and I saw that your health moved a small percentage. Freakishly small, even for a tank. That's why I decided to post, not big deal. I just did'nt realize how strong the relic was until I fought you on that node. Frontload damage is reduced drastically, then things go back to normal. You have to admit it is quite strong.
  9. Crinnith does'nt want to discredit anyone using the relics because he is taking advantage of them himself. I know I fought him the other night. The relic bug does both inflate dps and and survivability. (depending on which relic combo you use). So the numbers will be lower after the patch.
  10. Thanks for taking the time to read some of the post. I agree with some of what you said and some of it not as much. I think fundamentally we are looking at this from two different perspectives. I can see your analyzing from a ranked perspective, where in a dps roll you are expected to burst. I've worked on this from a general PvP perspective (mostly none ranked and solo que'd). I don't think anyone will argue the most burst potential for the PT is still full Pyro, just based off of TD being put into the rotation (with a crit it's nice, w/o it's garbage). The issue I have with what you posted are some of the numbers. I can't recall ever getting a TD to hit for 6.1 or a RP to hit for 6.1, or even close. Those have alway's stayed in the 4.6-barely 5k range for me. Also in order to hit a spree of crits to get those 4.6-6.5 numbers you need explosive fuel up and even then it's RNG. And the reason I'm even bringing that up is to get down the issue PT's have fundamentally from your perspective which is ranked... PT as the game stands now are only used by top tier ranked teams in the roll of tank. PT as a DPS in top tier ranked teams became obsolete in 2.0. It simply comes down to numbers and game design. Two things we have no control over. There are classes that are designed better and have better numbers, that fill the DPS roll better. Fundamentally your right, if you want to play PT in a DPS roll in a ranked team, the most burst you'll get potentially is out of a full Pyro build. This build was'nt designed for burst, it was for more versatility, utility and consistent damage or 'predictable damage' as you put it, but keep in mind once a healer see's a TD ticking full Pyro damage becomes predictable too. (alot of this I adress earlier in the posts). The reason I worked on a this build is because 98% of PvP that goes on is in regular warzones, and finding a build that suits your playstyle within that arena. For ranked more variables are added, where mobility/burst/class design/synergy play a stronger roll. And ultimately for DPS(in ranked) it is finding the build that has the highest burst potential, and your right full Pyro has that. (even though it relies on a cooldown every 2 minutes and even if all is in your favor still is'nt all that good. when stacked against other DPS). I appreciate your input, I think the PT board needs more posts and input. Hopefully this clarifies where I'm coming from, and the point of this build.
  11. RB is situational as I explained. It's not meant to use everytime you start a rotation, also it only costs 16 heat. You will occasional use it in your rotation, but the majority of time your doing a basic PPA proc based rotation. And if burst was all PvP was based on, no one would PvP with this class anymore at all. This build is about making Pyro work as best we can.
  12. Not sure what your specifying. If you mean the powertech in general, each person makes that choice. If you mean the build, each person makes a choice. This build is for those that want to use a pyro based build in PvP, nothing more nothing less.
  13. Thanks, yeah I've run 11/10/25, it's basically the same. I just like the option of having the additional dot, it does pay off in certain encounters. It is sad how much we were toned down, I look at old screen shots of my character and total dmg/dps highest hit. And they don't look that much different than now.
  14. Yes CGC is the cell you want to use with any pyro based build.
  15. Yeah I agree with your thoughts, and spoke a bit about it in my original post. Pyro tree in all falls very short, where this really becomes apparent to me is when I play any of my alts, and you can see the depth of other advanced classes trees. I can see changing the two points out of flame suit. I know that by speccing into volatile your overall DPS would go up, you'd just have to work it into a rotation, and be mindful of it's heat useage. I just don't like flame sweep much, and don't use it all that often. But maybe I'll do more testing with it, and see what numbers it can produce. Thanks for your insight and suggestions.
