  1. I unsubbed over the Rakghoul Plague Forced PVP on PVE servers and PVE Players (me) and afaik my toons are still infected. I did not WANT to unsub at all. I really like this game I enjoy all the movies and story line (my toons are L20ish) and was having a great time PVEing. I did a few groups but I'm not very good at figuring out that part although my Sith Warrior/Jagg was asked to tank several times and my JC/Sage was pulled into group stuff several levels higher than she was so I guess I did ok there and was looking forward to more adventures. I stuck around HOPING for something from BW about PVP Opt Out Means Opt Out. I was sooo disappointed that they've said nothing. BUT Now that I read "THIS" thread I can see where my understanding of the game was in error. It's a PVP Oriented Game and PVE is just secondary if that. I don't know why they even have PVE servers as it seems that everything said here is about PVP. So, my reason for unsubbing was being forced to PVP. BW vision is everyone must PVP and many posts here are about PVPers leaving because of inadequate PVP stuff. So, I guess my reason for wanting to come back [PVE-Pure] was never going to happen anyway. I learned something important here... not sure what it was though <G>
  2. There are some extra key bindings you can check out in the preferences and see it there's something useful. I found Target Next Friend there but it's not great. I wanted to be able to give drive by buffs (to non PVP players as Im PVE and didn't want to catch the PVP ON FLAG) and it does work but it also targets companions and for some reason it seems to get the companion first and you can't buff the companion.
  3. There are several PVE->PVP-ForceTheFlagOn exploits or mechanics. Not all have been addressed. The one I was referring to is this one: Nowhere I have seen anything about fixing FORCED-PVP-FROM-WORLD-EVENTS or any of the other known (sort of) methods of forcing the PVP-FLAG-ON especially on PVE servers or for players with the PVP-FLAG-OFF. What is working as intended for the Rakghoul Plague Event is: We were all flagged for PVP We could all be infected We could all die Some could get loots if they had high ranking toons Infection in the fleet was OK Camping the mail box, gtn, gateways, cargo hold, med station and corpse camping was OK Ghanking players entering the fleet at L10 was OK Going to lower level worlds and ghanking or infecting players was OK especially when those worlds had no vaccines. Continuing to infect, ghank, and chase players to kill them or infect them is OK. And the list continues... I was hoping for something more definitive about PVE-Pure from BW but perhaps tomorrow or SOON . But I already closed my account(s) so for me it might not matter anymore.
  4. One of the big arguments about "griefing" or whatever term you want to use for "this", is that "If the Devs make it, then it's OK for me to use it and therefore it's not "griefing"." For the most part, barring outright bugs/exploits, this is true. The Devs put things in the game to make stuff "happen". They add/change/delete and alter everything in the game. Some games more than others. But often there is an un-intended consequence to taking all changes at face value. For every LOLz a PVPer gets from ghanking a L10 - eventually that player will go elsewhere: another game, another server, a different time zone. Eventually enough $$ seeps out of the system to cause financial problems for the game company and the most long term hurt is to the players themselves. In another game (where I do PVP) I see this all the time. When there is an imbalance in size, make up or HPs of the opposition, and there is too much "In Your Face" attitudes, some folks just pick up their huaraches and go home. Then the PVP zone empties and everyone logs out. True Story: one night I was leading the PVP creep raid and there were only a few freep players in the zone. A common practice was to zerg the outpost and take all their heads. But as I was leading I put out a no-go-into-the-outpost-kill-zone. The oppositon stayed and we played a long time "for fun" we got our kills in and we didn't zerg the zone for several hours. Once they got more players on line then I pulled the ban off and we had even more hours of full bore PVP. The creepside players thanked me because we had fun for hours that would have been just dead. Sometimes a bit of self-restraint helps. So just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.
  5. I had a very hard time undertstanding the Light Side/Dark Side part of the game when I first rolled. My first toon is a Sith Warrior. At that time I didn't know the answers selections gave LS/DS points or what they were for. I just selected the answer I liked best. Later someone pointed out that some armour and weapons were LS/DS gated. I thought ALL items were LS/DS gated and my sith was distinctly Grey. I thought my Grey Side sith was never going to get any new weapons (LOL) so I selected DS on everything and managed to get to DS2. Of course, now I know that there's loads of stuff not gated by LS/DS and my worry was unfounded. There are a few items that are but for the most part it doesnt matter much. You can have a Sith all DS or all LS or GS. You can have a Jedi all DS or all LS or GS. BW has stated they will be adding GS stuff to the game. So play how you like. note: if I roll another Empire toon, that one will be GS. I like being a mix, picking the DS on some items and LS on others
  6. And exactly what did BW learn? I have yet to see one item from them about how to turn the PVP-FLAG-OFF and keep it OFF. They have said they are fixing the PVP-Flag-On-Exploit that's all. Nor have I seen any hint of comment to come about PVE-Pure and OPT-OUT of server wide Forced PVP Events. What you call a single player MMO is not acurate. PVE-Pure players group and do raids, socialize, RP and all other other aspects of the game except we take no joy from causing misery to another player. That doesn't mean there aren't flame-wars or other conflicts we just epeen about gear and boss kills and not about how many L10s we 8v1 in the medical center. PVE+PVP On Demand do all of the above and what any other PVP player does too. So they get EVERYTHING not just 1/2 the pie. But no way would they consider themselves in a single player MMO. One thing totally missing is that there are MANY different play styles. One is not better than another. Each has aspects that can be enjoyable. I for one do not want PVP players to change what they do or how they enjoy the game. I just don't want to be the cannon-fodder for their "fun". There are loads of PVP players already posting that would love to ghank you and 1v1 you or 8v1 you on your PVP server. So, head out for a PVP server and DO THE PVP THERE. Give the the PVE-Pure folks a place to hang out and enjoy our own brand of fun. BW has yet to say one thing about PVE-Pure or PVE Opt Out that means OPT OUT. It may be like Waiting for Godot...
  7. The PVE players in this situation have their PVP-FLAG set to OFF If you are ambushing them then you know how to force the flag on before the player can respond. I doubt you would even 1v1 them at their own level. Just another ghanker with no skills... No skill needed in taking out a L10 when you're L50. ymmv which is obviosly does.
  8. What is being fixed? a) The PVP-AOE-FLAG exploit? yes I think that's in the upcoming patch. b) The "server wide event forced PVP" mode with the PVP flag set to NO? I don't think they have said what they will do about that yet. If you know of an official post about fixing B) please link it as I would like to see what BW plans to do on this issue.
  9. I almost bought the 3 month sub as I too was very very happy with the game as it was. But just as I was about to committ my $$ , The Rakghoul Plague World Event showed up and that ended THAT in a hurry. There are already active threads detailing "PVE-PVP-on-demand" and "PVE-Pure". I've already posted in other threads that inquiries as to the Future of PVE-Pure in SWTOR had no answer from customer service. So, I told them when they have an answer for PVE-Pure that skips Force PVP then I'll resub. In the mean time I stopped my subs to give the Devs time and incentive to consider a PVE-Pure server or an OPT OUT flag that MEANS OPT-OUT (and not opt out until someone else switches you to opt-in)>
  10. Not sure if this helps but my Jedi had a hard time finding the proper entrance too. There are actually 2 separate spots to find. The first in the entrance to the basement. It's not in a direct line but way behind the building in the grass area with some Rakghouls guarding the passage. The maps on the datacron finding sites don't really show that the basement entrance area has to approached from way behind the building. Once inside the basement, then the guides are good on finding the second spot entrance. The passage is pretty much one way and the pointers are correct. fwiw: There is another quest that will take you to the basement. I didn't realize that until after I got the datacron and had to go back to finish out the other line.
  11. I put a question on the topic of PVP/PVE/PVE-Pure in the Q&A Thread. http://www.swtor.com/community/showpost.php?p=4180488&postcount=135 My chats with Customer Support indicated they have no answer about the direction BW will be taking on this. So I voted with my $$ and stopped my 2 subs. My purpose in playing this game is to have FUN. I am not here to provide LOLs to others only for myself. If the game is changing from what it was advertised at the beginning or my understanding of the game, then this may not be The Right Game for me. So I voted with my $$. IF BW can respond to the overall issues being expressed in a way that promotes tolerance for all play styles, I will ra-affirm my support with $$ again. But for now, I am not interested in Open World PVP and Forced PVP Events. I play PVE-Pure - and that has nothing to do with PVP at all.
  12. Q: Can BW please expand and detail their vision of PVP and PVE and their implementation? Especially regarding the future of pure PVE. Background: Given that we have PVP servers and PVE servers, this implies two different play styles. However, the recent "world event" shifted things. PVPers had to PVE (do quests). PVEers where snagged into PVP mode to complete quests too. Comment requested: Perhaps we need another server type? We have PVP servers for hard-core PVP. We have RP servers for hard-core RPing. But PVE servers are combination plates of PVE-only and PVE+PVP-On-Demand. Can we have a server that is Pure PVE Only? For those of us who do not wish to be snagged into PVP mode (ala the recent world event) there would be a server with no PVP mode at all. Players coud chose to role on all 4 types of servers to experience all aspects of the game or only on those servers that where of interest to them. PVP, RP, PVE+PVP, PVE-Pure
  13. Well, from some other threads you guys didn't think fast enough or have enough friends either. There are "reports" of players continuing to infect themselves just for "fun". The Speculation Is: Either they are waiting for the NPC/Vendor to return They are planning <something> more fun in the future. ymmv. Better keep a stock pile of vaccines on you at all times, so when you get force-flagged for PVP by an exploding "player" and his chums take you out, you can all have a great laugh about that. I'll be laughing too.
  14. Except my toons are NOT level 50 and I got "greifed" into the plague. Perhaps you need to remember the Fleet is the first off-world stopping spot for L10s and the transit point for everyone L10 thru L50.
  15. This so-called immunity is good for SIX HOURS only. So, if you THINK you're immune... you're not. And the plague is not over, not by a long shot...
