But now that it has been implemented, they act like it is a necessity, something that they cannot live without, and that anyone not approving of the change is in the wrong to voice such opinion.

Sure, established guilds may or may not have this sort of money available to them, but what about going forward? How will anyone make a new guild and have a hope to get it off the ground? They will not have a large base of dedicated donators to fund them. The ships will hardly be optional with the buffs and missions attached to them.
