  1. I'm assuming reading comprehension was a skill you didn't get taught. The op's topic was about the video in general. Hence the title. The biggest complaint about the video, in this thread, seems to be hair clipping. So explain to me how I haven't talked about anything remotely connected to this thread? Oh wait, I get it, you wanted it to be nothing but a "oh noes hair is clipping" hippie hand holding thread. The video showed the Pew Pew of the new customization options. How they would look while doing the story and Pew pewing things. I'm sorry you would rather they handed everyone a Barbie to play with.
  2. People really care about hair clipping? Maybe that is what the issue with this game is. Too many people caring about the most menial stuff. Didn't even notice hair clipping. Then again I play games for the actions or story not to play Barbie hairstylist.
  3. Really? You wanna go that way? It's a reward? You do realize it's becoming standard in the industry to offer that type of protection, for free, to your customers. You also realize it cost more for them to manufacture the physical keys, then they even come close to paying on the bandwidth of the app. The app uses less then 5kb of data to work. Also I laugh at the people who think the physical key cost is to cover shipping. You do realize it doesn't cost 4.99 to ship anything anymore, unless you are stupid. Also, it isn't a reward. They offered the app, for free, for awhile. They realized that a lot of people were using it, so they changed it to try and force people to sub to the game.
  4. Small correction here. Bioware doesn't let you use the free app unless you SUBSCRIBE to the game. That is charging for account security.
  5. Really? Such a strong counter point that you have to resort to name calling and trying to do personal attacks? Should of guessed it would boil down to as much. If you can't see the difference between the value of a F2P game, and the wasting of 30+ dollars for less then 2 hours of entertainment. Then you have issues. On a side not. Le Miz was good. Not worth 30$, but was good. IM3 will be good also. Not worth the 30$ but will still be good. I'll let my wife know of your concern though. I'm sure after the last 15 years she needs the reassurance of internet people lol. Yes things are gated behind a time lock out. That is the trade off as I explained. Those with ample time can choose to spend no money. Those with less time can choose to spend money to lower the time required. I don't find that bad or misleading to people. Though all MMOs have been this way. MMO's of old added extremely long leveling times, corpse runs, full body looting. All of these things were designed with the key concept of keeping players playing more and paying their sub more. The package is the same. The wrapper is the only difference really. It's just easier to accept the sub because that was what happened first. If games were F2P first, the conversation would probably be about how companies are greedy because they want players to pay them money every month, even if the player might not play all that much. I seem to have hit a nerve and I'm sorry if you felt offended. I was just pointing out that everything could be re earned in the game. The choice boiled down to time vs money. You have the choice to speed up the process of migration by paying money. I have 35 wow toons on 3 servers right now. Most of them are in the 60's to 80 range. Some I haven't played in well over 2 years. I made the choice to only ever transfer my main. Everything else could be redone, including crafters, again on the new server. It just wasn't cost effect for me to pay to move them. On the otherhand I know a guy in my guild who has probably spent 300+ dollars on just transfers this year alone. He makes a lot of money and moves his characters at will. To each their own.
  6. That is a mute point. All MMOs are time sinks. Every MMO, regardless of 15$ a month or not, is designed with the concept of keep the playing playing. This isn't a feature that only F2P games have. They learned it from the 15$ sub games. They just fine tuned it. This is why MMO's have raid lock outs, dungeon lock outs, gear drop caps, PvP point caps. The whole point is to keep you playing longer, to get you to pay for more months of the game. If anything F2P games have helped solve this. You are now given the choice of either or or. In a 15$ sub game you have no choice. You pay your 15$. Do your weekly, dailies, or what not, and continue to fill the extra time with whatever. In a F2P game you get the choice to either speed up the process if you want, or to deal with the time sinks for FREE. Well yes and no. You don't have to go with them. You certainly don't have to take all of your characters with you.
  7. Why would it be times 80 characters? You only need 22 at max, and even that is pushing it. Let alone needing to server or faction change them all. That would just be excessive lol. Mainly since it would be damn near impossible to gear enough characters to justify needing to move them. I ran 3 toons in a HM guild and it always took most of the expac to get all 3 geared. Let alone more then that. Now I do think the price was a little excessive to start, 25 for a server and 35 for a faction change is steep money, but it's that way for a reason. One to keep people from jumping ship constantly, but also to offer a way out if someone was truly so attached to a character. Please tell me you're kidding. They "prey" on people? Really? It's not preying on you to offer you the choice of buying something or not. That isn't preying. What is wrong with this? Impatient people have always paid money. How do you think the whole fast food industry got started? That doesn't make it bad. People have the ability to make their own choices. Either spend time or spend money. Some people have lots of time and little money. Others have lots of money and very little time. It only seems logical to offer choices to both sides. Those willing to wait, and it is the majority, are able to enjoy something of great value for little to no money. Those, I know a few very well off people who don't have a lot of time, so they buy the things they want/need with money. Why is that wrong? Actually I don't just "throw it to the wind" over it giving a game I like a bad score. I very rarely pay attention to the "score" of games. I've played to many games that "I" found enjoyable that mainstream didn't. That doesn't change the fact that GI can and is bought regularly for game ratings. Gamestop also encourages the "extra" selling of games from companies who have paid them to spend worker hours to push. They aren't unbiased at all. They can, and regularly, are bought. This is personally experience. As for the 'free to play games are scamming me blindly" that is just blatantly false. I'm an adult. As such I'm more then capable to determining what the value of my time and money is. I never get "scammed" by a game. I do however willing support some game companies or buy the things I enjoy with my money. The only thing that has scammed me recently is my wife. She constantly wants to spend the 10$ a ticket and 20$ for popcorn and a drink at the theater. Now that is a scam.
  8. See this isn't a rip off to me either. I paid the 65$ to transfer, and faction change, my main about 3 times in the life of my WoW. Was it a rip off? Nope. I had well over 300kgold, top tier raiding gear, and didn't feel like wasting the months it would take to get back to that level each time I wanted to transfer. This is TBC, WOTLK, time though. Were money wasn't falling off tress like Cata and Panda lol. Took a long time to earn 200k+ gold in TBC.
  9. Sorry but GI is stupid. Their writers are worse then IGN writers. Wanna talk about being able to "buy" game scores look no further then GI. As for the point at hand. They aren't a rip off at all. Take Riot for example. You can play the game forever, even in ranked, with no money spent on the game ever. How is that a rip off? Is it a rip off to charge 10$ for a skin? No. The skins have NO IMPACT on the game. Yet people spend hundreds of dollars a year on them. Why? Cause unique is something people have been willing to pay for since the dawn of merchants. It's only a "rip off" if the customer doesn't value it. As for Zynga, they only sell time. Some people are willing to wait for energy bars, others not so much. How is it a rip off to sell them short cuts for time? If the customer values that short cut enough to spend money, then it's not a rip off. A rip off, is the act of selling something for more money then it's worth. A rip off is charging a million dollars for a pinto. Lotro is an awesome F2P model. You have three choices in that game. Sub to it, buy turbine points, or earn the turbine points in game. The points are very easy to earn just by playing and farming deeds. Stuff you would do anyways as a sub. So again, how is that a Rip off? They are letting a large portion of the world play a game, spend no money, and the only hurdle is they expect you to spend time in their game. STO is a little more grey area. They started out much like Lotro. Though since PWE has gotten a hold of them, it's become more of a shake you for your money. Still though, they offer you the ability to PLAY and earn their currency. Very easily I might add. So then it becomes a debate of time vs money. The real rip off is customers thinking that 15$ a month is a valid amount of money for quality entertainment that far exceeds those cost. When MMO's first happened it was a steal, for both the customer and the devs, because the cost of operation weren't nearly as high as they are now. It required a lot less bandwidth, man hours, and other misc cost to run the EQ, Ultima, Shadowbanes of the world. Now 10 times as many people play the games, suck up resources, yet expect the cost to stay the same. It's not a win for the devs anymore. As I pointed out there is a middle ground. Companies like Riot have found it. Offer a quality game, for free, and sell unique. It doesn't impact the players at all who don't wish to spend money, and allows the "whales" to spend much more then the average person would anyways.
  10. If they were smart they would. No matter how you slice it, non sub based games, short of WoW which is the exception, make more money then sub based games. Zynga, Riot, and others have shown this time and time again. If you give people a quality game, and the CHOICE to buy extra stuff to look cool or be more unique, they will spend money. Most of them will spend well over 15$ a month on average. Take LoL for example. I've spent probably 500$ on that game for skins and the like in about a year. In my 6 years of WoW I've barely spent that much, not including expansions. If they were smart, and wanted to make good money on the long run (not the EA version of quick money), they would drastically improve the F2P/Premium model and start going to town on reasonably priced cosmetic items. There's a reason games like LOTRO and STO saw their player numbers triple or quadruple when going to their F2P models. Lotro especially. They offer the game, the content, and everything can be earned in game with enough time or effort. There are always two types of F2P players. Those who can't afford the game and won't ever spend a time, and those who will spend money for cosmetics or short cuts if they feel it's worth it. You can't change the first option, you can entice the second group by giving them the clear choice of x amount of time or x amount of money. Most, who can, will spend the money. SWTOR doesn't offer this. Instead they try and "force" or "strong arm" people into subs. Hence why the numbers aren't as good here and they are now having to get more value out of the 15$ a month they are allowing subs to pay. So, IMO, players shouldn't be asking how they can get more value out of 15$ a month, but instead figure out how to make the F2P model a better model and get EA/Bioware more value out of it. Right now it's all or nothing for F2P and most choose nothing. I mean you know it's pretty bad when they CHARGE you for added account security.
  11. Four ways. Subscribe/Level one of a race to 50, buy them with cartel coins, buy them with currency, buy them off the GTN.
  12. Turn off shadows then? If you have shadows off, then nameplates can't create shadows.
  13. What type of pre paid visa? I've used some pre paid cards with no issue but all the ones I use require address information and stuff to activate. A lot of them don't, and most MMO companies reject those cause they can't verify them.
  14. Leave the day and night cycles to RL. They aren't required in a game, and honestly always get turned off by the majority of players. It's always just wasted money.
