Personal Information

  • Location
A galaxy far, far away according to the voices in my head...
  • Interests
Collecting gold. This 'good and evil' thing still has me confused though.
  • Occupation
I'm um, a fighter. I fight evil. At least that's what my friends tell me we're doing.
  1. After looking back at all of the stuff that the devs have broken over the years, and bugs in new content, I seriously think that they are intentionally trying to piss off the players so they can kill the game for good and do something new. Nice work. Actually serious though, I got smacked, switched instances, and found that the Ancient Threat had not been spawned on the PVP instance; but as soon as I got close, it spawned, summoned, lagged and destroyed me - in about 3 seconds. I thought that the mob was supposed to be summoned as part of a mission, but all I did was get close to its spawn point.
  2. The official policy still seems to be, "Bugger Off, this isn't a class quest so although it used to be unavailable until you got the Taris bonus series, and we broke it so that you can do it before you get the bonus series, we don't fix bugs anymore unless they are in class quests."
  3. My Trooper chapter 3 completion got erased, and because of that he no longer qualifies to do the missions on Ilum.
  4. i feel that there are other business model options that are not being explored. I hate the whole idea that you have to pay for extras in a game you already pay to play. For free to play accounts my mind is still not made up; but it looks like in the case of SWTOR, free to play is so restrictive that it is less painful to pay for the unlocks you want.
  5. I personally believe that one of the biggest challenges that the designers and devs face is that the game was (by all available evidence) designed as a PVE, story based experience. PVP seems to have been thrown in as a bonus. The trouble is that PVE and PVP are entirely different animals that are hard to reconcile. So, kudos for not always bending over backwards to please the very vocal PVP lobby. On a different note, I am constantly amazed at how many new features and fixes are introduced with apparently little or no actual testing. For example, the preview feature was working fine, then several changes were made to enhance it. I must say that I like the enhancements, but after that change, preview on companions had several major bugs that could have easily been caught by 30 seconds of testing. Also, examining other players stopped working. I see the other player's image, but my own gear. The companion preview issues still aren't even listed on the known issues list. Details, you ask? Okay. Lets look at sith inquisitor as a random example. Preview an item, and I see Khem's feet. His whole body is there, just not centered. In the name box, I see my current companion's name, Andronikos Revel. So, I use the right arrow button to go to Talos. He displays properly! yay! So I use the left arrow to go back to Andronikos. The name box still says Talos, but the window display is centered on a pair of naked human feet. The rest of the companion is invisible. Left button again - no change. So, right button it is. Ashara's name appears, and she displays correctly. Right button again, and Xalek appears correctly. Is it working? Right button and it's 2VR8. Right button should go to Khem, but the window goes blank, with 2VR8's name. Wait a few seconds, and Khem's body appears with 2VR8's name. Right button again, and no change. And so it goes. Left button goes back to Xalek, Ashara, Talos, Naked feet with Talos' name, naked feet, naked feet, etc. Other issues I have discovered only after they have been reported as fixed in release notes. I used to submit bug reports, but the last few have yielded a cloying message apologizing that the bug affected me, and stating that I will not see any further updates to my ticket. A reply to a bug report about a broken final conversation told me that 'we currently only offer support for class quests'. If I report a bug with a work-around I used, the issue is marked as resolved via email. And the issues vansh into the haze of what must be an overwhelming stack of issues that the devs face. What happened to the days when I would get a live agent contacting me in game to actually gather more information? I don't need apologies. I reported those issues in the hope that at some point they may be fixed, and improve the experience for all players. I will offer my own apology for the rant. Overall, I would not be playing the game if I did not like it. I really feel your pain on a daily basis. I am a developer in customer support with another (non gaming) company.
  6. What really 'bugs' me is when a feature is updated (such as the item preview), and released to the public with so many problems that it is obvious that it was not properly tested. Here you go, now you can preview items in a new way, only if you want to preview the item on a companion GOOD LUCK =D!! LOL, the devs hate you
  7. It is abundantly obvious from the experience of many that 20% is as much a lie as peace.
  8. Are you suggesting that perhaps the population consolidation may decrease the population further? FYI there are plenty of free MMO's out there too.
  9. Like I said, the discussion of options can go on forever. There are mny things that could have been done instead of the "volunteer now, or be forced later" approach. I can provide an example of another MMORPG solution that worked extremely well with much more flexibility: Server consolidation was announced well in advance. Everyone knew which servers were going to merge. Then, players were allowed free transfers to any other server - with a catch. They had to request a transfer, which had to be approved, so the population was still controlled. It just took a little longer to transfer. Overall the number of people requesting transfers turned out to be small, so numbers stayed reasonable. This allowed people who were concerned about issues like character names, or anything else, to investigate and find a server they liked.
  10. I don't think you understand, and I'm sure that after several readings, I don't understand what you are trying to say. I just think that if they wanted to offer free transfers, there could have been greater flexibility. I guess they may be worried that too many people would pick the same server if they offered any kind of choice; but, the message they are sending is, "You can either choose to transfer to our choice of server for you now, or be forced to move to our choice of server for you later." I'm sure that the discussion could go on forever about the difficulties involved in an undertaking of this sort, but it really could have been handled in many different ways that would be less objectionable.
  11. No, I'm pretty sure that Bioware has round table discussions about how they can piss off as mmany paying subscribers as possible. "FREE" transfers? Give me a break. You are forced to choose between ... um ... let's see ... OH, A SINGLE APPROVED SERVER or being forced to transfer later
  12. I'm disappointed. Not by the event, etc. I just wanted to see one person say, "Oh yeah! I'm psyched! I have a Mako customization for all eight of my bounty hunters!"
  13. There is so much broken stuff that needs to be fixed already, but I am just playing the game, and enjoying the content. When I unlock the legacy stuff I will figure out how to deal with it too. So my characters are in no way shape or form related to each other (gasps of horror from the devs) ... I don't see that stopping me from using the legacy system.
