  1. That's about right. Although moving chars (on live servers, had some fun on some priv*** servers) is nothing more than a few DB calls for them. They got physical access to the servers and I suppose they should have enough "test" queries lying around that could do this for them. So the delay is not so much a technical matter, but rather them not admitting there are population issues, or better, them believing that the LFG tool will save the day.
  2. The best way for me would be server transfers. Although merges and transfers both might alienate the community, transfers don't have to happen, where else merges are mandatory. Anyway I like when in PvP I meet the same people that know what I am capable off and try to nuke me first, while I keep my team alive. I believe though that in case the transfers are scheduled for way later, my server (Bao-Dur) will need a LFG tool. Of course I could find a quite active guild for that sake, but this might prove to be a difficult task, as I am republic and we don't get more than 80 people in prime time in the fleet. Re-rolling not gonna happen as I grew fond of my jedi sage (and after 2 months I just hit 49; PvPing is the slower way to level after all).
  3. That's basically what happens in wow, or any similar mmo. Hardcore players log in by the time new content comes out, finish it in a few weeks and off they are, they just log for dailies or some PvP. The rest of us just takes it easily hopes for a buff or two, so we can finish the content in months time. Than new content come out and the story goes on. Besides PvP or raiding none of this games offer anything more to do. Regarding the E-peen factor, it will be added as soon as the next raid tier is implemented into the game. People with better gear will be able to finish it faster than people with anything less. As it is right now it's quite easy to acquire similarly good armor with no to little effort, which is normal for a launch.
  4. If you mean more of a time sink I can understand what you re looking for. The best, way that this is doable is by using longer lockouts. This way, the skilled, or better the more organized guilds, will be able to acquire their gear faster than the others. Another way is of course using bosses that scale their dps depending on the avg item level of the group. This way bosses will still be difficult even if you get the best gear. This together with lockouts are for me the best way to solve this issue. But, we, the casuals, are probably gonna whine about it (although I don't care much. I hate it when I get into a raid and it turns out to be a face roll because it was nerfed a month after release). Otherwise the only way I can see this balanced is by lowering the drop percentages which comes down to RNG. Obviously nobody likes that, as shows the raising of the percentages in later patches. I don't see any of those happening...
  5. Yep that feels about right. Immersion is a very important thing for mmos.. WoW had it for me, Warhammer had it in some extend (I miss my goblin)... I mean I like Star Wars and all, but I can't stop laughing when I visit a base that is said to be heavily contested and it has a small wall that anyone could jump over and like a blaster canon protecting it.. This Star wars Universe isn't very well thought after all (I mean you got holograms but you have to run miles through lifeless landscapes to get back to the questgiver... Contracts can't be that expensive, gas costs like 70 bucks to travel from one planet to another). In the end I might not be a sci-fi type of guy, but I think Star Wars could be represented in a better fashion than what is provided in this game.. On another note, wow does guild wars look good, even on lowest settings..
  6. First of start the game with admin rights. Then wait a few secs-mins,while it creates the needed directories and tries to install directx9. If any of those fails the play button wont work. Just kill the launcher and try again, eventually it will work.
  7. I reckon Swtor's psychologists, believed a Human-Npc relationship to be the most addictive part in this game.. Anyway there isn't imo any 101 manual for mmos.. Cause from what I heard Rift did everything well and still ended up merging servers. Of course if you compare any western/ized mmo to WoW you probably'll come to the same conclusion, that all failed. WoW of course is an anomaly as many like to call it, which is quite true. Imho mmos are going downhills. People are bored and don't even know what they want from a game anymore; they always want something more but can't define what's missing. Don't think a mmo will be as successful as WoW again, not because there can't be a better one, but rather because the mechanics used in today's mmos are quite narrow minded. So people face the conflict of time investement vs fun (The usual rhetoric question is like: Why play this that is the same with that where I got x level y chars etc etc). Imho the idea of a story driven mmo was a nice twist, they needed though to have an equaly good foundation, which they obviously failed to create in some extend... Still for me the game is quite fun and whatever they didnt deliver at release, they either mentioned that is coming or that it is going to be fixed. Only thing I wish is that I could play PvP at least with adequate fps on my laptop when travelling.
  8. For the love of god, if you want to make a point post a DXDIAG not a shopping cart list with price tags on it.. Yes the game is not optimized, yes it's not ok if high-end systems get anything less than 60fps. Regarding the case of the op; I have an i5 2500k and a 560ti on a first gen sata drive and I never ever have seen my fps drop bellow 40 (everything on)..
  9. Any clever marketing strategy is selfish somehow, it's done for moneyz after all.. Although it's the norm in mmos for content to be released in a two to three months interval..
  10. While I agree on the reputation part etc that some people mentioned, it's a pain in the *** when you are playing on a server with 150 people max. scattered over different levels at any given time. LFG is an elegant way to fix the dropping population and make people on low pop servers happy without destroying their community with merges or free transfers. WoW does have many low pop servers, but noone cares because everyone can still do any given hc or pug raid without having to wait for the other 4-24, same level, characters to login so he can group up and he can still enjoy his time in his guild. PvP is going to be promoted by this changes too. As it is now I know anyone who does pvp in my server by his name. I know deppending on who is in my group how the game will end. That isn't because I am too social or anything, but because there are only a couple of players doing pvp (Republic). In the end if no one of the good players is around (me beeing a healer, that needs good dps (at least high level players) to be utilized to the max), I end up quitting of doing PvP until they decide to log in; which then gives us a fair change to compete. A LFG too would greatly improve my experience at least because it would give me a feeling of not knowing what's going to happen and not the depressions I get when I see all the 12lvl players in my team and the 49level player on imps side.. I for myself enjoy my server and having lived through countless merges, I know I don't want one in this game. That would destroy the community imho..
  11. Level 2... and main is 42.. well I guess I am doing something wrong ..
  12. That probably would lead to even more bugs.. Anyway I too am quite happy with how the bar works right now. The flashing gives me a better understanding of what is ready etc. Though I never looked at it in the first place..
  13. LOL... But seriously man, I feel sorry for you... You could try to print the transactions from the day they told they refunded you the first time and contact them again or something. Though when it is for money, it's often very difficult to prove anything without lawyers involved.
  14. I played a couple mmos the past 5 years, non of which (besides WoW) had the fun factor of Swtor. Wow grew old and now it's time for Swtor. A vote of love from me too.
