  1. You really expected there would be a difference? Of what sort? Please, consider the technical limitations and necessary steps to implement any change of such dimension. Any new dialogue would have required new voice acting, for example - from each of the 16 actors for the 8 classes for both genders, not to mention the involved NPCs. But I believe you could easily skip that mission anyways, if it bothers you. I recall it was one of the optional ones? For what it's worth, there are many, many more instances where a character's species comes across as somewhat "inappropriate" by way of available dialogue or how a scene plays out. I cringe everytime I see my Twi'lek Smuggler interact with a Twi'lek NPC, both talking in two different languages. But I'm sure it is even "funnier" with Legacy-unlocked species. Pureblood Jedi anyone? Yeah, I'm sure that's a common sight that wouldn't evoke any unusual reactions at all. You misinterpreted. That was just an example of what players could (manually) do with the new post-gen character customization feature, by going to that kiosk after that fight where you think that your char should walk away with a scar. Not sure if there is anyone actually considering to use the kiosk in this particular way, but ... *shrug* The aesthetic was already compromised by spikey high level armor, or even by making this game look way more like the movies than KotOR, at least to some people's opinion. Ultimately, any sort of character customization will be abused by those players whose particular state of mind considers such things to be "funny" - but that doesn't mean that more sensible users should suffer from this by being subjected to a total ban of these features. I know a few items I'd like to recolor to make them fit better than "unify to chest" can achieve ... and I believe I will manage to ignore any pink-robed Jedi just like I manage to blank out avatars like the one that was wearing slavegirl panties to the Imperial officer's jacket, or Sith Lords in wedding costumes. We might as well argue that BioWare should ban people from jumping or running just because it destroys the atmosphere on certain locations. Some things we just have to learn to live with, and "mental ignore" is a great way to deal with anything that doesn't fit into your interpretation of the setting. That said, the armor dye system looks like a horrible way to handle item customization, and I have no idea why they did not simply implement a kiosk-based system here, too. Then again, this one was obvious from the moment it was announced. I'll still try to make the most out of it, and it's certainly better than nothing.
  2. This so much - at least it's true for myself. Of course, I'm sure that everyone has something we'd wish to see changed, and I too have posted on the issues of SGR or medium armor designs in the past as well, not to mention my criticism regarding the game's overall artistic design which seems to be much closer to the movies rather than KotOR. All in all, however, I'm having fun. No, actually I'm having a blast. These days, I'm thoroughly enjoying the Smuggler storyline and its hilarious writing, as well as having come into contact with a couple new roleplayers. And then there's my Sith leveling group that's about to finish Makeb shortly. I guess my "secret" is that I'm not playing all that much, and even made a long break until Makeb was released. Sometimes it's better to lean back and do something different in order to prevent overexposure - the least you want is something you love becoming stale due to too much of a focus on it. I think part of the problem is that there seem to be so many people who take things way too serious these days, turning the consumption of a game into an important part of their life. This comes with a huge sense of entitlement and seems to result in extreme amounts of disappointment or even "rage", followed up by heated debates with people who have a different perception or opinion. It's almost as if the gaming community has become hugely polarized over the last couple years ... but in a way, sadly this is only reflecting the real world, isn't it?
  3. Well, it's difficult to ban any and all bad words; there will always be more - though I'm sure customer support could be open to suggestions regarding further must-haves. But hey, at least it means it's not the step back you suspected.
  4. Well! These are certainly good news. To me, too, this is not exactly what I've been hoping for (at best being "flirts" rather than "romances"), but certainly more than I dared to expect by now ... and more importantly, it entrenches the developers' willingness to support SGR in this game, basically pushing open a door that will be hard to close, no matter how much the haters and bigots rail against it. Given enough time, people will adapt as they always do, so in a way it even promotes acceptance in real-life society, no matter by how small a part. My Sith Duelist will continue to hold out for Jaesa, but at least I feel a little more optimistic now. So ... thanks for the update, and Happy New Year everyone! You sure it's not just "sexual", or even just "sex"? From what I read in the past, wordfilter complaints in online games are often directed against some weird word where the players don't understand what could be wrong with it - when in fact it was just a part of the word that triggered the alarm.
  5. Unfortunately, it's somewhat obvious that this was a blatant grab at "familiarity". The majority of people know this as the symbol the Galactic Empire in the movies, so this is what the Sith Empire in TOR got. Even though it already had a different symbol in KotOR 1 and 2. This weird "era mix" can be found throughout the game, from uniforms to weapons and armor, which makes TOR appear way closer to the movies than to KotOR. Business knows this as brand recognition value. Matter of preferences, I suppose. For canon geeks, it is somewhat difficult to justify the Galactic Republic now being bound to adopt what looks disturbingly close to the Sith Empire symbol, way before Palpatine even becomes Chancellor.
  6. +1 to this. Props to the writers; I think all the class stories are quite thrilling. It's really a question of what mood you're in. I'm playing all classes save for the Inquisitor and the Counselor (gameplay reasons), and sometimes I'm in the mood for this class, sometimes for that. Having multiple characters thus guarantees I always have access to "just what I need". The dialogue selections even make replaying the same area worthwhile. There was one situation on Alderaan that I have resolved with three different Imperial characters in three different ways, simply because they all had a different personality / approach. Awesome.
  7. Multiple character attitudes and with them entirely new dialogue trees already exist in the game; the most prominent example springing to mind being Dark Side / Light Side Jaesa. It could very well be necessary to reset people's "progress" with their companions (the cutscenes, not the points) in order to allow them to activate these new alternate paths, but other than that I don't see how it would be much different. BioWare has also shown that this can be implemented retroactively in various DLC for its Dragon Age and Mass Effect IPs, where a download would change the dialogue of some character in the main game. Different games, yes, but it goes to show that the studio has experience with such subsequent alterations. The reset itself would be more tricky. The developers likely would not wish to reset every single player's progress with each and every single companion, so it would require a case-by-case solution. Ideally, it could be some sort of mail-distributed ingame item that triggers it, or perhaps it could be an NPC like the one that resets people's skill points? Hell, I'd even buy it off the Cartel Store. Also important: by now a lot of us have gotten very used to the companions we have. I could be wrong, but as far as I'm concerned, for now I do not think any new NPC could compete with "Psycho Jaesa" who I've come to think of as the ideal partner for my Sith, regardless of how much my own creativity needs to fill in the blanks left by the game's lack of support. And I think we all have our favorites already, right? How sad would it be if, some day far in the future, we actually do get new companions romanceable by the same gender, only to discover that they cannot compete with someone already in our crew? New companions will actually have to be entirely new, after all, thus very likely not sharing certain qualities (class, voice, personality, ...) we grew to like in the existing ones.
  8. Now, that's just my opinion, but looking at the class background, how you became a Sith and what effect the Dark Side has on your character, LS Sith don't make a lot of sense to me. There were occasions I've taken LS choices over DS ones, but I'm still DS IV by now (L48) simply because most of the time these options were the most fitting ones for a character that grew up in an environment fostering a lust for power and a lack of morality. For my own character, I had her retain some sort of "duelist's honor", however, in that she respected the strength of others and eshewed cheating in favor of a straight-up face to face confrontation - in spite of the end result, I still got some LS points for this. In the end, it all depends on your personal interpretation of what makes a Sith character, and how close you want to stick to the "traditional" effects and consequences of wielding the Dark Side. This extends to your choice of companions as well. Vette is basically a more legal and slightly less awesome version of Mission, so she invariably gets on your nerves if you stick to the Dark Side and refuse freeing her, but would match well to a Light Side character. I'd love having her available for my Jedi. Dark Side Jaesa on the other hand is a psychopath that, at least for my character, made the perfect "partner in crime".
  9. Oh well, the GTN again. Hmm, I wonder, which level would you have to be to farm Nar Shaddaa commendations via the group finder? 20? Aye, I am currently farming those. Here's hoping for some luck! Already pulled half a dozen orange/purple moddable items out of Valen Korik, but not the boots.
  10. Pretty obvious that Talon was the reason they put that skin in there in the first place. Myself, I kept her blue, though. Ever since Mission I'm convinced that blue Twi'lek = best Twi'lek. Darth Talon being the obvious exception. @OP: My advice would be to ask on your server if any Sith Warrior has a green Vette, then meet with him/her on Nar Shaddaa, comparing Vette's skin to your Mirialan Jedi, so that you have a rough estimate on how much lighter or darker it should be. Choosing the skin with a windowed client whilst having a screenshot of green Vette next to it could help, too.
  11. Naw, Thana's boots do not have armor plates and also miss the "studs" on the side.
  12. You don't - I wasn't claiming as such, and my character isn't either. I'm sorry if I failed to adequately express my thoughts. In the end, however, you cannot deny that a quest for personal power is intrinsically egoistic. And evil deeds as well as usage of the Dark Side of the Force do corrupt the user. How could you simply brush something like being the key element in various of the Empire's objectively tyrannical and sadistical schemes away as if it wouldn't have any effect whatsoever on the character's personality - and continue to serve this Empire in whose methods you do not believe? Now you may argue with your quest for personal power again, tapping the Empire's resources for your own use, but in doing so you sacrifice the lives of the countless intelligent lifeforms that had to suffer for your service, in exchange for your personal advance. And this isn't supposed to be Dark Side? Heh. Yet when you're only aiding someone for your own benefit, that isn't Light Side at all. The motivation is what counts. Otherwise you might as well go and say that all Jedi are actually Dark Side because killing is bad. But no, something like a "Light Side Sith" isn't exactly impossible - we have seen users of the Dark Side redeem themselves before, so obviously there must be a stage where their belief is in question, shortly before they renounce their current existence. Just like there can be Dark Side Jedi shortly before they leave the Order or are dealt with. What I do not believe is the "ease" with which certain story options want to suggest that change, as well as that something like a Light Side Sith or a Dark Side Jedi is a "permanent" state of affairs rather than a comparatively short station in the process of Falling or Redeeming oneself.
  13. My human Sith Duelist (Marauder) goes by the name of Nemera Rhun. Nemera is an alteration of the Hebrew name "Nemmera", which means lioness. The friends I play with have suggested looking at Hebrew, Egyptian, etc names for they may sound suitably "sithlike" - and I have to agree, names such as "Anmun" or "Nephtis" (which they had chosen for their Pureblood Sorcerers) do have some sort of dark appeal. The best thing is, this works both as a first name as well as a Darth title. The fact that Darth names in this era really were just first names most of the time aside, "Nemera" also sounds somewhat close to "nemesis", which I consider a nice bonus. Rhun is just a rather random last name, which we spent much less thought on than the first name. Obviously it shares a phonetic connection with "rune", or even "ruin" if you will. This site has greatly helped me find good names in the past. I do recommend it: http://www.behindthename.com/
  14. No prob! Valias here, btw. Whoah, not bad. Where did you get the boots from - GTN as well? Torhead sadly doesn't list a drop point. Very nice. I approve of the hairstyle. That reminds me. The boots that Thana Vesh was wearing were cool, too, but those seem to be a no-go for us as well. I'm starting to think this is intended to make Sith Marauders feel more Rage.
  15. Oh, certainly - but keeping the Academy's background in mind, how would any student even pick those options? The game just throws them at you because it is overly lenient in granting people the freedom of choice, in the "worst" cases allowing you to break character - and rarely if ever dishing out the appropriate consequences. I'm not sure what people think on how a Sith Academy is run, but I always thought taunting one's Master for the lulz would incur a harsher punishment than a stern warning. The guy who eventually ? I'm not sure he's such a good example for what you mean. Usage of the Dark Side of the Force has a corrupting influence on people's minds and makes them sadistic. This effect seems to be forgotten or ignored by a lot of people. The Dark Side and the Light Side are not just fancy names for useful powers. And egoism as originating in the search for personal power further enhances this further by luring people to take the easiest and quickest path - which is, again, the Dark Side, as well as the unbridled exploitation of others. The only way to stay clear of the Dark Side is to NOT be an egoist, which is imho incompatible with the very being of what it means to be a Sith, and to avoid the taint of "evil work", which is incompatible with the orders you receive from your superiors. It's why all those Sith who actually do have an epiphany and start walking on the path of the Light Side end up leaving the Order. It quite simply doesn't stand for their newfound belief, or even worse starts to disgust them. It'd be like an atheist being a supportive member of the Christian church, or a pacifist voluntarily serving in the military. Those are my two credits, anyways - I don't think the discussion has a chance of cultivating much consensus, as our interpretations seem to operate on different core tenets.
