  1. If you're going to use a lot of crew skills and crafting, affection is very important. If not, it's something you can put off until you want to unlock the legacy buffs from completing each type of companions full run of conversations which basically requires max affection, and completion of your class story. There are 5 (Right??) different companion types, and for each one you complete the entire conversation arc with you unlock a bonus to all of your characters such as +crit rating, +surge, etc. The types are: Ranged DPS Melee DPS Ranged Tank Melee Tank Healer The bonuses are small, but theres lots of 'small bonuses' that quickly add up in ToR. In the end though, you could completely ignore all of your companions affection if you dont want to craft. The small statistical bonus you receive for doing conversation arcs is not going to gimp you. Its just nice to have. If you want to craft, max affection is your bestest friend.
  2. The above is 'the letter' of the law of this situation. This is the technical reality. At the end of the day, they are different. But they are VERY VERY difficult to tell apart. There are many opinions from different perspectives, which will determine how an individual feels about this scenario. This is not a matter of fact (little on forums is), its a matter of perspective. If you're of a literal perspective, as the quoted above, there is no issue. Different items, different availability, not impeding on 'unique' tag. Nothing to complain about If you're of a realistic point of view, you likely think they're similar enough that it isn't in fact kosher for them to do this. If you're a person who bought the white crystal, a razer product, and pre ordered the CE for all of the 'unobtainable' goodies therein, you likely fully agree with the OP. If you're a Lulwut MMO co#*sucker you probably said something like "WHATEVER DOUCHE ITS A COLOR. GET OVER IT. HOLD ON I HAVE TO REGISTER FOR THE NEXT FOTM MMO AND GO BE A D*#$&EAD ON THEIR FORUMS NOW", and in that case i dont care about your opinion, as I hope you get a kidneystone and pass it through YOUR EYES. I did the exact same thing as the OP regarding the mouse. I prefer other mice to naga because naga are too small for my hands and make my thumb hurt. (Naga Hex LOOKS F*$&@#^ TIGHT but dammit if I didnt just buy a 100 dollar mouse) But i liked the tor swag look and the crystal. I did really want the crystal. I ended up with a non razer mouse. However, had i bought it I would feel just like the OP. Its 'technically a different color', but so are the colors 66CC33 and 66CC00 (hex colors google a hex color chart), but god help me, I cant tell the difference when they're not next to each other. Legally, technically, officially, they did nothing wrong. In reality though, they did. I do agree with the OP. In a rarely seen event on forums, I see both sides of the issue and understand both. I respect the literal side (it is reality afterall) but I simply disagree with it. INTERNET IMPLODING IN 3... 2... LOADING..... PLEASE WAIT
  3. I actually laughed out loud ( I DID LOL FOR ONCE ) at work in a dead silent room and people looked at me funny. Then I imagined the scenario again and laughed once more.
  4. Remember, everything you read on the internet is true 100% of the time with no exception. Fact.
  5. I haven't played in 1.2 yet, dont know what smugglers do in combat, what they eat, or how they reproduce, all I know is this patch breaks every aspect of the game and it is an intentional, personal, direct attack on this portion of the community. That I'm 100% sure of.
  6. Answer: You don't. Because Marauder/Sentinel is the current flavor of the month and FOTM is never wrong. Ever, under any circumstances. Just ask the scoundrels/operatives. Or the Sorcerors/Sages. Or the Mercenaries/Commandos. ....wait a minute....
  7. The answer is of course: "Not Nearly Enough"
  8. I just wanted to say that you're right about him being wrong about AIM, but you're also correct that he's incorrect about the first guy being wrong. That is all. Edited for awesomeness
  9. The alternative to 'lets make the players do stuff they dont like' would be 'lets remove any challenge, cost, or time required to level crew skills' I have a feeling if you got your way, we'd be seeing far more threads saying "I maxxed out my crew skill but there are hundreds of everything for sale and it cost me more to level the crew skill than to buy the products directly. What is the point of crew skills.' Also keep in mind that in another 3 months, all of these people with 1-2 chars with max crew skills, will have 3-5 chars with max crew skills. Sorry I just disagree with 'give players more' in a game that is borderline 'challenging' and closer to 'mindless' than say WoW or LOTRO. Just sayin, be careful what you wish for. More, bigger, faster, easier, is not always better.
  10. This design is pretty much intentional. You'll quickly notice, among almost all crew skills, each tier has one 'largely used' and 'less commonly found' material. It's your bottleneck material. The one you need the most and have the least of. Having the missions provide you with whatever you wanted all of the time would release this seemingly intentional bottleneck, so I doubt we'll see it changed any time soon. Sorry for the bad news but it's not as bad as it seems.
  11. A 'full set' which fills all of your armor slots spans around 8 levels. An example would be say, the Defense Power Armor set. Theres belts boots legs helm chest gloves and bracer. But each item ranges between level 33 and 41 (numbers not entirely accurate). There is no case where you will find a full set of crafted armor all with the same level until you reach max. In which case it's a full set of level 49 armor.
  12. Whoa whoa WHOA... Do you mean to tell me there is... COMPLAINING GOING ON... ON THE INTERNET OF ALL PLACES?!?! WHAAAAT?! This issue is blown way out of proportion. Make a topic about a class not having <blank> when other classes have <blank> and even if 1% of the ~2million players lose their minds that's still 20,000 lunatics ranting and raving about how useless and unplayable the class is. Commando's don't have stealth either "WHATS UP WITH THAT BIOWARE?! I MIGHT AS WELL JUST ROLL A SHADOW." 2 weeks later "D00D SHADOW CC SUCKS AND I HAVE NOTHING BEYOND 15m RANGE! THIS CLASS IS SO BROKEN. I'M ROLLING GUNSLINGER" and so on and so on. /yawn /thread /internet
  13. I have a 43 vanguard and 50 trooper. Vanguard shield spec, commando gunnery I've *never* seen my ammo cells change color on my commando because I use Armor Piercing cell which has no real 'proc' effect. However, when i rolled my vanguard, I noticed it would change blue randomly when using ion cell. I don't know what it indicated, it's either when you're shielded (dunno about that) or when ion cell goes off, but, yeah, hard to tell. I'm just posting to confirm that on my 50 commando with armor piercing cell i've NEVER seen it turn purple or green or anything. My cells stay yellow/orange (whatever you want to call the default color) 100% of the time.
  14. Theyre supposedly adding a legacy reward of a short duration sprint, which they described as "Jetpacks for bounty hunters, rocket boots for everyone else". They could just give us a similar animation to BH but with flames/energy bursts out of our feet. or even if its just like a 'boost' from the boots, just ffs walking on air is NOT COOL at all. And the time delay slow down to allow us to go through the exact same animation but in a shorter distance another poster mentioned is awful. Slooooo moooooo puuunnncccchhhh...!!!! Troopers really do feel like the red headed donkey step child of bounty hunters when it comes to balance and animations.. but... Bounty hunter gear versions look like someone strapped a junkyard to a mannequinn and said "OK... THAT IS WORKS. YOU LOOK THE AWESOME. NOW GETS OUT OF HERE". I dont know why but the person saying that has a a russian accent or something. Anyways, BH > Trooper, but.. Trooper gear > BH Gear BH get a F*#&$^& Jawa tho. GRRR!
  15. I have one of the level 50 dropped recipe helms which I RE'd into a redoubt purple, i sell and make them often, but ive only sold/made about 10 since i got it, and none of them have crit, because the first time one does I'm setting it aside for my tank alt. But yeah, 0 crits on them so far. However.. I did BUY a DPS one off the GTN that was the same type of item (level 50 recipe RE'd into a "Critical" purple) and it did have an augment. It was also DIRT CHEAP (30k for a level 50 augment purple helm? *** MENG) It's possible but like everything else in crafting here in tor its random ><
