  1. The More I read about what SWG was like, the more it sounds like Second Life in a SW Skin and some badly designed combat....
  2. PCs get a babel fish, It's what happens just before the opening cinematic.
  3. Well that's not a fair assessment, Luke's love for his father redeemed him, and Revans love for bastila redeemed her. Love is NOT forbidden, attachment is dangerous when you haven't prepaired yourself to lose said attachment. The Order discourages love, and the reason padawans get in trouble (and the reason you can possibly get dark side points in the game) is because they often aren't mature enought (anakin) to handle it with out losing it if something bad happens to said attachment. Luke was married to Mara Jade and she died and he didn't fall because he understands the last and arguably most important part of the Jedi code "There is no Death, Only the force" Even in SWTOR you only get dark points for flirting as a Jedi if you put those things above the greater good (for instance on Tython with the Matriarch). Or if you Lie about it and hide it from the councel (like the two padawans in love on Tython).
  4. Might be part of it, I'm convinced it's mostly because red and black look cool (the over all imperial asthetic is more in sync with pop culture at the moment) and also it's "cool" to be the bad guy. Which is why it really confuses me when people are constantly trying to say the empire isn't evil.
  5. QFT I also want to add that this whole good and evil is a matter of perspective thing is such a cop out answer. To a certain degree it is a matter of perspective yes, but there are some things the Sith do that tend to be inherently thought of as evil no matter what perspective you have. Murder, enslavement, torcher, just to name a few. The sith would consider these acts they commit as necessary evils, and maybe they feel they are commiting them for a good cause (even though they usually aren't the selfish pursuit of power is not a good reason to bully, kill and enslave others), they would still never claim these are "good acts"(or maybe they would, on a whole the sith a rather delusional, and each one has inferiority/god complexes). These evil acts are also so widely spread throughout the sith empire (esp slavery) that these acts have become cultural norms. This does not make these acts any less evil, just because everyone else is doing it does not make it right.
  6. I really don't get why so many sith players feel they need to somehow bend the Sith into something they arent. The Sith are not happy nice good people. They are evil. They DO NOT use the "pleasnt side" of passion to fuel the Dark Side, it doesn't work that way. Only Negative emotions (hatred, fear, anger) power the dark side. Love does not. Love and compassion are frowned upon in the Sith. They are trained to be selfish, uncaring and cruel from the onset of their training. The Sith tend to loose their battles against the Jedi because it is inevitable that they will eventually turn on one another in some power play and completely mess every thing up. They are not nice people and they certainltly do NOT love. While the Jedi may not EMBRACE their emotions, they don't deny them. They feel like every one else in the galaxy, but a good Jedi learns to control his emotions rather than allow their emotions to control them. Pleny of Jedi love, Plenty of Jedi have children and attachments, but only once they have learned to be able to let go of those attachments when they need to. This whole Jedi deny all emotion is far from the truth, they just try and not let their emotion get in the way of reason. TLDR: Sith are Evil, and you need to accept that and move on, even if your personal sith character isn't evil the majority of those you live and work with are... deal with it.
  7. No, he took the title when he killed his former master like all rule of two sith did.
  8. Loved both Kotors, Force Unleashed was fun in a mindless sort of way. Back in the day I loved the TIE fighter games. Also the Dark Force series (esp. Jedi Knight and Jedi Knight 2)
  9. I can understand that, it's all about suspension of Disbelief and how much you are really willing to suspend. Take Samurai Jack for instance. It had the same over the top action seqences you see in Clone Wars, and the series was semi-serious, but did have alot of comedy and it wasn't afraid to poke fun at it self. Tartakovsky's style harkens alot back to those old over the top action japanese films where when you cut someones head off fountains of blood sprays out. (tartakovsky is probably a big taratino fan as well) That's just the kind of thing he animates, and really in most cases you either like that style or you don't. I can understand why you wouldnt enjoy it as much in a Star Wars setting, but personally I still thought it was fun for what it was, but I like those over the top japanese films like Ricky O or taratino's Kill Bill. It's all a matter of preference. Story wise the old Clone Wars was crap, but visually i feel it was awesome (kinda like the Force unleashed games... the story was kinda wierd, but aside from the repetativeness and a couple of bugs it was hella fun to grab a star destroyer with the force, which is something I would never expect to happen in a movie or book.)
  10. I have not seen the new clonewars series... if it ever comes to netflix streaming i may give it a watch. I loved the original animated one, however, not so much because of the story elements (as people have said they are few and far between in those old shorts), but because of animation itself. For those who don't know the original Clone Wars animated shorts was directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, the director or several great old animated shows including, Dexter's Lab, The Powerpuff Girls, and Samurai Jack. Tartakovsky as a director is mainly known for his visual style, and his action sequences. I belive when they had the original Clone Wars Cartoon series in mind, what they wanted was the action sequences; story was kind of an after thought as the true story was to be told in the movies. These 10-15 min shorts were really just to hold people over/get people excited about the upcoming films. So really if you are going to enjoy the original Clone Wars you need to enjoy it for what it is, a visual feast. If you want to watch it for it's story telling and character development you will be rather disappointed. Personally I studied animation in college and Teach art now, so I enjoy the original Clone Wars more as an art form for the quality traditional animation sequences than I do as a story telling device. The new Clone Wars series is obviously more focused on the story telling, which makes the series very different from the first, plus each episode is a full thirty minutes where as the first series was just 5-15 min shorts. Someone earlier said the windu thing was kinda like a Jedi Mt. Dew commercial more than a real story, and in alot of ways that is true, the purpose of the original clone wars was to sell the new movies to people, the whole thing was just a big advertising campaign with fan service jedi butt kicking. IF you take it for what it is and enjoy the quality animation that is Tartakovsky I think you will enjoy the original series alot more. As for the "Characters are OP" in the original Clone Wars, watch an episode of Samurai Jack or the Powerpuff Girls and you will see that is really just a Tartakovsky thing.
  11. I said this is the other "Fix the prequals" thread and I'll say it again. The biggest thing that needed to be changed was the age of Anakin when we meet him as a slave on tatooine. He should ahve been older, about 14-16, the same age as Padme. This fixes several of the films problems. 1. It makes his relationship with Padme far more beliveable. 9 year old boys tend not to hit on older girls and call them "angels" when they first meet them. A teenager who fancies himself a ladies man is far more likely to do so. 2. It gives the councels initial ruling that Anakin is too old to train more weight because it would actually be rather easy to teach an 8-9 yr old a new way of life and a new way of thought seeing as they are still very much developing into the person they will become and not already that person, where as a 14-16 yr old is much harder (not impossible) but much harder to change. 3. It creates a more akward teacher student dynamic between obi-wan and Anakin when they are that much closer in age. Anakin would probably see Obi-Wan more like an Older Brother rather than a Father Figure, and how well to most younger brothers listen to their older brothers? Would help expain why Obi-Wan failed as a teacher. 4. From a film stand point we could have had the same actor play anakin in all 3 films, which allows the audience to better identify with the character. The other thing I would have done (and this kind of ties into him being older as well) is I would have had Anakin's personality closer to the personality Han Solo had in the original trilogy. He would have been cynical, overconfident, brash, and flirtatous/charming (making Padme's attraction to him more obvious). He would have NOT been the typical stoic Jedi. Unlike Han Solo, who becomes more of a good guy as the story progresses, Anakin would have followed a darker path.
  12. I agree, Anakin should have filled the role Han solo did in the Original Trilogy, Morally ambiguous and possibly even his cynical attitude, the prequals were sorely missing a character like that. Anakin could have filled that roll easily, only unlike Han who moves towards the side of good as he progresses through the story, Anakin would spiral more towards the dark side of things.
  13. I have always thought that most of the prequals problems could have been solved if anakin was older when he was found. He should have been about the same age as padme as a slave on tatooine, it makes so many of the things he does in the first movie more viable (esp. him hitting on padme, 8 yr olds dont do that), and it makes the council saying he is too old to train have more weight, an 8 yr old can still be taught new ideas and ways of life pretty easily actually, its much harder with a 13-14 year old. It also would have made the master/student dynamic between obi wan and anakin that much more akward with them being closer in age.
  14. This is probably a healthy way to look at it, but only if you are willing to accept that others might not agree with your own personal "canon", and you also have to be willing to accept that your own personal canon is not in any way "official," and there for really shouldn't be treated as such.
