Here's some ideas :
1) Crew skills should give some experience (experience who benefits from rest bonus). So people who don't wanna bash mobs or pvp all times can work this path.
2) there's should be some long and hard to craft items that have the same value of high pvp/pve which would recquired a good amount of time to get all materials (the same amount of time). So people can have new opportunity to get stuff. Or at least some stuffs.
3) More craftbale stuff that are not direct equipment will bring more attractiveness to market : option for space ship, colors, inside furnitures etc... Maybe new equipment colors too, or tatoo on stuff, or metal looks etc.
